“Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave” The book “Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave” was written by Frederick Douglass. It is based on a true story where Douglass writes down about his life as a slave where he was born in Tuckahoe near Hillsborough. However, his mother was an African American while his father was white. The problem was that all the slaves did not know their birthday therefore, Douglas did not know his own age. Although, his master will tell him that he was around seventeen years old during 1835. So since his master told him he was seventeen then “the nearest estimate he gives himself now that he grew is between twenty-seven and twenty-eight years old” (Douglass, 4). Furthermore, in this book he also explains how he does not live with his parents since he was a little boy. However, the one he would not see the most for years was his mother because he got separated from her since he was an infant. It was rare the times he would actually see her and have a conversation with her. He even would mention how awkward it will get whenever they had a conversation due to not see each other really often. The problem was that his mother would only see Douglass only during nights and she would be gone before the sun will rise. So there was not really a conversation between them both because then he will fall asleep and whenever he would wake up he would not see her face anymore. In addition, he also explains the way
