The most powerful recurring conflict in The Lord of the Flies is the man vs man. Throughout the book disagreements and altercations amongst the boys occur in every chapter, appearing in every situation. Ralph and Jack have been fighting for the spot of being chief and no matter what the situation is they don’t know how to work together. It creates a feud with high tensions that later result in the boy’s going down their own path’s about being on the island. The two boy’s were both trying to accomplish what they thought was best, but the choices made from either boy didn’t coincide with each other’s decision’s, especially when an assembly was demanded:

All stories must have a conflict in them. Some have only one but the narrator and author of the short story “ The Most Dangerous Game’’ by Richard Connell has not only one but three to give the story a little rage . Man vs man, man vs himself and man vs nature are all included in the story. They all exist in the story and these are some of the examples the author puts on the story when writing it.

There are different types of conflict, the conflict such as Man .vs. Nature, Man.vs. Man, and Person .vs. Self these types of conflicts show the struggle people have to go succeed a goal, dream or just to survive. In the poem “Ode to a Mouse” by Robert Burns and the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, both authors use the literary element, Conflict to show the struggles of the characters.

With the rising popularity of college sports it’s no wonder that some student-athletes are questioning whether they should be paid or not. Research indicates that paying college athletes isn’t a viable, or necessary, option. Reasons against paying college athletes include, the lack of money colleges have to pay their student-athletes, the plentiful scholarships college athletes are able to receive, the worry that a pay-for-play situation might be created, and the idea that colleges should be used as a place of academics rather than athletics. The first argument people who are for paying college athletes have is that they believe colleges make millions of dollars on their athletic programs, so why can’t some of the millions go towards the athletes

Nathaniel Hawthorne once said, “I do not want to be a doctor and live by men’s diseases, nor minister to live by their sins, nor a lawyer and live by men’s quarrels. So, I don’t see that there is anything left for me but to be an author” (Nathaniel). This statement describes Hawthorne’s personality and life in a way that no other quote could. Nathaniel Hawthorne was an Anti-Transcendentalist writer meaning that he had a negative view of all humans. The Anti-Transcendentalist movement was a pessimistic branch of Romanticism and it began in mid 1800s and lasted until late 1800s. Nathaniel Hawthorne was influenced greatly by his childhood, which is what caused him to be an anti-transcendentalist, yet in his novel The Scarlet Letter there was a bridge created between anti-transcendentalism and utopian transcendentalism.

Conflict can take on many forms in one’s life, such as conflict with self, with society, with religion and with others. Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter, develops the theme of conflict through the moral sin of Hester Prynne. Conflict is observed through Hester’s difficulties with the townspeople, challenges with the Puritan way of life, struggles with herself and tensions with Roger Chillingworth. Committing sin in the Puritan society leads to a great deal of conflicts.

Nathaniel Hawthorne was one of American literature's finest writers; his writing style was very distinct and unusual in some aspects. The Puritan view of life itself was considered to be allegorical, their theology rested primarily on the idea of predestination and the separation of the saved and the damned As evident from Hawthorne's writings his intense interest in Puritanical beliefs often carried over to his novels such as, Young Goodman Brown, The Scarlet Letter, and The Minister's Black Veil just to name a few of the more well known pieces of his work.

With most writers, readers can identify what topics they tend to write about, how long their pieces often are, and what personal style these authors develop. While this is true of author Nathaniel Hawthorne, there are different elements that influence his writings. His life included many times of trials, many joys, and many ancestors that caused some turmoil within his mind. Two of his major works are influenced almost directly by his background (Werlock).
