I am greatly appreciative of this opportunity to be a part of the honored students in the National Honors Society. Ever since I learned about the prestige of this organization I wished to one day join, and seeing my two older sisters be apart of the society must have been a contributing factor as well. Through the years I have learned to take calculated risks, how to grow emotionally and spiritually, the value of hardwork, and how to learn. I take pride in who I am turning out to be, constantly finding ways to do the right thing no matter how hard it is, and never ending my pursuit for learning and improvement. I see this society as another avenue in which I can challenge myself, and set myself up for success. There are many benefits of being an NHS member, scholarships and recognition being some, but these are overshadowed by the effect of the expectations applied to students. Leadership, character and community service are all required for each member. These are lifelong skills that are sharpened within NHS. Passion is defined by the life and death of Jesus Christ. Because He laid down his life for me, I find it my duty to live for Him and through Him. All of my values are rooted in Christ and our relationship. Without character none of the other pillars would be worth anything, because character creates motivation. With the wrong intent behind leadership it becomes manipulation, doing community service out of the wrong place is done for personal gain, and scholarship, or the pursuit for knowledge, if not out of good character and good intention will surely be misused. 1 Corinthians 13 says that if I have not love, I am nothing. Because I chose to love the Lord and I believe His word, it is clear to me that I must have a character of love before anything
