On May 30, 2005, Natalee Holloway disappeared while on a high school graduation trip to Aruba. She was a student at Mountain Brook High School, honor student and a member of the National Honors Society. Dedicated to her education, she received a full paid scholarship to the University of Alabama, where she was set to peruse a medical degree. She excelled in every extracurricular activity that she was involved in, including her schools dance squad. Holloway was born October 21, 1986 in Clinton, Mississippi. (Wikipedia, n.d.) Her parents are David Edward Holloway and Elizabeth Ann Reynolds. She was the first born of two children. In 1993 her parents had their differences and divorced. The first story that was told by Sloot, on June 5, 2005, lead police to detain Abraham Jones and Nick John. Jones and John were security guards from the Allegro Hotel. They were held for suspicion of murder and kidnapping of Holloway. They were later released on June 13 without any charges against them. Henrietta Lacks was an African American woman who lost her life to cervical cancer. Henrietta was born on August 1, 1920 in Roanoke, Virginia (Skloot 18). Henrietta’s mother passed away, and Henrietta’s father could not raise ten children by himself. Her father took all ten children back to his hometown of Clover, Virginia where the children were divided between family members, and Henrietta ended up being raised by her grandfather who raised Henrietta and several of her cousins (Skloot 18). Henrietta held a powerful and significant key which has helped as a cure for many things and is still being used till this day . During the 1950s, a cell line called HeLa was cultivated from a poor, African mother of five who died of cervical cancer named Henrietta Lacks. It was then mass produced for research and generated billions of dollars. Many medicinal treatments and breakthroughs, such as polio, were developed from this cell line helping billions of people to this day. Unfortunately, the woman who ultimately gave her life never received a single penny, nor her family. The Lacks family lived without insurance and still to this day has received no compensation. Henrietta Lacks was a strong-willed, compassionate women that had a love for life. She always put her family first, not only her immediate family but her extended family as well. She never complained, worked hard and fought up until her death. She was humbled and lived a selfless life.

Jubilee Holloway’s death could have been prevented. It is clear from the article that the odds were stacked against this mother and child, even before the baby’s birth. I believe that society is more responsible for this baby’s death than her mother.

In past years, hospital experience turned out to be quite lengthy stays for some people and had given a redundant insult with no respect to a patient. Some people had not been as beneficial as white people have. These problems should not even exist, it is just physical discrimination against people of different color.
