The light streaming through the curtain woke my slumber. I lay in bed enjoying the fluffy white spread that was bunched around me. I was warm and relaxed. I was still trying to come to terms with the decisions I had made over the last twelve hours. I had agreed to be directly involved with dealing drugs, drugs! I left my Sisters do I did have to deal with our cocaine addicted father so I could come help peddle the same crap I thought I left behind me. “It must be such a blessing to grow up in a place such as that?”
“I’m not sure if I would call it a blessing.”
“How do you mean? The city is full of traffic and noise. I would love to visit a place in the mountains.” Emilia looked at her husband as she made her statement.
“It is a beautiful area but there is not much to do, unless you like hiking or being on the lake.”
Eloy and Blair sat in silence as Emilia and I got to know each other. I learned that she came to the states with her mother at a young age and that she met Eloy at the state fair when they were in their early twenties. I enjoyed watching her talk about her history but it also made me sad. I could never again listen to my mother as she shared stories.
“Why did you move to Portland?”
I sighed, “After my mother passed away I needed new scenery.”
