One important activity on the list, is being involved in the National Honors Society. This organization recognizes scholars and well-rounded students in middle and high school. These students better themselves at being active community members and exhibiting profound leadership skills. I have the opportunity to be a part of this nationally known organization.
This organization is important, because of my history with the organization, and also the role that I have had in my school chapter. In the eighth grade, I received my first letter, inviting me to the National Junior Honor Society. Invitees had to write an essay on why the membership would be important; eventually a selected number of honorees would be chosen. I was not selected as a new member for the society.
My first year in high school, I got another letter, inviting me to become a member. I again, wrote an essay to convince the society that I should be a member. I did not have the chance, I was denied. Next year, I received another invitation. After being denied twice, I was discouraged. I was unsure on whether I wanted to try to persuade the organization that I was indeed an asset. This time I took a different approach. I wrote from the heart, and decided not to put down what I thought they would want to hear. I just let the words come, and answered the essay

My first year in the society, I stayed in the background, meaning I just went to the meetings and the community service opportunities. After a year of doing this, I decided that it was not enough. In my junior year of high school, I wanted to do more with my experience. I ran for presidency of my school chapter, and I was elected the first time around. With this authority I started a special community service project, peer tutoring. This idea was accepted and was soon brought to the student body and adopted into the school
First, I believe that my involvement with the National Junior Honor Society will help me to prepare my future as a leader. John Maxwell once said that “ a leader is one who knows the way,

Over the past two years (2014-2016) I have participated in the National Junior Honors Society. I would like to become an active member of Carrboro High School National Honor Society, because I am looking forward to the opportunity to serve and improve the community with other like-minded students. I believe it is important to balance academics, athletics, and community service. For example, this year I am taking 5 AP classes, running cross-country and track, and have spent almost 150 hours volunteering in the community. The first time I volunteered was when I raised a diabetic alert dog with my family. Even though I was sad to see the dog I had raised go, it was a rewarding experience because I knew that the dog would help someone have a better life. Anytime I can find an opportunity to both improve myself and the community, I won’t hesitate to seize it. I found the opportunity to do just that at both Shodor and CHCCS Project Graduation.

I deserve to be a member of the National Honor Society because I feel like I’ve earned it. Over my high school career, I have been through many challenges, but I learned to face them head on with a positive attitude knowing how good the outcome can be. I fit the qualifications to be a member and if I do not fulfill them to a certain level, I will work on how to reach them. Throughout my school education, I’ve always tried my best, even more so in high school. I hold myself up to a very high expectation, I know I can always do better than before. As for volunteering, I am always involved in my community as much as I can. As a child, I was involved in many programs and I continue to do service work with more benefits to my future and character

National Junior Honor Society will be a great opportunity for me. If I am accepted into NJHS I plan on keeping up my 4.0 average, balancing between school and outside of school activities, continuing to help my community/peers, and creating a specific idea to make a positive impact at the school. The next 3 paragraphs I will be stating why I will be a great member of NJHS, why it's good to help people, and something I could do to positively impact my school.
