We had a fast trip down to Mississippi to visit with Dad & Kay. With all the storms blowing through, we managed to evade them all thankfully. We did have sunny skies on Friday & Monday. And the little Miata just hummed along. We took the top down Friday after we left Hopkinsville KY. Getting off the Pennyrile Pkwy and onto I-24 for a bit, traffic became quite heavy heading into Nashville, so we got off the interstate and cut across the countryside to the far edge of Nashville. Once on the southwest side of Nashville and the beginning of the Natchez Trace Parkway we stopped at the infamous Loveless Cafe before driving the Natchez Trace. We thought we'd just sit down, have a meal and drive on.....uh no, 1 1/2 hr wait, the place was packed with people there to eat smoked BBQ sandwiches. In the next building over, they sold sandwiches to go, so that is what we did, sort of. We found some chairs outside in the shade, ate our meal. The Natchez Trace is a destination drive within itself, maintained by the National Park Service, it is a beautiful drive with lots of places to pull off, hike, see waterfalls, vistas, etc.....none of which we did :-) …show more content…
Saturday we were at Dad & Kay's at 11am. We had a nice lunch and a good visit with them, great to see them again. Sunday, storms were moving through in the morning, so we waited to check out till noon, our time. We had a good lunch at a place called Harvey's and a stop by Elvis's birthplace in Tupelo. Later, at a rest stop in Paris TN, evening was coming on and cooler, so top down till we stopped at the Kentucky Dam Village State Park for supper in the lodge overlooking the lake. After that, we were really getting tired, decided not to drive on home, it was near 9pm then, so we stayed the night in Eddyville, KY. We are glad to be back home in the hills of beautiful southern Indiana! Southern Indiana is just as pretty as western KY & TN
Although Dollywood was exhilarating; Gatlinburg was a close second. Gatlinburg is really where the city yet country atmosphere comes into play. We started our journey passing through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and let me just tell you, it was astonishing. This really exhibits the beauty of the smoky mountains. The rocky rivers, unrelenting waterfalls, and glistening greenery really embodied the allure of The Great Smoky Mountains. Unfortunately at this point we just drove through because we were on our way to Gatlinburg, but we came back. Our first destination in Gatlinburg was the aquarium, because we are both fish lovers! We spent hours here, then went on our way elsewhere. Just walking down the streets of Gatlinburg could have kept us entertained for hours. Of course the kid in the both of us guided us to our next destination, the arcade! This was without a doubt my boyfriend’s favorite part, we spent roughly the rest of the afternoon in here, but we didn 't leave our cabin until about 11. There was this crazy clown game where you knock down clowns by throwing balls, and it was extremely addictive. Surprisingly we weren 't the only older people in there. After this we spent the rest of the afternoon shopping and engaging with the friendly people. Finally we were exhausted, and returned to our cabin.
The Natchez Steamboat is an old steam powered paddle boat. It was made in 1975. The engine was made in 1935. When you get on the dock you have to go through a Disney World styled line it was long but you got through it quickly. They have big sailors wheel that you can take a picture with and get back in a frame. As you’re waiting to board the boat you can see the beautiful Mississippi River and different statues. When you get your ticket you have to get half ripped of and the other half you need to save the other part because that’s how you will get your lunch. As you cruise along the Mississippi you can see all of the things that make New Orleans special. After about thirty minutes of riding we got called in for lunch.
Road trips with the family weren’t always fun and exciting. Sometimes they could get very irritating. For instance, I remember the time when my family and I went to Indiana for Carter’s Hoop Shoot Regional Final. When we were finally about two hours away from our destination, the transmission on my mom’s GMC Acadia stopped working completely. As a result, we had to pay around 4,000 dollars to get it fixed and had to wait an extra couple days after the Hoop Shoot so it could get fixed. That trip was very stressful and made everything we did harder and a lot more frustrating.
Today, “The Natchez Trace Parkway is a 444-mile recreational road and scenic drive through three states. It roughly follows the "Old Natchez Trace" a historic travel corridor used by American Indians, "Kaintucks," European settlers, slave traders, soldiers, and future presidents.
Do you have a favorite tourist attraction? Personally mine would be Gatlinburg Tennessee. Although Gatlinburg is a long trip, there is just so many different exciting things to do. Gatlinburg is a great place to go to Cades Cove, go to Dolly World, and also go to The Comedy Barn.
The Oregon trail had a huge part in the westward expansion of U.S. Due to the amount of space, the United State’s population drastically increased. However, the journey was not easy. Especially, for the Chinese. The Emigrants on the Oregon trail had the most difficulty trying to survive and thrive in the west due to the high rate of illness, severe weather, and harsh conditions.
After our little trip to San Antonio River Walk we drove back home to Elisabeth for a fast shower and ate some lunch before the next trip to Alamo Museum also here in Texas. I really like Museums because you can see so many things from the history.
Once we got to San Antonio we got lost for about 15 minutes because of a road contruction. It was fun with my girls we were singing, talking about there school and we saw diffrent park attractions and all kinds of other places. Finally at around 11:30 a.m we got to Harlingen, Texas at my sisters house safe and sound. But that didn't stop us , once we got there we just picked up my sister and my nephew and we headed to the beach of South Padre Island. We were almost there because you can start to smell the fresh salt water and see the big 2 mile stretch of the bridge. Once we arrived we parked right by the water on the sand. My girls just got off my car and started running towards the waves of water. Me and my sister watched while my nephew and my girls were splashing in the water. We really enjoyed that day. We had a barbeque and played volley ball, relaxed on top of a float in the
Driving across the country is not essentially easy! But gladly my dad and another trucker do it every year! The crew will bolted out of the truck every 4-6 hours and feed the cows and then get something for themselves. But… they saw rain. This only meant worse! But happily soon they saw a shiny
the trip if I rode in the front. The drive over to Memphis was amazing! Beautiful weather, some
We also had the chance to do some shopping before leaving and to me, that was the highlight of my trip. The Nashville mall was so big it man little Augusta, Ga mall look like a broom closet. In the mall I stopped at a shoe store, where I bought some sandals I had been wanting for the longest but could never find in the mall at home. The trip was very rewarding to me because I got a chance to spend quality time with a part of my family that I only get the chance to see during the Holidays. The trip brought a lifetime of memories that I will never forget. We ended our trip with a birthday celebration for my two nieces whose birthdays were a few days apart. The colorful pink party for the girls included; crown shaped cake, ice-cream, and lots of smiles from the two birthday girls. Furthermore, the three-day trip was over and it was back to the hotel to pack for the drive home. The drive home needless to say was not very exciting. I would have loved to stay in Nashville visiting my aunt for a few more days I was happy to be home. My family does not get together that often, we are a happy family but we also have our differences like any other
Something good that happened was that I heard that the game after that the Pacers lost (they played my favorite team so I was fine with that.) Another interesting basketball in Indiana is the going to the Butler Bulldogs campus and sports facilities. We actually didn’t get to see a basketball game, but we did get to go into Hinkle Fieldhouse (the arena where the Bulldogs play basketball and volleyball.) However, even though there was no basketball game, we still got to enjoy some action! The volleyball team was playing when we were there. Additionally, we explored in Butler was the football field (we also played on it) and the softball stadium. There are many amazing things we got to experience in Indianapolis this year. I hope we can do something as magnificent next year. Maybe we could do a baseball trip instead; maybe we could stay in Kansas City for our baseball trip! Also, I think that maybe I should go to Butler. My brother has actually said multiple times that he wanted to go to Butler. Then I could play for the
None of the folks I spoke with had heard about TN driving trails, although these trails are exactly the types of vacations they are looking for – off the beaten path, cost-effective, felt the info provided made them feel safer as far as the destination was concerned. In like fashion, pictures attract attention, however, realistic photos were crucial.
The State Fair of Texas has been a family tradition for me and my family for many years but this year I was able to pass the tradition on to my friends. The State Fair of Texas is in Dallas Texas at Fair Park and consists of multiple rides and food and most importantly the famous Ferris wheel. One of my favorite parts of the fair is all of the amazing and different kinds foods they have available to try. The people who came with me were some of my friends from college, some of which who have been to the fair and some who have never been. Another fun part of that day was the drive up to the fair and back to Waco. I was the one who was driving the car so that always comes with its perks and responsibilities, still the drive still consisted of much enjoyment and laughter. A good road trip to the fair with friends needs to bring everyone closer, cause a great amount of joy or happiness and laughter, and must be with a great group of friends. My recent trip to the state fair with my friends is the perfect example of a road trip with friends due to all of us becoming a lot closer to each other, the great enjoyment and happiness of our group of friends, and the group of friends that made it such an amazing and unforgettable trip.
We pulled out of the motel parking lot before dawn and drove straight down Interstate 15 without stopping except to buy fuel or to answer nature 's call. Although we had eschewed Interstate
