Last week we had the wonderful opportunity to celebrate the home going of Mr. Gary Raum. Mr. Raum celebrated with his family as well as a host of grandkids and great attendance from the community he lived and loved.
Gary was one of those unique individuals who, if he saw a project, wanted to see it to the end. Thus the story with this truck. Gary was driving on a road one day and passed this old rusted out truck in the middle of the field. He had seen it time and time again, but never stopped. One day, he did. The rest is history.
Gary spent the next two years refurbishing the truck to it's current glory. He re-did every portion of the truck, researching eBay and other stores to get the antique part. It took some time, but it was
Having had challenging and somewhat turbulent teen years at home with his Father; I was most touched at Gary's meticulous care for his aging and ill Father for several years before he died. His compassion and assiduous attention to his Father over his remaining years was affecting.
Our latest $500 winner is Gary Albus. Gary is the DPS Region 5 commander and has been part of our agency since 1983. When one of his troopers was recently buying a new home he sent him to our office to see if we could be a good value for him and his family. We ended up writing both the troopers home and auto policies and look forward to working with them for years to come. Thank you, Gary!
Just a little time down the road David became interested with anything that had to do with being mechanical. His father Ken bought David endless robots, tape recorders, printers, and even things simple as a remote control.

When reading a book you should be transported into a world that you can both relate to but also learn from. In the Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald you are effectively transported into the early twentieth century. You see many things that people living in 1922 would have to go through as well as things that are still relatable to today. Throughout the novel, Fitzgerald shows you many images to effectively convey and highlight his themes of the innocence and lose of innocence, differences in social classes, and the american dream.
When trying to figure out what really happened with the Howard Johnson motor, the first thing that catches our eye is Johnson’s determination to make the impossible work. The fact that a lot of people didn’t quite believe in his ability, as a scientist, to provide an alternative energy didn’t make him stop his research; it only enabled him to try harder!
The Great Gatsby (2013), directed by Baz Luhrmann, is a contemporary construct of the original novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925. The essence of this film is to portray the “American Dream” as understood in the 1920’s. The film (as well as the novel) contains many themes that correlate to the depiction of the story. The main notable themes that are embodied throughout the motion picture are social class, love, wealth, isolation, and hope. Nick Carraway, whom the film is focalized, communicates the elements of the setting and main characters. He portrays this through his personal experience as an outsider to the wealthy world of the 1920’s, in which this motion picture takes place. Nick Carraway is a young man who is seeking the achievement of the “American Dream”. The three images that are included depict the main themes of the story as well as illustrate considerable meaning through cinematography.
Last night was all a blur. It was definitely one of the most memorable night of my life. Everyone was all done up in expensive and ornate clothing. I felt so plain in my simple party dress. I silently drifted through the crowd choosing to observe the crowd rather than joining in on their festivities. After all, the only way I was able to obtain an invitation was through work. You see, my boss wanted me to write an article on Gatsby’s party. I was refused at first but my boss knows some things about me that I do not under any circumstances want exposed.
On first glance, The Great Gatsby is about a romance between Gatsby and Daisy. The true theme behind this wonderful novel is not merely romance, but is also a very skeptical view of the extinction of the American dream in the prosperous 19s. This loss of the American dream is shown by Fitzgerald's display of this decade as a morally deficient one. He shows its incredible decadence in Gatsby's lavish and ostentatious parties. This materialistic attitude toward life came from the disillusionment of the younger generation of the old Victorian values. Also, with Prohibition in effect, illegal bootlegging practices made for yet another way for Americans to fall down the path of
Dynamic characters are characters which go through substantial changes, typically due to a traumatic or powerful experience. In Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street, by Hugh Wheeler, the character known as Sweeney Todd is arguably a dynamic character; Due in part, heavily, to having his tendencies of being entirely self-motivated and caring nothing for anyone but himself ripped away as he discovers he murdered his wife. Sweeney Todd at the beginning of the play obviously seems to care nothing for anyone except revenge for the supposed murder of his wife. Nearing the end of the play, He still has that same primary concern for revenge no matter what the cost. However, at the very end of the play when he discovers his wife dead, he
The idea of the American Dream is a concept that many people have struggled with against themselves to prove that it not only exits but can ultimately be achieved. Countless generations of people have devoted their lives and work towards this dream. But, what is the American Dream? Can someone actually profoundly feel the fulfillment of what the American dream means and is to be achieved, or are we actually following a manipulated stereotype that was created within our own minds? The American Dream is commonly defined as someone working their way up from a low economic or social level towards prosperity, wealth, or fame. The novel “The Great Gatsby” by Scott Fitzgerald embodies many themes however the novel’s most significant theme relates to the American dream and the corruption it brings. This achievement of reaching the “American Dream” is commonly portrayed by having money, a big house, a car, a happy family, and other upscale possessions. Fitzgerald shows how this dream is full of materialism, and how materialism corrupts the lives of people by ultimately making it hard for them to see reality objectively. The characters Myrtle, Daisy, and most prominently Jay Gatsby have all been corrupted and destroyed by this dream. As a result of being so materialistic Fitzgerald’s characters start idealizing not only their way of life but their feelings, too. In the praised satirical novel, “The Great Gatsby”, Fitzgerald successfully exposes the underside of the unattainable and
F Scott Fitzgerald was one of the most influential authors of the 20th century. Although his last finished work was more than 60 years ago, today they are enjoyed with more enthusiasm and acclaim than they were when they were written. His works are cited as an influence for many other authors. Fitzgerald saw his writing as a reflection of his own life. His works are closely based on his experiences at Princeton, in World War 1 and his love life. Although he was not overly popular at the time of his death, today, he is regarded as one of the best authors of the modern era.
How came people did not respect Fitzgerald’s writing in the twentieth century, but why people are respecting and valuing Fitzgerald work in the twenty-first century? Fitzgerald had a hard time to profiting from his writing, but he was not successful after his first novel. There are three major point of this essay are: the background history of Fitzgerald life, the comparisons between Fitzgerald and the Gatsby from his number one book in America The Great Gatsby, and the Fitzgerald got influences of behind the writing and being a writer. From childhood to adulthood, Fitzgerald faced many good and bad experiences that inspired him to achieve his own American dream in a short amount of time.
