Essay 1: Narration Pomacanchi, Peru. You’re probably thinking “is that some strange village in a strange country”? The answer is yes, this village is a place that is very dear to my heart. It is magical, beautiful, strange and scary all at the same time. I have travelled to this remote village twice, to do mission work. Located on top of a mountain in the Andes mountain range, this village is a mixture of Peruvian culture and stray dogs. Therefore, each day in this place is an adventure and with each new day comes new challenges. After travelling 4,000 miles to get here with crazy flight times and long layovers; crazy becomes a normal thing. Riding in taxis through curvy roads that you could potentially fall off of, with taxi drivers that may or may not steal you away therefore crazy is normal. After eating strange Peruvian food that may or may not be a stray dog, you realize crazy is normal.
The morning of the craziest day of my life, was as any other morning would have been in Pomacanchi. Wake up around 8:00 in our alpaca skinned bed, walk outside, smell the smell of what I like to call burnt onions and go to breakfast. Breakfast is the best meal of the day, it is always the strangest hoj-poj of foods, anything from fresh eggs, to instant oatmeal to “fresh” baked bread that never fails to be burnt.
