Introduction:
As observed in history, nationalism is an ideology and movement that has been rather a very powerful force within world politics. Categorised as one of the causational forces of war and conflict, nationalism has been used both positively and negatively to change the running of international affairs and politics. Yet with liberal ideology of globalisation, the world hoped for an era free of ethnic dissents and national conflicts as ethnicity and nationalism were being quickly archaic (Kaldor, 2004). However, Smith (1998), explains national sentiments and its formation in a rather generation series, by exploring the various aspects nationalism summoned upon with every historical and centuries turn. Early generation of nationalism precedes in a trend relatable to a more realistic perspective of states, as emerging in a glorification movement to create a unified front towards armed war against another nation. Nationalism then was said to be rather liberating and inclusive of all groups of ethnicities within a state. However, with the rise of liberal ideologies and the concept of democracy, nationalism turned to a more social factorial of culture and language identities giving rise to minor nationalist sentiments and smaller imagined national communities within a larger democratic national community.
Though, globalisation the geo-eco political phenomena that constituted the liberal ideal of a global community- free of borders, unrestricted movement of people, free movement of goods and services and essentially the concept of global interdependency, has been seen to help create an imagined community that constituted to the global platform and ultimately eradicate the uprise of national sentiments. Globalisation is considered a rather universal instrument, that behaves as an umbrella that hold the ideal of the liberalist school and acts as a constant definition to the trend of today’s world.
