In “The Beauty Behind Traveling”, Natalia Pentecost talks about living life to the fullest by experiencing the world. She was born in Poland and came to America with her mom at the age of six. She seems to have a passion for visiting, and understanding historical sites in many different countries. She tells of all the places she’s been, and places she hopes to someday visit. She also speaks of how she’s always had an interest in observing the lives of people in other countries. Pentecost believes that if more people venture out to these foreign countries and see the world you will broaden your mind to new ideas and beliefs that will lead to bettering yourself and the willingness to help others. Unlike Pentecost, I have lived in America my
In the book Parallel Journeys, by Eleanor Ayer, World War II events are described through the experiences of two people during this time. Excerpts from both character’s own memoirs are included to get the perspective from their lives. Some events that took place throughout the book include the severe reality of the Holocaust and the effect of the Hitler Youth on young Germans. Parallel Journeys specifically portrays these events through the eyes of Helen Waterford, who was a Jewish girl, and Alfons Heck, a Hitler Youth member mesmerized by the power of Adolf Hitler.
Throughout my upbringing, my mother, an immigrant herself, has always shared he passion of traveling with me. She continuously encouraged me to explore and understand other cultures. As a child, I traveled to her home country, Ecuador, where the culture is extremely different. She took me to all different parts of the country, immersing me in the different cultures of the coast and the mountains, taking me to small villages and local markets. In addition, on my 8th birthday, my family and I explored Europe. We traveled to England, France, Italy, and Switzerland. Even at such a young age, I was eager to try all the different types of cuisine, learn a few words and phrases in each language, and visit local museums and monuments. In addition, to Europe, I also had the opportunity to explore Central America, exploring the pyramids in Mexico and …. Unfortunately, as I grew up, traveling abroad became more difficult as my school schedule and my parents work schedules became more demanding. I have always desired to expand my knowledge on different cultures and countries, especially in my mother’s homeland of South America. I would love to become more in touch with my heritage and learn more about the different cultures and people of South America.
“Journeys allow travelers to reflect on their own experiences because of new knowledge gained and greater insight into themselves and the world around them.”
Travel is a very important part of Jan’s life, especially when it comes to writing and illustrating her stories. She loves to “…study the traditions of the many countries I visit and use them as a starting point for my children’s books,” (Jan

Can you predict if it was the last day of your childhood and freedom? Lucia and her family couldn 't. Lucy Lipiner’s haunting memoir “Long Journey Home” documents when Nazis invade their homeland and forced them to flee away and find shelter. With limited options on where to go, their family stays together throughout the strenuous journey to find safety throughout Europe to America. This memoir tells in detail the mental and physical struggle to get to safety and freedom. Even when tumultuous events occur, you still have a chance to become resilient no matter what circumstances. To illustrate this theme, Lucy Lipiner uses extensive imagery.
Christine De Pizan’s The City of Ladies is acknowledged as one of the earliest and most impactful feminist texts. The character of Lady Reason relays numerous rousing tales of significant, powerful female rulers with the intention of helping Christine build the City of Ladies, a sanctuary for women in a world bound by the laws of male dominance. Each story Lady Reason tells Christine attempts to expunge the propagated lies men have insisted upon to maintain their patriarchy. Lady Reason also states that the stories will serve as a foundation for the city walls; it will be the city’s base of protection. An argument can be made about how the city’s exclusivity and selective admittance of only “worthy” women insinuates that Lady Reason’s accepts of the sexist principals propagated by men. This assumption, however, is incorrect, as it does not take into account the possibility that some women are denied entrance into the city because of past deeds, such as committing crimes of homicide and theft. The role of stories in The City of Ladies is essential to the development and execution of the story, which brings to light modern day issues with gender socialization and inequality.
Those who make a habit out of traveling the world, more often than not, become more of an extrovert than they may have been prior to their many journeys. It is no secret that those who make the choice to travel more often have a bit of extroversion in them, however, even the least social of any group typically find a way out of their shell when traveling. No matter the destination, it is the various interactions with people from foreign backgrounds, beliefs and cultures that present a challenge to the normality that most individuals cling to. These initial interactions create a comfortability, or openness rather, to engage with new people and see humankind through an altered, more optimistic lens than once
As a child, I had always dreamed of traveling around the world and viewing its breathtaking creations. Through the years I still have this sudden niche for traveling and experiencing new and exciting things. From Costa Rica to much of the United States I have ventured upon a lot of traveling. Through the sale of my parents family business I received the opportunity to travel west and help the new owners grow. After traveling through many of the western states I finally realized how different not only the terrain was, but culture as well.
Unfortunately, many Americans don’t have that many opportunities for international travel—to quote J. Douglas Jr., “whatever evil war brings in its train, it has value in teaching us [Americans] geography.” (Douglas.) As a consequence, pop culture and media are the only real exposure to other cultures and places that some people have. Generally, these sources embellish and deemphasize certain features to the point where one’s experience living in the country might be completely different from the perception given. However, geography is—or, at the very least, should—inform on other countries from a completely factual and objective standpoint, which allows one to increase her worldview. Few will dispute the importance of understanding other cultures and expanding one’s
A.Attention Getter: How many of you like to travel? How many of you wish that you had all the time and money to travel around the world? I considered myself privilege to have the opportunity to visit different countries of the world. Some of the countries that I have visited include Japan, Singapore, Canada and the United States.
Travelling is important as it can remove the unintended prejudice that individuals carry out rashly. Sometimes, people unconsciously treat others differently solely based on their own beliefs. Since their judgement is based only on opinion, therefore it may be inaccurate to use when addressing the persons around them. However, exploring the world may lessen your tendency to be prejudice as you will gain detailed insights to the way others think, the way others see, and the way others live. Thus, this will allow you to not make foolhardy assumptions when being in contact with a society or community as you will be more knowledgeable to understand why they are the way they are. Removing prejudice from our lifestyle is very important to us as open-thinkers as we often make many mistakes in the treatment of other human beings. Prejudice is an undesirable trait to possess because
There are the tourists—those who seek temporary relaxation, or famous sights. There are the travelers—those who wander, without aim, for the love of moving. There are the explorers—those seeking adventure, the thrill of unearthing things rarely seen.
Minh has assumed the roles of both a tourist and tour guide. He travels to the places that he views as rich in opportunities: the attractions. My cousin is in control of his own path, and will strive to understand the way of life of others in those various locations. In embarking on his endeavors, Minh has truly learned to appreciate other cultures, thus expanding the scope of his worldview. There remains one final destination for him to complete his
Over the course of my short life, I have been to every imaginable world. Of course, these simply exist in my mind. My mind, that tends to wander off to more places than anyone has ever been to. Using my mind as an example I have decided that I want to break out and travel the world, as many people on this planet do for one simple reason. They believe that by getting lost it is possible to find yourself. Questioning this theory that many seem to have engraved into their mind, I went on an adventure this summer with my favorite person in the universe, my grandmother. We got lost, believe me when I say this, yet instead of finding myself, I left with even more questions. Prague, a small city on a big planet, seemed to have the greatest impact on the thoughts that wander inside my head.
