NU 412 Health Policy Week 2 Discussion Board student response to Catherine Pereira by Kathryn Moultrie
Good evening Catherine,
I found your post interesting and your involvement in issues affecting your community interesting, especially your involvement in the political stream as a school nurse in your community local school system. My past involvement in the political stream was related to the quality of public education, for all children locally and state-wide, my name was selected for the school committee City of Portland, ME, but did not make it on the ballot that year. A traveling position at a prestigious university medical center (teaching facility), top 10 nationally, No.1 in the state, grabbed my focus.
In that aspect, being a travel
As indicated from the article “Expert Voices” (2015), including the subtitle of what we do to end health disparities is a merit question for everybody to ask and then act and think about it. As a community nurse, my potent goal is to work with people in the community, dig down deeply to find the root of the problems, inform the people and solve it (Alvaro, C., 2014).
Part 1(P1): Explains concepts of equality, diversity and rights in relation to health and social care.
What is (CHIP)? In this paper I will be looking at the history of the CHIP program from legislation to the current state. I will also look at who originally proposed the CHIP program. Was the program under a different name? What year was the CHIP program proposed to Congress? Who was the CHIP program designed to serve, has this changed throughout the course of time? What challenges did Congress face in implementing the CHIP program? What changes/improvements have been made to the CHIP program since implementation?
How might you apply empowerment in your community nursing practice? Reply to two colleagues' posts.
My reason for choosing this particular course was to study and explore the different practices towards improving health and how health effects people worldwide. Also, my expectations from this class is to learn the core concepts of public health and the essential associations between nursing, global health, and the elements

Learning directly from the people who are doing the job and creating the processes that go along with the job is the best way to gain knowledge.
This assignment will investigate the Community Health Profile for Oldham, a metropolitan borough within Greater Manchester. Oldham has a population of around 224,900 (Oldham Council, 2017). At present, there are several prominent health issues in Oldham, according to Public Health England’s Health Profile (2017), such as: levels of obesity in Year 6 children; under 18 conceptions and children in low income families. The intention of this assignment is to gather further evidence and talk in more detail about one specific health issue in Oldham, and how nurses can promote and improve the health of young individuals in this area.
In January 10, 2018 I attended a committee meeting from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm at Mashburn Hall (306 HOB). The political experience was intimidating and empowering. I was frightened of being surrounded by representatives, organizations and community leaders in the health care sector, but at the same respectful and grateful. Consequently, I acquire knowledge in specific healthcare policy topics such as, the existence of the Health Quality Subcommittee, its responsibilities/goals and the nursing role in policy.
My career commitment as a nurse has grown tremendously over the past three years; through my daily experiences as a Medical Assistant. I have devoted my time as a full time student and employee of the health care profession. Both of these occupations have helped shape me into the person I want to be for as long as time allows. Daily I witness these community role models that posses abilities such as problem solving skills, promotion and protection of an individual’s advocacy all tied in with compassion to meet the health care needs of an individual.
This assignment requires that I develop and thoroughly analyze a public policy in order to advocate for one that improves the health of the public and/or the nursing profession globally (local, state, national or international). To do this, I must reflect on several aspects of being a policy maker within the nursing profession. I was instructed to consider the following:
Stretch B. and Whitehouse M. –Health and Social Care Level 3 Book 1 BTEC National. London: Pearson Education Limited, 2010
The National Health Priority Areas (NHPA) initiative seeks to distribute limited resources to target conditions and diseases with significant burden of disease, potential health gains and cost reduction upon interventions.
The theoretical framework that is used in this paper is Collins’s framework, which he describes as a simple tool for policy making (Collins 2005). Collins’s framework is a framework specifically designed for health policies and is an adapted version of Bardach’s policy framework. Bardach proposes eight steps to create a policy; he calls this the ‘eight-fold-path’.
I have always known that I wanted to make a difference in this world, even if it is one person at a time. I have dreamed of becoming a nurse, instead of being just a dream it is now going to become reality. My passion for health is more than a passion it is my lifestyle, a lifestyle I want others to follow. I have started up a small running group within the community to promote a healthy lifestyle. I often donate blood as I know how important it is in the healthcare field. I have worked at the Community Health Center of Branch County for 5 and half years now. I absolutely love my job, I started out as a nursing assistant on the floor, assisting the nursing staff with dressing changes, doing vitals, obtaining different types of specimen
