Our beloved and brave leader Comrade Napoleon has found a large pile of timber, and sold it to Frederick. He has used the large and spectacular brains of his to devise plans to sell the timber for the highest profit possible. He has dedicated hours to drafting proposals with both Frederick and Pilkington, compelling Frederick them to raise the offer for the timber by twelve pounds. Then, the awful and despicable Frederick, manifestly angered by this, offered to pay with a cheque. A cheque is a piece of paper promising to pay a sum of money at a later time. Our intelligent leader, undoubtedly seeing the dangerous plans brewing in his mind, demanded to be paid in five pound notes. Frederick finally agreed, and an agreement was settled. Napoleon

"Don't judge a book by its cover, see a man by his cloth, as there is often a good deal of solid worth and superior skill underneath a [???] jacket and yaller pants.” This phrase goes back to at least the mid-19th century, as seen in the newspaper Piqua Democrat, June 1867. The book Tangerine has many quotes that relate to this proverb, and this essay will furtherly explain it. In the book, a boy named Paul who is legally blind, moves to Florida and feels the cruelty of facing middle school while being an IEP student (Individualized Education Program). The theme: “Don’t judge a book by its cover”, is represented by the symbols of Paul’s glasses and Erik’s hero smile in the book Tangerine.
“I immediately sent a non-commissioned officer and 12 men to protect both the sentry and the king's money, and very soon followed myself to prevent, if possible, all disorder, fearing lest the officer and soldiers, by the
In the fiction novel, “A Separate Peace” by John Knowles, there are plenty of characteristics exposed from the setting about the character Finny. How the setting of the novel helps reveal the character Finny is by the way he reacts towards his education, sports, and friends. He and a friend, Gene, go back fifth-teen years as if they were still at Devon High School, which is a boarding school for boys only.
"Character is what you are in the dark." is a quotation from "The Most Dangerous Game." This quotation means that when people don't see you, you are the real you. If no one is there to reward or punish you, you will act how you want. In "The Most Dangerous Game" when Rainford is alone on the island he tries to think of a way to escape General Zaroff. He makes intelligent actions and it is only when he thinks he has no other choice when he kills Zaroff.
The way Father Flynn is around people shows his innocence. He has a positive impact on the school to everyone except Sister Aloysius. Father Flynn creates the message, not guilty by his relationships. Many people find him likable. Teachers trust him and go to him for help. David Mueller is a black student at St. Nicholas, whom does not feel like he belongs. However, David Mueller finds a father figure in Father Flynn and looks at him as a role model. David Mueller’s mom also had great respect for Father Flynn because he included David Mueller and made him feel appreciated at St. Nicholas. “You know, Father Flynn, Father Flynn. He looks up to him. The man gives him his time, which is what the boy needs. He needs that” (Stanley 44). Also, the mother did not hear about David Mueller getting bullied when he came home from
Smith Hall is one of the Alabama’s treasures here at the Capstone with a huge amount of history behind it. This building has seen more than you could imagine, considering it is over one hundred years old. Smith Hall is home to the Alabama Museum of Natural History. The museum’s mission statement, “To advance the knowledge of natural sciences for the people of Alabama through exhibitions, collections and quality programs of teaching, research, and service,” shows their active pursuit to continue striving to teach the students of today about Alabama’s natural history where most of the research displayed in the exhibits is largely thanks to Dr. Allen Eugene Smith, the namesake of the museum. It was on May 5, 1910, when the building was formally

Many women weren’t showed respect from men for the color of their skin or their gender, so it took courage for women like Mary Jackson to stand up for themselves or their work. In the book Hidden Figures, it states, “ Something didn’t seem right to the manager who assigned the work. He insisted that Mary’s calculations were wrong. Mary Jackson respectfully stood by her work. Mary and the division chief reviewed the number and finally discovered that the problem wasn’t with her output it was with his input: he had given her the wrong numbers to use!...But having the independence of mind and strength of personality to defend your work in front of the most powerful aeronautical minds in the world-that’s what got you noticed.”(Shetterly 91-92).
“Bartleby is blind but he sees. The lawyer has eyesight but he is blind. Unlike Bartleby, he does not know where he is. He is in prison without knowing it. He has learned nothing. He has gained no insight into himself or into his society, and he has gained no understanding of Bartleby’s rebellion. He has denied his own capacity to love. What remains is only the sentimentality that emerges in his final words of pity and self-pity. “Ah Bartleby! Ah Humanity!” (Melville, p. 45) (Shulman, p. 22)
“Most of this I 've told before, or at least hinted at, but what I have never told is the full truth. How I cracked. How at work one morning, standing on the pig line, I felt something break open in my chest. I don 't know what it was. I 'll never know. But it was real, I know that much, it was a physical rapture--a cracking-leaking-popping feeling. I remember dropping my water gun. Quickly, almost without thought, I took off my apron and walked out of the plant and drove home. It was midmorning, I remember, and the house was empty. Down in my chest there was still that leaking sensation, something very warm and precious spilling out, and I was covered with blood and hog-stink, and for a long while I just concentrated on holding
Furthermore, another character that proves that Victor Hugo is trying to say that human nature is basically good is Javert. On page 336 it states, “Javert felt that something horrible was penetrating his soul, admiration for a convict. Repose first for a galley slave can that be possible? He shuddered at it yet could not shake it off… Javert bent his head and looked. All was black. He could distinguish nothing. He heard a frothing sound; but he did not see the river…”. This quote by Victor Hugo emphasizes on this unusual emotion of goodness arousing within Javert. It’s revealing a transformation of Javert’s character from a hardened law worshipper directly to someone feeling for a convict. Javert is seen gaining his conscious and eventually
Imagine losing a job you have had for 20 years all because of a ninth grade student who was creating a disturbance in your class and told a bunch of lies. In the book, Nothing but the Truth, Philip Malloy is a ninth grade student at Harrison High School. During morning announcements the national anthem is played and Philip hummed along with it even though they are supposed to stand in a respectful silence. After he did it the second and third times he was sent to the office by his homeroom teacher, Miss Narwin, and suspended for causing a disturbance. When he told reporters what happened the word got out quickly. In the end miss Narwin got fired in an attempt to save the school budget and Philip moved to a new school. Philip Malloy is to blame
If Phillip Malloy had sued the schools the school would have won. There were plenty of witnesses telling of what Philip did, and plenty of examples of why Philip was wrong.
This was the most ostensible service to an ascendant mercantile nation such as sixteenth century England, but due to this discourse’s destination, Roger seems over-concerned with enumerating his other services and successes, often to the point of exaggeration. However, these, alongside concerns about payment are a recurring theme in diplomatic reports of the seventeenth century. Rogers, no different, extolled his successes preventing Danes sailing under Spain as it was ‘against the leagues and intercourses’ as well as minor services like freeing English customs-avoiders from captivity.
