One day, I was in my house, In my room doing nothing but just playing my Xbox one S until suddenly my mom calls me for dinner I put down my controller headset and began to walk downstairs got my food then looked at the TV. “Hello, Bill Cosby here on Fox 5 news in Atlanta, just in scientist at the Fernbank science center claims that the oldest rock on Earth still buried somewhere submerged in metro-Atlanta and it’s worth a jaw-dropping 4.2 billion dollars!”. By using a variety of symbolism and metaphor, in the story When a Southern town broke a heart, Jacqueline Woodson is attempting to show that our perspective on things that we love change as we get older.
First, the city I live in is Decatur, Illinois. Decatur’s population is estimated around 74,000 people. It is one of the largest cities in Macon County. Founded in 1829, it is located along the Sangamon River in central Illinois. The motto of the town currently is, “We like it here”. The unofficial motto is “The Pride of the Prairie”. Decatur is home to agriculture giants such as Archer Daniels Midland, and Staley’s currently renamed Tate and Lyle. The geography of Decatur includes two mini subdivisions, Mt. Zion and Forsyth.
Almost everyone will go through a breakup. Those who have been through a rough breakup may agree that heartache hurts. Individuals handle breakups in many different ways; some might become depressed, stop eating, or even overeat. In Aaliyah’s “I Don’t Wanna” and FeFe Dobson’s “Can’t Breath”, each artist expresses their emotional response to handling a breakup. Each are fighting to hold on to the relationship and not wanting to believe that the relationship is actually over.
On May 24, 2016, I thought it was just going to be a regular day. I was very wrong. But let’s backtrack some, I was invited to be a part of Girl’s State for the state of Alabama, for my school and Tuscaloosa county. On this particular day there was a meet and greet for all the young ladies that were invited from the area. My mom had pestered and bothered me the entire week about going, but I just had no desire to go. Me not listening to my mother this day has been my biggest regret of my life so far. Hence the title of my essay, you have to win some to lose some.
In recent days I had the opportunity to go back to North Carolina for a few short days. There, with a heavy heart from a loss in the family, I had nothing else to look towards. I’ve always heard of individuals finding peace, faith, blessings, and love of Christ from attending church. I’ve never been a person who put their faith into a higher power. As I was growing up my parents never wanted to force me into any religion without me knowing everything about it and choosing which route to take on my own. As the years treaded on, I never bothered myself to learn about the many different religions and what each stands for. So I used this opportunity as mine to attend church for the very first time. I attended the Roman Catholic services held
This year’s family vacation was one for the books. With my aunt living in Tennessee, we do not get together as often as we would like so my family decided to go to Nashville, Tennessee. When we started our trip, it was 6 a.m. and it was nothing short of fun and laughter along the way. Never having been to Tennessee before, I figured I’d enjoy the eight-hour ride of sight-seeing and laughter with my family. When we were a few miles into the trip, the mountains of Georgia were breathtaking. While I was enjoying the scenery, another thing that I found enjoyable about this trip was the conversation that I had with my family. We went on talking about life in general, all the struggles, and childhood memories that we had. We even talked about years
I had heard endless stories of my family that lived in Tulsa, but my 10-year-old self never would have imagined that I would come face to face with them. Especially not like this. I spent my entire life moving from city to city, state to state, how could my dad even think about settling down now? And in Tulsa of all places? It was moving day and I knew I could not put off meeting them any longer. As the movers scurried around the house, I anxiously waited in the driveway for my family to arrive. That’s when I saw them coming down the road, five black cars, 10 aunts and uncles and 17 cousins that had been figures of my imagination until this very moment. As the car doors swung open, my mind immediately pictured a clown car as I watched the people pour out of the car. Although everything I had heard made them seem crazy, my heart was racing as I felt a sense of excitement rush over me.
I am from Alabama aka AL, but I live in Colorado now. When I was down there I lived in a small town that is called Frisco City, Al that has trees everywhere and there are lakes everywhere too. I loved everything about my hometown, but I had to leave my home because I was young and dumb. Also I wanted to see a new place. When someone asked me why I left AL I told them why. I have been in CO for 1 year and I like the jobs here and the education is great. I really miss my family and my hometown, so I wanted to go back home to see my family because I haven't seen them in a year. That's why I am telling you about my trip back home.
I never thought a white woman from North Carolina could make a change. Back then, everywhere I went I can feel the town's eyes follow. You don't grow up thinking that your beliefs could/would change. Hell, you grow up thinking much of nothing down here. In North Carolina, the only thing you have time for is making money. So you can buy more time.
Living in New Orleans for over 6 years the effects of health disparities lied at the heart of my community.
Growing up in Lockport things started off just fine everything at home was wonderful, parents was getting along I was just getting used to being the big brother. But then everything started to go downhill. My parents started to fight a lot not physically but emotionally and I guess it really impacted my parents relationship. Until one day my mom stormed out of the door and little did I know that was going to be the last time I was going to see my mom for awhile.

After two observation on children at the same age, I expected to see a different in behaviors. As I observed him, he started to see how he interact with the children around. I came to the conclusion that most children develop the same way socially as their peers of the same age. According to Zerotothree.org (2010), Children should start to play with peers in associative and collaborating play.
Political theory has changed over the history of the discipline. Two of the most influential and arguably most important theorists are the Greek philosopher Plato, and the Renaissance’s Niccolo Machiavelli. These two characters represent the beginning of idealistic political thought, and a more realist and contemporary way that politics are looked at even today. The ideals of these two will be discussed and dissected, to some extent to show how unobtainable Plato’s ideal is compared to Machiavelli’s realism that is seen in today’s political atmosphere in various types of political systems seen throughout the world.
