The light streaming through the curtain woke my slumber. I lay in bed enjoying the fluffy white spread that was bunched around me. I was warm and relaxed. I was still trying to come to terms with the decisions I had made over the last twelve hours. I had agreed to be directly involved with dealing drugs, drugs! I left my Sisters do I did have to deal with our cocaine addicted father so I could come help peddle the same crap I thought I left behind me. For godsakes I left my baby sister behind in that mess to fend for herself. I was no better than our father. Trey wasn’t worth all of this. I loved him, he was a great friend but deal drugs for him. It’s a little town located in the cascades of Oregon.”
“It must be such a blessing to grow up in a place such as that?”
“I’m not sure if I would call it a blessing.”
“How do you mean? The city is full of traffic and noise. I would love to visit a place in the mountains.” Emilia looked at her husband as she made her statement.
“It is a beautiful area but there is not much to do, unless you like hiking or being on the lake.”
Eloy and Blair sat in silence as Emilia and I got to know each other. I learned that she came to the states with her mother at a young age and that she met Eloy at the state fair when they were in their early twenties. I enjoyed watching her talk about her history but it also made me sad. I could never again listen to my mother as she shared stories.
“Why did you move to Portland?”
I sighed, “After my mother passed away I needed new scenery.”
“Do you still have family is Sisters?”
“My little sister and father are still there.”
“Well maybe one day you could take me to meet them and see the mountains.”
I helped her clear the table and wash the dishes before Eloy asked me to join him on the porch.
“You like my wife?”
“She is very kind. Thank you for inviting me to
“Huh? No. My dad and I went to Ottawa on a business trip a few years ago. It wasn’t like Antarctica.” He said.
“Ok, I know a great place to go.” She said cheerfully unlike the tone she had earlier. They walked for awhile until they reached a black house with a big window.
"The lake's a magnificent asset and people don't appreciate it, but I have the benefit of looking at it every morning from up the top of the hill where I live and the vista is just magnificent - it's a great place to live."
“We have somewhere to be.” Malessica said. “I’m in the city all the time, you can take pictures any other day.”
“Yes, you should,” she said, continuing to wash the dishes. “I’m so proud of you,
“So where are you taking my daughter-in-law and the kids for vacation this year?” she asked, switching the subject.
“We could try the resort up on the hill first, my dad works there and might have taken Logan with him today.” Alana replied as she ran outside.
“Do you think.. we.. can find somewhere to stay?” Looking outside, it seemed like they were in the middle of nowhere. He didn’t even know what state they were in at this point.
“We’ll have someone check on you, and I don’t see why that beautiful, old house should be anything other than an historical landmark.”
“No.The mainland is better because we have the different states to give us a variety. The islands are nice for a little bit but then they gets old.”
“Stay focused on what I’ve already asked you to find. I need a turn-of-the-century farmhouse that needs some updating, and an old, New England barn with a cupola.”
"I . . . um . . . I'm not sure where we are actually," Aang said sheepishly. "But I do know that we are not that far from Crescent Island."
“I wouldn’t get my hopes up,” Loren laughed, “Dad was trying to get us up to Ireland this summer.”
“For me the experience of living in Cate has been really positive, just because it’s given me the opportunity to meet so many people. Which coming from out of state was a really unique and cool opportunity”.
"well if you're sightseeing by foot there'll be a lot of opportunities to experience something new, we'll get to know more the place and its people just by seeing closely to their routines. This what we'll do when we're having a trip to Mount Ijen, walk on a small path among rice fields and stay overnight at their house." Says
