I have given quite a few speeches in the last few years, even at such a young age. Though I was proficient when I started this class, I have improved even more in these last six weeks. My strengths definitely fall in my organization and content. However in my delivery I often lack in vocal variety and volume, mostly due to nerves, and I often rush my conclusions. Due to the officer rank I have in organizations like the National Honor Society, I will regularly have to speak in public or address my peers, so I plan on continuing to practice for my speeches out loud and hopefully I will progress. Due to my previous experience and my class knowledge in public speaking, I know my strengths vary. As a communicator, I excel in bring out an interesting
Alexander H. Stephen, in the ‘Cornerstone Speech’, firmly stated that, the Confederacy was basically on racial inequality and slavery. He clearly outlined the existing differences between the new nation and the American United States. Stephen made it clear that, the Confederacy of the cornerstone was not primarily of chattel slavery, but the black people subordination benefited the white people. Thus, he tied slavery to race. Confederacy was the origin of the era of apartheid in South Africa. Stephen made declarations that the new government was founded on the great truth , that the negro was not equal on the side of the white people and that, slavery which was to be a subordination to the white race which was superior, was a normal and a natural condition. Stephen criticized the claims of the northern that, African enslavement was a law violation nature and that it was a wrong principle, morally, politically and socially. He clearly put across that his new government had an idea which was exactly different from the northern claims. He argued that, it was a kind of insanity to believe that the Negro will be equal between the white and black people and also that, enslaving the blacks was wrong. He made predictions that, the Confederate constitution has settled all the questions relating to the African slavery which existed among the white people. Stephen’s arguments led to the outbreak of the civil war in 1865 (The Teaching AmericanHistory.org, 2017).
Good evening Yucaipa high school graduates, friends, family, staff, school board members, and administration. I'm honored to be the class speaker of the Yucaipa high school graduating class of 2017! Tonight I will be sharing different events from my life that have impacted me the most and that inspire me, as I hope they will inspire you. Although before I start I want to give a huge shout out to my best friend/sister Haley Hillrich because without her I don’t think I would be up here tonight. Now lets get started so we can officially graduate.
Students are often afraid to present their incredible ideas and bring them forth to the table and I want to be a voice for those students. I have strong public speaking skills which allow me to communicate easily with students. These communication skills are beneficial because I can gather different ideas from students and I can come
A convocation is a special gathering of a group of individuals formally assembled for a special purpose. North Carolina A&T’s Fall Convocation was an assembling for academic and athletic recognition that brought great encouragement. The great speaker gave vital information regarding tactics to push toward success for students and teachers. Dr. Anthony Graham’s great motto, “Keep your hand in the plow, hold on,” is very impactful and has great meaning, encouraging you to reach your set goals.
May it please the court? The founding fathers built this country upon not only the foundation of Freedom of Religion but, also upon the laws that government can not make laws establishing a religion as head of the country. Under this First Amendment protection all human kind can practice any religion of their choice without the invasion of government and/or community action just as all humans can also choose to not practice any religion at all. This is one so case; Mr. and Mrs. Roes attended their sons high school graduation on June 5, 2014 during which a speech was given by Ms. Abernathy the speech was said as follows “And so I invite you to pray with me. Father, son, and Holy Spirit… you are a wise God, oh lord, as evidenced even in the plan of redemption that is
On October 28th, 2015, Lone Star College of Kingwood hosted an event called the human library. It was held on campus for students who were interested to participate. The human library was created for students to gain knowledge of obstacles individuals experienced in life, such as living in the south as a black woman in the 1950’s, being homeless, and being a religion that is frowned upon in society. The purpose of the event is to teach students about other cultures, social classes, and hardship. The speakers inform our generation their own personal experience rather than information in a text book.
While the achievements I’ve earned are valuable, what I have learned from this process is significant. I’ve learned how to act in a professional environment and how to be a quality competitor in not just Speech, but in all my activities. Furthermore, I have acquired the ability to digest and comprehend criticism. As well as giving me the opportunity to be a leader on my team, Speech has also taught me to be a leader amongst my peers. To me, Speech is more than a place to excel in speaking, it is where I have gained knowledge and skills that will assist me in my future
Last Friday, Serene State University celebrated it commencement ceremony. The event attendance broke university records with 832 graduates, with about 350 of them being first-generation college graduates. The total number of assistance reach 6,873 people.
I am fairly nervous for my speech today because I didn’t get to prepare as well as I would have liked. I got called into work last night and had to work with a new person and they had no clue how to do anything, so not only did I have to train them, but I didn’t get to practice my speech as much as I would have liked. I almost guarantee I’m going to talk too fast and not make the time limit. I’m also a little apprehensive just because of the type of speech this is, and I have never actually done a toast before. I have spoken in front of many people before at a ceremony in my high school, because I was a board member in National Honor Society. I had to speak on behalf of my fellow members and honor the new inductees. I am really hoping, and
Lyndon Johnson was convinced that liberal nationalism and the power of the federal government could transform society. His faith grew out of his youthful experiences with poverty in Texas, his political apprenticeship during the New Deal, and his desire to surpass Roosevelt's legacy. When he took office in November 1963, after John F. Kennedy's death, Johnson inherited the early initiatives to address poverty that the Kennedy administration had under consideration. With characteristic enthusiasm and expansiveness, Johnson declared a war on poverty in 1964 and pushed legislation through Congress to establish the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO).In this speech, the purpose Lyndon B. Johnson outlines his vision and goals for "The Great
They came, they saw, and the conquered (some what). Last weekend, February 17th, the Westminster College Speech and debate team braved the cold wind and snow and traveled to Bloomsburg University to compete in the State championship tournament for Forensics.
In my opinion, through joining National English Honour Society, I may be able to gain a creative outlet in the subject I am passionate about. My greatest passion is learning new things, and exploring areas that interest me. Furthermore, meeting others that have the same passion for English would be enjoyable. Through this society, I would love to explore and help the community by reading to children, or doing community service related to English. I would love to tutor and help others who struggle in English, since I was not always a strong writer. Most of all however, my goal is to inspire others to have the same passion as I do in learning, even if they find it in another subject area.
“My strengths was speech in general because I like to talk I know how to talk and hold a beneficial conversation my weakness was maybe the presentation of it all because maybe it was my first time presenting a portfolio sort of like a resume type situation” - Donetta Bess
To my fellow congress men. As I stand before you today, I have nothing but sorrow in my heart and a determination in mind. Over the past years, it has not been silent, but an issue that has been raised within the public. Leaders, people for many generations will say “they stood up for the rights of people others were against”. People of colour, in the South, did not get treated with respect, if anything they were being treated of a much less race.
I have shown huge improvements on delivering speeches. This process helped me to understand different kinds of speech and their expectations. The only way I can think of improving is that to get myself be confortable and to do more preparations. Therefore, the mistakes I made in this will help me to improve on the next
