National ID Card
There has been much discussion over the issue of a national ID card. Can it guarantee national security? Can it even improve the current state of security in the US? Is implementation feasible? Is it an invasion of privacy? These are just a few of the questions that surround the issue of a national ID. The scene that the NID evokes in me is from the movies of the forties and fifties. The security officials from some eastern European country move from passenger to passenger in a train demanding “Papers please.” The US citizenry have never been subject to that kind of open scrutiny before and it is disturbing to contemplate the implementation of such a draconian system.

The lab that tested the city water supply detected radioactive contaminants. After two weeks without running water of any kind the city found out that a lab technician hadn’t properly washed the glassware before testing the drinking water sample. The tech. was careless, but what if the error was intentional? The same tech. could “miss read” the bacteria count in the sample and allow contaminated water to be pumped into homes. Under the current system the work to create an identity that would put a terrorist in place to be the careless tech. is not imposable but it takes considerable resources and time. Some of the 9-11 terrorists spent years building just such covers. With the NID system one card is all that is necessary. Corrupt a single card and your testing water in Golden CO.. A single peace of plastic puts you behind the wheel of a tanker hauling sulfuric acid.
The question of whether a card could be corrupted falls into the implementation category, which leads us back to travelers swiping their cards at airport security. For the comparison (between the biometric data collected onsite and the records of the individual) to carry any weight the infrastructure that supports it must be sound. If the biometric data resides on the card itself even with the highest degree of encryption it is as vulnerable as your little brothers piggy bank. The one time tablet encryption is one of the most secure
Voter ID laws in the United States have begun to create controversy since the beginning of its adaptations in the early 2000’s. Voter ID laws in the United States is a law that requires U.S. citizens to have a special form of identification in order to vote in an election. The idea with Voter ID laws is that the state must make sure that the laws do not pose any sort of burden on the voters. These laws have been proposed in order to stop voting fraud. However, the institution of Voter ID laws have made trouble in states, including Texas, regarding to the various amount of identification requirements needed.
On Monday night, the Denver city council passed an immigration ordinance that forbids city officials from asking about anyone’s immigration status or requiring anyone to discuss it. This law makes it difficult for the federal government to track and arrest immigrants. As a result, people have become fearful that these immigrants will cause harm to the public through robberies and murders. Many people are afraid of the unknown and seeing the kind of damage immigrants have done in the past, it automatically makes people assume that every immigrant is the same. For example, the field director of ICE made a statement that “this irresponsible ordinance...deliberately obstructs our country’s lawful immigration
There is no doubt that the attacks on 9/11 caused Congress to pass the Real ID Act in order to prevent foreign nationals from fraudulently obtaining a U.S. driver’s license. Congress said the Real ID Act is about security, not stigmas. The law was intended to set principles for states that issue licenses and to procure acceptable documents. However, due to budgets, there are not enough resources to verify the accuracy of these documents from foreign countries. This is based solely on three 9/11 hijackers being able to obtain state identification cards while using fictitious documents. In total, thirty three hijackers acquired state driver’s licenses. Unfortunately, stern stipulations have gradually decreased due to several states and local governments allowing Identification cards to be issued without distinguishing from an authentic driver’s license (Jeunesse, 2015).
If you were to buy a fresh pair of Nike's from a street vendor and when you get home, the `N' falls off uncovering an `S', do you still consider them Nike's? Honestly, look at what they really are. They are Sike's. No matter how hard they try to be Nike's, they will always be Sike's. You can cover the `S' with an `N' but can you ever really replace the `S'? No, you can not, so why should an illegal immigrant gain American citizenship rights just because they were born in America?
While the main purpose for voter ID is to eliminate fraud and corruption in the American voting system, it has brought with it consequences that discourage and even prohibit eligible voters to vote. The 2012 election, a vast number of state required a government-issued photo ID. Even the state Indiana required this even though “state GOP officials couldn 't provide a single instance of a voter committing the type of fraud the new ID law was supposed to stop” (Berman). Surprisingly, in Wisconsin, they will only except ID’s containing “a current address, birth date, signature and two-year expiration date” that so far
Many people believe that the law will help reduce voter fraud. In our day-to-day lives identification is required as a security measure. We are required to provide identification for simple things such as cashing a check, boarding a plane, and picking up a prescription. These identification requirements are legitimate
The purpose of ID NYC was to provide a legal government issued identification for every New Yorker that includes benefits. Anyone can receive this municipal ID by only providing a New York City residents address. It does not require any other forms of identification or proof of citizenship. Thus it was highly praised by everyone who supports equality among documented and undocumented NYC residents when it was initially introduced. It was implemented to serve the New Yorkers regardless of their immigration status in the United States. But while creating this course of action, policymakers in the City of New York should have reflected on the consequences ID NYC can bring for some citizens who will acquire it. At the time this policy was created, the ramification of it was not taken into consideration. In this proposed policy reform proposal a specific reform will be discussed to make the ID NYC better for everyone and for the future generation.
I am writing this essay about the importance of a Common Access Card. Which is also known as a “CAC” card. The Common Access Card (CAC) is a United States Deparrtment of Defense (DoD) Smart Card. The card is issued to Active-duty Military Personnel, Reserve Personnel, Civilian Personnel, state employees of the National Guard, contractor personnel, and other non-DoD government employees. The CAC is the size of a standard credit card and stores 64 or 128 kB of data storage and memory on a single integrated circuit. The CAC is used as a general identification card as well as for authentication to enable access to DoD computers, networks, and certain DoD facilities. It also
Total inhalation of immigration would not be a healthy choice for the United States. However, setting out for stricter laws to become a citizen is in need. There are over 11.7 million illegal immigrants in the United States (poll 2011). Therefore, having restrictions on immigration overall can help the economy grow, security at airports, docs, borders, and on the streets would not only lessen the illegal immigrants around the country, but supply more jobs for Americans. Illegal immigrants not only live in the U.S, but are supplied jobs in which were made for American workers.
National Identification Card (NID) is not a new idea to the American Public or its politicians. The NID has been up and down the political stream as a means of fighting terrorism, welfare fraud, illegal immigration, crime, census “error”, and a vast variety of other so called crimes that you can think of. The NID once again rising up-stream after the terrible attack on the American soil as (again) the means to protect the American Public but is it capable of doing all it claims to or as a matter of facts it will make us more vulnerable to identity theft and more chaos?
To be an American is to have traits of freedom the thing that the founding fathers counted on is to have the will to speak freely and to have the will of religion in the constitution it say that every citizen should have life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. This impacts and brings everyone from different places to help create a society that is free. The founding fathers also counted for the people to speak for what is right. The reason is because this helps out on what the people want instead of the government wants this goes to show that the people matter and that is what makes a person happy and also makes a person feel like they have the pursuit to be happy.
All my life, my mother and father has told me how hard it has been to support our families in Vietnam. The economy from here to there is so horrible that we have to support them. We're always sending at least about a million in Vietnamese money which is equal to about a hundred in American money due to the currency between America and Vietnam. Because of these two reasons, I am in favor of having better immigration process for people who come outside the US.
By definition “Identity theft n. the dishonest acquisition of personal information in order to perpetrate fraud, typically by obtaining credit, loans, etc., in someone else's name; fraud perpetrated in this way. ” (dictionary.oed.com, 2007). It’s estimated that 9 million Americans have had their identities stolen each year. “According to the Secret Service, its investigations show a jump in potential losses due to identity theft, from $851 million in 1998 to $1.4 billion in 2000.” add citation from how stuff works There are many ways that thieve steal your identity, they may go through your trash, steal your wallet or purse. I will discuss a lot of the different ways in more
The internet has become a part of every day life, in fact for many it is their life. You can meet other people, play games, do research, communicate with loved ones half way across the country, and now you can even shop and bank online.
The world’s major credit card companies are using finger scanning devices to protect credit card information and save the consumer from credit card fraud. Walt Disney World in Orlando has implemented a hand scanning system to prevent people from
