National Honor Society Four Pillars Essay

Simply being invited to become a member of the National Honor Society is a privilege. It’s not necessarily surprising to me that I was invited but rather gives me an exhilarating feeling. A part of me now knows that my sedulous efforts have finally paid off. Throughout my high school career so far I’ve exhibited the four pillars, which are scholarship, leadership, character, and service. This organization administers a plethora of opportunities that has an impact on the students and the lives of others especially. To be accepted into the National Honor Society would motivate me to contribute even more to not only our school but also the community.

Many only see the National Honor Society as an organization that will look excellent on college applications, and although that may be true, the National Honor Society is not an organization that can be taken so lightly. The National Honor Society is so much more than a scholarship-granting organization, the NHS is an organization that helps develop the requisite for render service and the development of leadership and character. The growth and success of the NHS relies on not only its members, but also those outside of the organization. Its members can only do so much on their own. Part of building character and leadership is to encourage and rely on others whom are capable of helping. The members of NHS shouldn’t let their pride and achievements

The National Honor Society is for high school seniors who have “demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character”. At John Marshall we really push the “service” area. There are so many different reason I wanted to be a part of NHS; It gives me satisfaction that I was able to become a member of such an elite society, it also is very rewarding to give back to a community that has done so much for me. Each service project I have volunteered at has taught me something different. Since July, I have volunteered at eleven different projects (over 32 hours), and I have learned something new every time. When I volunteered at the Marshall County Family Resource Network’s gift packaging for teenagers at Cameron High and Middle, Moundsville Middle, Sherrard Middle and John Marshall High Schools, I didn’t realize there were so many of my peers in need of simple hygiene products. It inspired me to help and give back to them by donating to Paws for a Cause at John

My personal development has been molded by many people and things, yet the four pillars of National Honor Society have exceeded all other influences in their potency. Scholarship, service, leadership, and character— each pillar engenders its own unique form of impact upon me. Furthermore, the foundation of my future goals harmonizes seamlessly with the pillars; I shall strive toward success by applying them throughout my life.

“As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others” according to Bill Gates, while John Maxwell tells people that “Leadership is influence - nothing more, nothing less.” Neither of them completely capture leadership, but at the same time, neither of them are wrong. To be a leader, one must empower and influence those they lead in order to get the results they want. Neither one mentions that a leader must be confident in themselves and show others that they are confident with the decisions they make for themselves and others. As president of the Italian National Honor Society at my school, it is my job to promote excellence in the course, as well as in the community. Since our society values giving back to the community, we put an emphasis on community service. Many of the other students in the society worried about completing their hours. I showed them that they did not need to worry about getting their service hours by completing all of my required hours for both National and Italian Honor Societies before the end of November.

Qualifying for National Honors Society is a great honor and is the apotheosis of my highschool career. As a highschool student in arduous honors classes, I am faced with challenges on a daily basis that might discourage me from achieving my goals in life. Because high school can be rigorous and stressful at times, I have realized how these hindrances should be the reason for me to persevere towards greatness and to learn who I truly am. A National Honor Society member showcases leadership, service, exemplifies positive character, and an outstanding academic excellence at the same time. I believe that I display these characteristics, and would be an asset to the organization .

One of my favorite quotations is from John Wooden, former coach at UCLA; he states, “The most powerful leadership tool you have is your own personal example.” I am a perfect fit for Marquette University’s Honors Program because I am a natural leader, a strong communicator, and a well-rounded individual.

I remember last year after receiving the letter from NHS that I had not been accepted into National Honors Society, as dreadful as it was to receive that bad news I learned many things that emphasize and describe my character. I noticed how throughout Freshman and part of Sophomore year of High School I was just a student who focused heavily on school work rather that combining school work with a social and meaningful life. After realizing my past I had to act on that and change the way I once was, I recognized how much I lacked in leadership and service within the community. After completing my twelve year studies at my local Sunday School I decided to help the school out by assisting the office and teachers by completing the tremendous amount

The National Honor Society is a group of kids that excel; they work with the community to improve the community and their abilities simultaneously. I believe that I would be a fantastic addition to Lynden’s Nation Honor Society Chapter because I exemplify the four points of the National Honor Society scholarship, service, leadership, and character. One of my strongest points is scholarship. The reason that I show scholarship is because I am willing to work very hard at everything that I do. When I was a kid, I did terrible in school, my grades were bad and I was heavily tutored during and after classes.

In the National Junior Honor Society there are 5 pillars in its logo in which are noted for others to understand and factors to improve and help you benefit in your community. Its pillars represent scholarship, leadership,service,citizenship and a character in students.Having membership here,is me being given a chance to show standardizations for every possibility in my future.It’s knowing that when I grow up,I have a better chance of showing greatness in the career I have always wanted to have. In NJHS I can learn how to engage with my community,and to be helpful to those around me.Having the devotion to have responsibilities and staying strong to the rights and freedoms I have been granted from living in the United States.Using that to be vigilant to the society I live in today. Members of the National Honors society gracefully and diligently display four important characteristics during and after their induction. These individuals set examples to others through these important traits: scholarship, leadership, character, and service. All of these characteristics are very important and unable to be fully mastered without the other. But with everything, there is always a core or a center. This core of the traits is leadership. Leadership is unattainable without respect, charisma, compassion, and intelligence. A trait taught through the previous characteristics. But leadership is the base of it all, allowing an individual to put together amazing events and providing an opportunity to others through their actions. A

The National Honors Society allows students to be build and create traits that are essential in a successful adult. I truly believe that hold many of these traits and joining the National Honor Society will grant me the opportunity to expand on these traits and grow as a person. Thus far I have focus greatly on the scholarship aspect of NHS and have been dedicated to my academics. I have held my GPA above 4.0 and have always been devoted to maintaining that high level of academic success. The skills I have shown in devoting myself to my academics can be easily translated into my dedication for the other aspects of leadership, service and character. Since entering the National Honor Society I have learned the significance of hard work. Good grades, the ability to show cooperation and leadership, and having the desire to help others without instruction are needed in the society. The National Honor Society has revealed the importance of hard work to me, and once inaugurated, one's efforts cannot slack up. One must still be engaged in keeping good grades, participating in voluntary work, and doing everything to the absolute best of your ability.
