I open my eyes, and I stare at my clock and let myself wake up from the drowsiness that feels like it's consuming me. My eyes focus and read the clock, it around 7:00, so I crawl out of bed and slowly get dressed. It’s not a school day, and my muscles relax as soon as I realize that. I drag myself downstairs and feel my body function return as the sleepiness withdraws. I start my day off by logging on to the computer and seeing what’s new on youtube. Then my dad comes into the room I was in and said “Hey bud, we will be going to the ski park today”. I feel a shock as I remember dad saying something about it yesterday. I have mixed feelings about skiing, but I haven’t tried it in a gargantuan amount of time, I could barely remember the last …show more content…
I mentally started to freak out, and i looked for an exit route, there was only one other one besides going down the hill: this hill was connected to the smaller hill. I told my dad I'm going to go to the other hill. He gave me a stern look, and he went down the hill alone. I noticed i might crash if I sled down to the slope shortcut to the other hill, so I took off the base of my skis and left the boot attachments on my boots. One small step at a time, I slowly climbed down the shortcut. It was so irritating and annoying I wondered if this was the best alternative rather than risking it and going down the hill. When I finally got down the hill I thoroughly decided to stick with that one hill. So I kept on enjoying the fast but not fastest speed. Lunch came and I went inside the center and got a bite to eat. Isaac got pizza, and I got some aswell. The pizza didn't taste that good, and I could tell it was very cheaply made, and I questioned why one slice was SO expensive. After we ate lunch and became reorganized, I went back to the hills and went down them a few more times. But then, the accident happened. As I was being hoisted up by the pulley machine everything seemed normal, but when i got to the top of the hill, I noticed I was slipping as I let go of the pulley. I tried to keep my balance, but that only made it worse, the base of my skis interlocked. The head of one ski clasped onto the back of my other ski, twisting my foot backwards in a frightening and unnatural position. The pain was immense and very sharp. I quickly looked at what caused the pain and I saw it. I panicked, and because of the intense pain, I screamed for my dad, who was a couple feet away from me, saw what was wrong, because I usually don't scream in pain like that. In a few seconds, he saw the problem and rush to unlock the base of my skis. He struggles with but eventually unlocks it, and he
Besides soccer, sledding is something my sister and I love to do on snowy afternoons. We have this amazing hill at our house thats super steep and has lots on turns; its the perfect sledding hill. The only problem with it is that at the end of the hill there is a road. My father didn’t want us sledding on the hill until he could put a fence up to keep us from sliding into the middle of the road.
Snowboarding is one of the most enjoyed international pastimes. It presents you with this feeling of freedom and raw power as the cold air hits your face while you carve down the almost vertical mountain face dropping over steep clips and carving trough trees. These are just a few reasons why so many people internationally flock to the mountains to partake in this sport. Snowboarding provides people an escape from there comfort zone by pushing them to take on risks they would never have thought off before.
As my upper body shifted to the right, everything from my waist and below stayed true to the course, including the ski poles. I ran over the handle of my ski pole, with my stomach. The pole was pushed up into my lower abdomen, propelling me off of the slope entirely, I was airborne. I landed on my back, completely out breath, and dazed to the point I had no recollection of where I was. The next moment was particularly scary for me, all I can recall was the ringing of a whistle in my ear, and the red lights flashing from the ski patrols snowmobiles. Unsure of any injuries, the ski patrol had braced my back and neck, strapped me to a board, and began to tow me down the mountain.
Falling over and over onto the dense sleet surface, with snow penetrating what’s left keeping you warm; your initial experience of snowboarding. Similar to other learning experiences, but perhaps not as harsh. Learning is a journey filled with challenges and sometimes failures. What determines the outcome is whether you can persevere and receive the everlasting reward of success. Learning is what you make of it, may it be learning to snowboard or applying it into the classroom setting. It will be an enriching skill you will be able to apply universally.
But i did not know that i was going to fall. On the way down the first hill was fine the second was ok the third not okay. From the speed from the first hill down to the second hill it was a mad rush i flew down half way. The sharp turn I not ready for the hill. I go over the handlebars on the ground this is not grass it is cement. I stand up and say i am ok but then my eyes start to water when i look down at to bloody knees and the skin on my hand starting to peel. My knees sting as i stand up it felt like needles sticking into my knees and small rocks hitting my knees i tell my dad i want to go home not having the courage to get back on the bike.
I now am able to say that I love skiing. My uncle and I buy season passes to Chestnut Mountain every year, and go nearly every weekend of what feels like an incredibly short ski season. Two years after my first day of skiing, my uncle got me into ski racing at Chestnut Mountain. It is an amateur league called Nastar. Nastar consists of a starting gate at the top, many racing gates in the middle that you have to ski around, and a finish line at the end. It is very exhilarating as you ski your fastest and brush the gates with your body as you ski down. You can even earn a small bronze, silver, or gold medal if you get a fast enough time. Overall, I am very proud that I was able to conquer Rookie’s Ridge on day 1, and can safely say that skiing is my favorite thing to do in the
My father drops me off at school on a Saturday morning at 7:00 am with me fully dressed in the brown and turquoise snowsuit my mama had gotten me a few days before. As we pull into the elementary schools parking lot we see a dozen of other kids fully dressed to go on the ski and snowboarding trip like myself. I have never gone skiing before but I'm sure it will be fun, Daddy says that once I learn we can go up to the Bogus ski resort as a family. I say goodbye to my daddy and wish that he would be the one picking me up later that night when we get back but he has to take care of my baby sister Anna since Mama is gone. She won't be gone for long though, because she is coming back home tomorrow or the next day. Whenever the weather is good for
The first time I went snowboarding I was 9 or 10. Me, my mom, my dad, and Lucas drove up to Mars Hill, North Carolina. The place we went was a small resort named Wolf Ridge Ski Resort. Wolf Ridge has 15 trails including one bowl, one black, nine blues, and four greens. The black diamonds are the equivalent to blues in colorado or utah. Since it was my brother and I’s first time we found a rental place the night we got into Mars Hill and rented boots and boards for the very next morning. We were so excited, my brother and I got up super early in our family's hotel room and drove the short 5 min drive up through the mountains. We got there around 7:30 and the lifts started running at 9:00. We had brought skateboard helmets, small jackets almost hoodie
It is one of the best feelings to finally get off a ski lift and be able to move around and warm up again. I was unbelievably sore from the previous day, so it took me awhile to get back into the flow of things going down the mountain. I’ve yet to find anything that gives you as much of a full body workout as snowboarding does, and I was definitely way too out of shape to run for long periods of time. Skiing is a lot easier on your muscles and your body as a whole, but it just didn’t present a challenge to me like snowboarding did, so I refused to trade in my board for a pair of skis. Thankfully, my dad is getting old enough that he made pretty frequent stops that I definitely needed to give my muscles a rest here and there.
It was a chilly Sunday afternoon with blue skies and all the makings for a good day of early season skiing on that fateful November afternoon. The day was winding down, the Broncos had just kicked off, and my friends and I had just leapt off the chairlift to embark on our last run of the day. All was well on the way down, a blur of orange jerseys rushing by as I sped down the mountain making the most of the last run of my day. Upon our final few turns of the afternoon, I found myself in a predicament that would later shape me into the person I am today.
Saying that I was on the snowboarding and had never snowboarded before could be called a “setback”, but that may be an understatement. According to those on the team, it was a “major issue that cannot be resolved”, but for all intents and purposes, I’ll refer to it as a setback.
The skies on my feet were like boulders chained to my feet, and the fear of height gave me anxiety. At first, I could barely even move in the gear, but I quickly adapted and started enjoying the thrill of going down the mountain. Thinking that it was an excellent idea to push my limits, I decided to ski down the mountain and go as fast as I can. The cold wind that hit my face only gave me more adrenaline to go even quicker. It quickly turned into a disaster as I feel and snapped my ligament on my right leg. It was the worst pain I've ever felt even with the cold numbing the pain. I quickly stood up to see my conditions, nothing was wrong until I straighten my leg, I immediately fell and cried until help came. Driven to the hospital in an ambulance as my mother drove behind
Olivia slammed the door to her log cabin in Lake Tahoe, she had seen Brooke in the cabin next to hers. Olivia hated Brooke. Her family had lots of money so she would get everything she wanted. Olivia wanted that necklace she’d always seen Brooke wear since her birthday.
I believe that every person should try snow skiing at least once. Snow skiing is a great activity with so many benefits, plus its really really fun! People of all ages can try it with the youngest person recorded being one year old. For me, skiing is the best sport out there and when I’m skiing it feels like I’m on another planet because everything is white from being covered with snow. Some days there is so much snow you can't even see in front of you. Those are the best days. It's such a great experience and I'll give you the motivators that keep me looking at the mountain peaks in July.
In the summer, I was supposed to go to a girls camp for my church. There were a few requirements we had to pass off before going. One of them was a 3 mile hike and a camping trip. We decided to hit 2 birds with 1 stone. So we set a date to go camping with the girls who were going to camp. There were about 16 girls who decided they would go. We set off on our 1 night trip on April 4th, 2014. It started off normal. A regular trail through the woods. The path started to get thinner and thinner as we walked on it. We then got to a part where we had to go over a log that was partly hanging over a chasm. I peered over the edge to see thousands of sharp rocks and a large pool of rushing water. After 3 girls had gone over the log safely, it was my turn. I slowly put my right leg over the enormous log. I had made sure to steady myself before putting my left leg over. After I had done so, I threw my left leg over and sat on the log. Then I put my right foot on the ground. I thought I was safe, but my left foot 's, shoelace got caught on the rugged wood. I pulled with force, but that was a bad idea. I got it undone, but that force threw me off balance
