National Honor Society Fundraiser Sparks Misunderstandings National Honor Society plans to throw a football jersey fundraiser in order to prepare for the upcoming induction ceremony. This decision has lead to many misunderstandings throughout the Pella High School student body. There were many questions, but the most frequently asked was, ‘What is the money for’? We asked local National Honor Society leader Wade VanVark this question. In hopes that things would slowly become clearer as more explanations come. “We have some operating expenses including the programs we print and distribute for our induction ceremony in the spring including our candles. That’s why we try to generate funds to support those types of things. We also think it’s a good opportunity to give back. Which is why we give some of …show more content…
Many students are very split on their opinion on the fundraiser, but as it stands now it is far out of the student’s hands. Senior, Emily Dux a member of National Honor Society, was just as unsure as the rest of the student body. “I think that there's still a lot of confusion and rumors going around about what is happening. I have heard lots of people confused about whether we're auctioning off the new jerseys to wear or the old jerseys to keep, and honestly I don't even know which one it's supposed to be! I think we all just need to wait for an official announcement before we get so worked up about it,” said Dux. VanVark gave us his view on those rumors and opinions expressed by students who worry about how the fundraiser will affect them. Along with that he dispelled some of the confusion by providing us with an
Many only see the National Honor Society as an organization that will look excellent on college applications, and although that may be true, the National Honor Society is not an organization that can be taken so lightly. The National Honor Society is so much more than a scholarship-granting organization, the NHS is an organization that helps develop the requisite for render service and the development of leadership and character. The growth and success of the NHS relies on not only its members, but also those outside of the organization. Its members can only do so much on their own. Part of building character and leadership is to encourage and rely on others whom are capable of helping. The members of NHS shouldn’t let their pride and achievements
I have been raised on a dairy farm and my mom was also grew up on a dairy farm. My stepdad is a fourth generation dairy farmer and together my parents have taught me the sacrifice and hard work that goes into a farmer’s life. I am thankful for the privilege I have had in growing up on a farm and I want to help educate community members on the significance of our day to day dairy farmers and their contributions to society.
I have a passion to change people’s lives. Therefore I am deeply honored to have been chosen out of a few hundred to have the opportunity to be part of the National Junior Honor Society. This experience would teach me much more about being a leader. I feel I would be an important asset to your team, and I hope you will consider having
The National Honor Society is for high school seniors who have “demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character”. At John Marshall we really push the “service” area. There are so many different reason I wanted to be a part of NHS; It gives me satisfaction that I was able to become a member of such an elite society, it also is very rewarding to give back to a community that has done so much for me. Each service project I have volunteered at has taught me something different. Since July, I have volunteered at eleven different projects (over 32 hours), and I have learned something new every time. When I volunteered at the Marshall County Family Resource Network’s gift packaging for teenagers at Cameron High and Middle, Moundsville Middle, Sherrard Middle and John Marshall High Schools, I didn’t realize there were so many of my peers in need of simple hygiene products. It inspired me to help and give back to them by donating to Paws for a Cause at John
Being the Vice President of the National Honor Society (NHS), it was of paramount importance for me to present the benefits of not only being a member of the National Honor Society but to present all of the opportunities available from being a member as well. The National Honor Society is a nationally recognized,
The National Honor Society is reputably known for its high standards. Those that are accepted to this esteem society are rewarded with several possibilities with the added benefit of just being part of this respected club. Therefore, I am honored to be a member of the National Honor Society. Nevertheless, I intend to gain more from this club than just being an idle member. Thus, I decided that I want to take a more crucial and demanding role by being the President of D.M. Therrell High School National Honor Society Club. Besides enhancing my leadership skills, I believe that being the president will allow me to broadcast my countless ideas that I believe will benefit not just our club, but the whole Therrell Panther community. As a trilingual
I am honored to be among the many students who are being considered for the National Honor Society. I believe that this organization does amazing things not just for the students at Harrison Community Schools but for everyone in the community and the surrounding communities. I hope to be a part of furthering the impressions that this organization has set among the public. I strive to be apart of NHS and the positive changes they inflict on many lives because I have worked hard to get to this point. Leadership, Character and Service have brought me far in life therefore they are my strength to evolve into positive changes that better everyone.
I was one of the students who were rejected by National Honors Society Council during this year's selection. I would like to appeal to my rejection because I believe I am a great leader in many aspects of my life. For example, I used to be the co-leader of the preteens of my church. Because I am musically inclined, I focused more on the musical part of the group, such as weekly practices that led into our selections sang on Sunday nights. Throughout my position, I was put into a place in which I had to take over the group because the leader was going through a hard time and was slowly leaving the responsibility to me altogether. Until she decided to come back, I gave Bible School lessons, practiced the preteens every week,
The National Honor Society is one of the most rewarding achievements a high school student can receive. The name itself represents all the pillars of honor that one hopes to achieve in their life. To be a member of Gradus Honoris is a position many students, including myself, strive towards, however, it is more than an envious position. To be a member represents academic excellence and hard work. A member must be a role model to underclassmen, to show them all the positives of being a dedicated and respectful individual, as well as upholding a sense of integrity. Members represent kindness and patience, with the intent of educating and helping other students so that they may be on track to academic excellence as well. A member is the cream
On Oct. 21, students were selected to be in National Honor Society during a “tapping” ceremony at the high school. Almost all of the students and staff at GHV are in attendance of the ceremony and act as onlookers. During this ceremony, students who are either juniors or seniors meeting the NHS requirements and having submitted an application wait in anticipation as current members walk around the auditorium delivering paper slips of admission.
I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to pursue my love of performing arts in a safe, creative and accepting environment. Therefore, through my time and influence, I want to give back to my school and community. Every day I strive to share my positivity, humor and thoughtfulness with my peers. I would be excited to be able to help others with a group of like-minded people in the Performing Arts Academy’s National Honor Society. If inducted, I will be an extremely involved and necessary leader in the organization. I will use my strengths in leadership, conflict resolution and compassion to move the National Honor Society forward through scholarship and service.
Thank you for my invitation to be a member of the Horseheads Chapter of the National Honor Society; I consider it a tremendous honor. It motivates me to continue to excel and succeed in my education and in life. I believe that I have exceptional character, as well as a satisfactory service history. I admit that my leadership qualities need work, but my exposure to others in the National Honor Society will help. I trust that I would be an excellent inductee to the National Honor Society, since I always strive to be the best person that I can be and commit 110 percent into all my obligations.
They have recently built a Career and Technology Center next to the high school. Fairfield Central High School have received new textbooks this year in almost every class. This past week the cheerleaders and the staff from Fairfield Central helped raise money for our coach’s wife has cancer. We decided to sell bracelets and these papers called paws. We sold the paws and bracelets at school, but we just sold the bracelets at the game. I do not know exactly much money we made but I’m pretty sure it was a lot. That shows that Fairfield is very wealthy and will do anything for a good cause.
this whole event was for. It turned out to be for True Tigers, an organization I was completely unaware about. I went up to the join here tent and asked the lady to just explain it all to me. Supposedly you sign up to be a True Tiger and pay a fee every month in order to be part of this network of students under a chapter of the Mizzou Alumni Association. Those who are part of this network carry out the mission of carrying out and honoring Mizzou’s most cherished traditions. Most people become a True Tiger as a way to create relationships with alumni and attended various private events. The most interesting thing I found out was if you are a True Tiger you get discounts from tons of places on campus (list of discounts are in this folder). This
The Annual Fund at Cal Poly Pomona plays a pivotal role in the advancement of our university. With our national economic crisis and massive state budget cuts, over the last seven years support from the state toward it’s universities has drastically decreased and now only accounts for one third of Cal Poly Pomona’s entire budget. The other two thirds university funds comes from tuition and private support. The Annual Fund is a segment of university advancement and consists of 34 student callers, a phonathon coordinator, assistant and Director of Leadership Annual Giving.
