The true shock came when I brought up the legality of the order. I was told, “I do not care what you do, you cannot do anything to me and nothing you do matters because I am quitting.” My coaches threat only further emphasized that I was in a no-win situation. In varsity tennis, the goal is to win as many matches with the strongest lineup. To establish this, players complete a series of challenge matches, the results of which set a ladder for the season. After preseason challenges, I began the season playing second doubles despite boasting a record qualifying me for the third singles position. Seeking to be proactive, I asked my coach why I was not in the position I achieved. Unexpectedly, she rudely dismissed my approach and the scores that …show more content…
I have always tinkered with things. I fiddled with remote cars and miniature trains. Eventually, I graduated to the big leagues; computers! One day my new laptop evaded my grasp and the charging port broke. Reluctant to pay for the repair and in an attempt to downplay the situation, I convinced my parents it was a simple fix. I researched the problem, ordered the equipment and got to work. I followed the instructions to a “T” and all was going perfectly. I began desoldering the jack, but as I neared the end I couldn’t seem to get it free. Hours of troubleshooting yielded nothing until I decided to give it one last aggressive attempt. This time, I heated the solder enough to free the jack. I felt like I was on top of the world. I soldered the new jack and reassembled the computer. I plugged my new charging cable in and… nothing. My heart sank, What did I do wrong? A resistor, I overheated the motherboard and it popped off. Reluctantly, I took it to a specialist. My mistake cost us 210 dollars. I could sense my mother’s eyes widen as she paid the bill. “It’s a good learning experience” I told …show more content…
I was three years wiser and more mature, carrying the self-confidence that comes with it. This time, knowing what pitfalls to avoid, I repaired my computer with ease and saved 130 dollars. Tinkering has taught me to be resourceful and an effective problem solver, however, convincing my coach was a completely different sport. My experiences in scouting have taught me to be patient, analytical, and calm in the face of adversity. I strive to see the big picture and appreciate other's perspectives. Unfortunately, I was unable to see eye to eye with my coach and get through to her to resolve the issue logically. We were at loggerheads, I concluded that I had to compromise with her and take the initiative to present an offer which would appeal more to her than to me. Throughout the ordeal, I was determined to resolve the dispute without my parents assistance knowing that in the future, whether it be college or work force, I will be making my own decisions. As difficult and frustrating as this was, I feel it was a good dilemma to have gone through as I am a much wiser, more confident and mature person because of
William Fong borrowed Phillip Chang's IBM laptop computer to finish a major report he had for geography. On the way to return it to his friend, he accidentally dropped it on the pavement causing $1000 in damages. William agreed to pay him for the repairs. Two months have gone by and Phillip still has not received the money to repair it.
As I first joined the Prince George’s Tennis and Education Foundation tennis team, I was extremely pleased with the environment. I was met with friendly individuals and warm personalities from my peers and coaches alike. The coaches were exceptionally supportive, and I maintained a healthy, competitive relationship with my peers. Athletically, the PGTEF coaches were devoted to assisting the members of the team in comprehending
Sometime around fall of my freshman year, I decided to join the Marmion lacrosse team, mainly because many of my friends were playing, but also because its exciting nature intrigued me. I did not realize it at the time, but this decision would end up changing my life. Being an athletic person, along with lacrosse being a relatively easy sport to learn, I became a good player on the freshman team. I worked my way up the ranks, from getting minimal playing time at first, then starting a few games in. A little under halfway through the season, the JV coach asked me
Though I haven't worked in the field for more than fifteen years as a full-time tech, I still fixed and repaired items with the knowledge that I acquired from school and side jobs. The passion to work with electronics is still strong with me and this is why I want to return to this career. I feel that the experience I have gained from working on computers and small electronic items will be greatly beneficial to any
Most computer geeks would think to throw away a hard drive that has failed two times, but for some odd reason I keep mine. I guess buying a drive
After joining the girls’ tennis team at Hazleton Area High School, I unexpectedly took over the top position. Despite my individual

This calls into question some basic ideas of property. When you a buy a product, is it really yours? According to many companies, including Apple, John Deere, and Sony, it really isn’t. You’re really just purchasing a “license” to use a product and how you use it is entirely up to the OEM. This question of where and how a consumer should repair a device should not be answered by the OEM.
I started playing tennis when I was about 12, not knowing much about the sport or how it would affect me. However, Tennis taught me how to succeed in everything else. Tennis forces me to accept responsibility for my actions and manage my mistakes. Tennis forces me to cope with pressure and adversity. I am forced to make thousands of crucial decisions in a small amount of time. Through high school varsity, I learned sportsmanship and the meaning of teamwork. Through coaching tennis over the summer, I have learned to advertise my skills and how to communicate better with kids and adults. I have enhanced my discipline, developed a work ethic and learned to compete.
None of the other team coaches knew what had happened and I was determined to keep it that way. After a few divisions I started to notice something was off, I was no longer cheering with my team, I was very quiet, and my head was pounding. I had two divisions left, my weight class and open weight. I was with my coach waiting on deck for the quarter final fight, I told her what had happened the day before we got on the plane and “if I don’t get gold in this division, then I’ll fight in the open division”, to my surprise she didn’t argue with me and force me to sit out the remainder of the
The summer of 2016 was going to be a great summer- so I thought. I used to be a part of the Rams Swim Club for 9 years before I decided that I needed to find a new swim team. Not because the practices were too hard, but because my coach was unsupportive. My coach, who will remain unnamed for her sake, was never willing to be a coach that was supportive of her swimmers. She would sit on her phone our entire practice, and she never once paid attention to us. I had to be a leader through this time in my life. I had to respond to her actions and words in a compassionate way. I had to always keep a positive attitude during the time that she was coaching me. There were many instances where I disagreed with what she said, but I did not want to be
“Oh no, please don’t tell me this is happening. Mom, can I just skip this tournament?” I pleaded, “There is absolutely no hope for me.” Being the dramatic person I am, I lamented the imminent end of my tennis career. I went into the tournament with an expectation of failure. I started the match by accidentally whacking the ball over the fence, tripping on my own feet rushing to end the point. The little confidence I had when going into the match dissipated within a few minutes. I continued the match pondering how to angle my racket to put spin on the ball. Every time I failed, I blamed it on the high skill level of my opponent. Unsurprisingly, I lost in an hour. When looking back on that match, I realized that it could have gone differently had I not brought myself down before. My lack of
For this final project I decided to choose the relationship I have with my coach from high school. I remember the first day I met him, I was scared. The fact that he was not really friendly that day was not helpful at all. The first couple of weeks were not satisfactory since I was not talented enough to be playing for the varsity team. Every time I tried to talk to him, he responded by using single phrases, never trying to continue the conversation. After these rough weeks passed by, I started to feel disappointed since I was expecting him to help me improve my tennis game. Since he was the most acclaimed coach around the state, his word of me not being talented enough stroke me. But I did not quit, and one day after losing a match with
As we all know, America is a nation of sports enthusiasts. Most Americans participate is some kind of sporting event, either as a spectator or as a competitor. In the pantheon of great American sports, there is one that stands out. It has been called the great American pastime. Yes, that great sport known as tennis. Tennis requires a mastery of many skills to be able to play competitively, but the primary skill needed to win in tennis is the serve. The serve is the primary offensive weapon used I tennis, because it is the only time when a player gets to put a ball into play. The player controls the speed, the placement, and the spin of the ball. With proper procedure, the serve can win many points and games for the server. The technique
I, of course, immediately began building and assembling the computer. I tried to work slow, making sure I was doing everything as carefully as possible. First I began with the motherboard and cpu. I was sure to make sure the prongs lined up perfectly with motherboard. Then the thermal paste and cpu cooler were a
