I am thrilled to be attending UW-River Falls in the fall. There are so many experiences I wish to explore while attending. I feel there is a lot I can bring to the campus and very excited to get to know new people. My mom is an optometrist which has sparked an interest for me to become an ophthalmologist. I know becoming a medical professional is not an easy task, but I am sure I can do it if I work hard enough. Along with occasionally helping out my mom at her office, I have worked at Dairy Queen and with my dad. I help my mom by doing invoices. When I started at Dairy Queen, I didn't know anyone. I quickly made friends by always doing my job and joking around a bit when there was tense situations. With my dad, I work in the yard, build and fix things. I took mechanics and welding in school so I could enhance those skills. I have been involved in many activities through my high school years. I ran cross country for 4 years then became a manager, which means I still ran at practice but at meets I helped the coaches with various things. I’ve been playing softball since I was 5 and have always loved it. From fifth to twelfth grade I have been on student council and working to make our school a better place. This year I became the vice president of National Honor Society. Getting to work with the community and helping with NHS has changed my life. …show more content…
I serve turkey dinners and make means for the less fortunate. I also serve at mass most Sundays. My favorite experience was getting the opportunity to volunteer at the local hospital. I helped the older people in the clinic get up and stretch. After that I took on the task of prepping people before surgeries. Some of these people were very scared, but I always assured them they would be alright. I made beds, checked patients in, and really just loved the overall
During high school I have made some great accomplishments that I am very proud of such as being on the honor roll all four years of high school even receiving academic excellence for two out of the four. I am a member of National Honors Society and Student Council at Central High School. I ran track for two years and played volleyball all four years of high school. When I am not busy at school I am either working at Whitey’s Ice cream where I am currently a supervisor or volunteering.
If I were to be accepted into the National Junior Honor Society, which is one of the highest honors that can be awarded, I would consider myself to be a very lucky person. Throughout my life, I've always considered myself as someone with good character and values.I've always prided myself in always doing the right thing and helping others. In addition, I view myself as a leader, not a follower. Being a leader comes naturally to me. I'm a leader amongst my friends and siblings. They always look up to me when they have a problem or when they need advice. I have a good standard education with an A average which will help me achieve my goals in the future.
"Character, in the long run, is the decisive factor in the life of an individual and of nations alike." Theodore Roosevelt. Students should demonstrate scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character because of three reasons. One, if students demonstrate these qualities they are more likely to get better grades and get reprimanded less. Another, without these traits, a student would have far less opportunities in the future. Finally, as students grow they will gain much more wisdom if they allow themselves to work on demonstrating these characteristics. Overall, these qualities are very important in the present, and in the future.
Volunteering, in minor or significant ways, taught me that I could make an impact in the world and along the way build my character, experience the world, and develop better communication skills. I learned this at my local library, Fumo Family Branch. I aspire to become a part of the National Honors Society because I want to network with my peers and people outside of the Academy at Palumbo, improve my character and leadership skills, and give back to my community. I strongly believe that I am a great candidate because I possess the four pillars of the National Honors Society: scholarship, character, leadership, and service.
I believe that I would be a good representative for the National Junior Honor Society because I represent the five qualities of a member of the organization: scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. I have leadership skills from programs like Girl Scouts, softball, and Student Council. I’ve volunteered in many service projects including Christmas bags for foster children, playing piano at a hospice center, volunteering at a food bank, teaching brownies (2nd to 3rd graders) how to camp at a Girl Scout camp, passing out flowers to rooms in a hospice center, and passing out care packages to the homeless. I have amazing citizenship skills such as following rules and laws in not only the classroom but in my community, teaching
National Junior Honor Society is a great opportunity for me, and I am very honored to be selected to apply. I feel I am an acceptable candidate, for not only am I
It is unbelievable that I have been selected to potentially become an NHS member. As I look back on the last two and a half years of my high school career, I realize there have been many times that I could have given up on trying to achieve my academic goals. I have had opportunities to cheat and lie my way through it, but as a meticulous student chose to do my very best the honest way. I have maintained a 4.0 grade point average, so I am an incredibly hard-working student. I promise to continue to work hard in order to keep getting straight A’s and that is only one reason I should be chosen to be an official member of the National Honor Society.
An application can only do so much to reveal someone’s character. I believe my application leaves much room for discussion, it does not fully describe me. As my resume indicates, I am actively committed to improving the community and helping others. What it fails to illustrate is my resilience, dedication, cooperativeness, and my confidence. I go into situations with an open mind, positivity and a dedication to build strong relationships with those around me. If there are obstacles stopping me from doing so, I try to overcome them. Recently, I was hired at a catering hall with absolutely no clue what to expect. Instead of being wary and apprehensive, I jumped right in; albeit some mistakes, I became increasingly confident as the evening progressed.
When I received my application packet to the National Honor Society, my first thought was, “Why me? I’m nothing special.” What changed my mind was looking at the application and, more specifically, the requirements for membership and thinking, “Hey that applies to me!” The prestigious National Honor Society is well – known for its high standards of entry. Not just a 3.8 GPA, but demanding more from its applicants. It not only demands that they have intelligence, but morals, good character, perseverance, and a track record of service to others to back it up. And while I have a 4.1 GPA to meet the Scholarship requirements, I think that what is most important is my leadership experience and capabilities and my spirit of service to others.
The activities that i'm involved in, inside of school are Marching Band. The Albert Lea High School Marching Band is during the summer and lasts about a week. It’s a blast and I meet new friends, also 8th Graders are allowed to do marching band and us upper kids help them with marching and memorizing the music. I also do regular Band class here at school. I play the Flute and are now learning how to play the Tuba, during the marching band season I do Drumline. I use to play softball and volleyball. Softball wasn’t the greatest, I mean getting hit in the face with softballs isn’t fun, other than that I had a great time and games and the girls on my team were the nicest. I played volleyball for 3 years. I had to skip a year of volleyball to plan my Quinceanera. This year, my sophomore year, I tried out for volleyball. Sadly I didn’t make it. Even though i was bummed out, I learned to cope with it.
Throughout my senior year, I was captain of the cheer team and the basketball team. I really enjoyed leading them through the challenges and the successful times. Also, every other Friday I travel to our elementary school with some of my fellow classmates, and help the teachers and students out with any necessary tasks. We work one on one with the students, and sometimes we just listen to them read and pronounce words correctly. I think that I serve my community with great effort.
I volunteered at the Hinds Hospice because I thought It would be a fairly fun place to do community service. I worked doing a variety of things such as organizing movies, cleaning off the books, vacuuming, and sweeping the front of the store and the parking lot. My supervisor for this was Ariana, the owner of the store. The hospice sells recycled items and donates the money to charities in the community. I also helped people find what they needed at times, but it was rare and also kinda frustrating that It didn't happen often.
Throughout my Jr. High and High School career, I've had many pastimes and hobbies that I found I could participate in outside of the classroom for. During the seventh grade and all the way until my sophomore year of High School I participated in basketball. From the seventh grade until my senior year of high school I participated in cross-country. In Middle School I participated in wrestling, and most recently I have partaken in soccer for my junior and senior year of High School. Besides sports I spent a good amount of time dedicating myself to volunteer for the local parks and rec center. I volunteered on projects such as the Annual Triathlon, the Haunted House, and many more. I also volunteered for the local Clinic during their annual 5K Color Run.
During my High school career I was involved with multiple extracurriculars. I played volleyball for 3 years, my Freshman, Sophmore and Junior year. I played soccer for the last 3 years and will be my fourth this spring. I volunteer at my Church, St. Joesph Catholic Church and teach kindergardeners about faith for all my 3 years plus this year. I am a nane to 3 kids this past fall and summer. I play travel soccer this fall aswell. I am envoled in Key club and Arbor club.
For the past couple of years I have volunteered in my local church. I have helped my priest by greeting people at the door, and handing out songs and books before mass. In the summer, I would take care of the younger kids at our church camp for a week. I recently started volunteering in our church choir. I now sing in the choir every Sunday mass.
