Basketball is a sport with limited contact but, some people consider it to be a limited contact sport. It is played on a wooden court made for better grip on shoes. Officially, it is a sport that is played five on five; some play with fewer on each side for better competition. The objective of the game is to shoot a ball through a hoop that is 18 inches in diameter and 10 feet high and is mounted to a backboard
Basketball is a favorite sport to many Americans. It is a sport that takes strength, determination, hand-eye coordination and many other challenging aspects. All of this skill is used to do one thing, put the ball in the hoop. The ball itself is surprisingly very complex and takes a while to be comfortable with it.
Sport recruiters commonly use statistics to find potential athletes. They also use statistics to decide which players are doing well amd they try to predict which players will bring the best results for the game.
There are five players that will start out in the game which are called your starters. You always have five players in the game at all time. The are what are called fouls in basketball. Fouls can hurt you if you're down in the game with very few time left. Here are some examples of fouls, technical foul, personal foul, and a charging foul. Here are some other ruler that you can’t do that are not fouls, travel, double dribble, three second violation, and a five second violation. The object in basketball is to get as many points into the basketball hoop. You can get a three or a two pointer. There are many ruler and ways to teach the game of
A big part of what most people will notice right away if they watch NBA and College basketball is the officiating. In the NBA as soon as a team reaches 5 fouls for that quarter the opposing team gets two foul shots for every foul after that whether it’s a shooting or on the floor foul. Until the next quarter then the team fouls reset but not personal fouls. This is much simpler than how College basketball fouls work. Since instead of quarts college basketball has halves. So, in each half as soon as one team reaches 7 team fouls the opposing team gets 1 fouls shot for every foul from there on out. This happens until the team is to reach 10 team fouls, from this point on the opposing team gets 2 fouls shot for every foul. Once a half is over then the team' fouls reset back to zero. The biggest difference most people will notice is the fact that in the NBA a player can get up to 6 personal fouls until they are fouled out of the game. This is a big difference than in College because in College a player only gets 5
Rules of the game of basketball. Basketball is a team sport. Two teams of five players each try to score by shooting a ball through a hoop elevated 10 feet above the ground. The game is played on a rectangular floor called the court, and there is a hoop at each end. The court is divided into two main sections by the mid-court line. If the offensive team puts the ball into play behind the mid-court line, it has ten seconds to get the ball over the mid-court line. If it doesn 't, then the defense gets the ball. Once the offensive team gets the ball over the mid-court line, it can no longer have possession of the ball in the area in back of the
But, ones you hold back the ball you have only 2 choices which are passing or shooting. When you hold the ball, you cannot travel more than 2 steps, which mean 3 steps and above. Points in basketball consist of 3 types that are 3 points, 2 point and 1 point. The recommended attire when playing basketball are sport shoes, three-quarter pants and sleeveless shirt.
The NBA has a twenty four second shot clock with eight seconds to cross the half court line. The NCAA has a thirty five second shot clock with ten seconds to cross the half court line. This is one of several reasons for why you see such a wide variety of scoring in NCAA
In basketball, in order to score three points the players have to shoot the ball behind the three-point line. In College this three-point line is exactly 19 feet and 9 inches away from the hoop. As a player practices and improves, his/her shot is going to improve, so in the NBA, to make the game more competitive they made the distance for three pointers 23 feet and 9 inches away from the hoop (TITUS). Although the three-point line changes this is the only real difference between a NBA and College basketball court. The foul line and court size still all remains the same.
There are three different spots on the court, where players can shoot from. There is the 2 point area, 3 point line, and the free throw line. The 3 point line is 23 feet and 9 inches away from the hoop. The two point line is anywhere in front of the 3 point line. 2 pointers can be anywhere from just under 23 feet to a couple inches away from the hoop. The free throw line is 15 feet away from the basketball hoop. Free throws are only given to players who are fouled, a player gets a free shot without any defenders guarding him. If a player is fouled while taking a shot behind the 3 point line that player will get 3 free throws. If a player is fouled in front of the 3 point line that player will receive 2 free throws. If a player is fouled while taking a shot and he makes it that player will only receive 1 free
Using these numbers, they can then create several mathematical models that then are used for statistical comparison of each of the players. Football uses statistics of everything like how many passes or catches a player makes. Then some of the coaches of the different teams use these statistics to compare each of the achievements the player makes. Realizing that there is the use of mathematics in everything like a simple and fun football game, shows me that you can calculate a lot of things and get statistics from them, these can help me in my math course and during my life because the use of statistics and the information I can get can make me know the probabilities of things happening or like the coaches in the teams that use them to compare things, I can use them for that too. I should use statistics more in my life when they can apply because they can make a difference in how I see things and make my life easier if I know what are the probabilities of an event happening, even if I am trying to choose between several things, I can get statistics to see which one is better or which one is the best option
We can all agree that basketball is almost becoming popular around the world. So many people play this sport but do people know how basketball started and how it evolute throughout the years since basketball was borned? So like every other sports and creations, there has to be a inventor and in basketball there was a man by the name of Dr. James Naismith. “Created in 1891 in a Springfield, Massachusetts YMCA gymnasium has grown into a game played worldwide by more than 300 million people”(historybits.com). So this game has been out for a very long period of time with many changing of the rules in basketball throughout the history. When it was first played in the late 1800s, there were different rules and even different looking basketball. As for the rules, originally there would be 10 people on the court but it first started with 18 people on the court which after couple of years it changed to only 10 people. Substitution was also different and the rule for this was at first no one can enter until the next game. “The rule was changed in 1920 to allow a player to re-enter the game one time. In 1934, the rule was expanded to allow players to re-enter the game twice, and, in 1945 the rule was finally changed to permit players to return to the game an unlimited number of times”(hooptactics.com). The first basketball looked very alike a football but round. The backboards were made out of straight wood and the baskets were made out of peach baskets or square boxes. There was only
The first description of a shot was described earlier as simply a shot but more specifically can be referenced to a jump shot. The second way to look at shooting the basketball using physics is referred to as a layup. The difference between the two is that a jump shot has little or no horizontal movement toward the basket. Instead the jump shot relies strictly on vertical movement. Specifically the shooter will be stopped and jump using two feet straight up and down vertically and push the basketball off the finger tips to obtain the force and angle to get the ball to the basket. The layup on the other hand is done by the shooter jumping off of one foot while running. The shooter jumps vertically and uses the momentum from running to propel horizontally toward the basket. The shooter is generally closer to the basket while shooting a layup versus a jump shot. The same physics that were applied to the jump shot are applied to the layup as well. There is still an angle and force that the ball would need to travel toward the basket but since the shooter is moving horizontally toward the basket velocity will play more of factor. Since the balls velocity is the sum of the shooters speed and the balls speed the ball does not need as much force to get to the basket but it is more or less just let go of or dropped off into the basket. This also explains the slam dunk. Instead of dropping the ball into
Connecting to audience: I’m sure most of you have shot a basketball in your lifetime, but I’m sure few of you are aware of the basic mechanics to shooting a basketball. Today, I’ll show the basics of shooting.
Basketball, on the other hand is played inside on a court. There are only five players per team on the court at a time. Players have to play both offense and defense simultaneously. The scoring in basketball is also different; points can be scored in increments of one, two and three, these are scored by shooting the ball into a hoop. Basketball is a game that is played by skilled people who can jump high, shoot well, and have great ball handling skills. Playing basketball requires you to have to have endurance, because running from offense to defense and back to offense requires you to be in great shape. Basketball is played at a medium pace and can be very exciting and nail biting.
