Natural highs always come to every single person in their lifetime and they stick with that mostly the rest of their lives. For me, a definition of a natural high is that it is something a person loves doing so much that in a way they get high. My natural high was found early in my life at the age of four; it was swimming. I still remember the first time I met the pool; it was an inflatable tube pool that was about 5 feet deep and I was learning to swim. I was so happy that I tried my hardest to be better and to become stronger. It was an amazing experience to be in the pool no matter how cold it was, and just swimming. These are the memories I still carry with me. Swimming was just amazing and it still is. It’s ataractic when taking it easy and it gives you a challenge when you are working hard, exactly like life. The bigger splash you make, the …show more content…
Even though it is an inanimate object, it still looks like it’s alive and breathing, providing a sense of protection and pure relaxation. Swimming gives you a complete exercise, and it also calms you by the heat and the waves slowly rising and falling. Swimming has helped me live a fulfilling life because it helps me think clearly and productively. I develop goals better, it helps me see the good in my friends, and it lets me ignore the bad things around me because I am too busy moving my arms. I dearly hope that I will be able to swim as a career and to gain a scholarship from a college; for that hard work is required. Some people, as far as I have seen, have no idea of what hard work truly is, and don’t even know how to provide for themselves. It truly saddens me. Swimming has taught me, in its own way, to just go with the flow in life and to just remember when you have to go hard and when you have to relax. The pool is more than a place to swim; if a person listens closely, it could provide advice and bring happiness and energy to the routine of daily
Hi Teagen! I agree with the idea that the expansion of suffrage to non-propertied white males in the 1820s and 1830s was an advancement in American political life. I found in the book that through the westward expansion, most of the new states in America allowed all white males to vote at the age of 21 (Faragher, 258). Also before 1800 only white males that owned property or were taxpayers could vote in most of the original thirteen states (Faragher, 257). This was important because it led to the presidential electors and governors to be elected by a direct vote of men from all classes, rather than by small groups of state legislators (Faragher, 258). I agree that this lead to delaying suffrage of white women and African Americans. This contradicts
Every city has that one basketball game that everyone goes to. The game that brings the crowd to their feet. That one game that brings thousands of people to the audience, and leave them with something to talk about for the remainder of their lives. Saginaw High vs Arthur Hill boys basketball game is filled with people from all over the state, filled with future NBA players and lots of drama. Saginaw High is located in the poorest and the most dangerous parts of Saginaw,Mi. Just imagine a neighborhood with only three houses on each block and sounds like Fourth of July firecrackers going off every night knowing someone just died. So every year, Saginaw
Madera High is an ordinary high school in a fairly small town of about 60,000 people. Although the usual picture of bullying portrayed in the media does not occur here, there are still other forms of bullying and harassment that happen often. Cyberbullying has become the new form of harassment that teens use to bully other students. Social media is now the platform bullies prefer to use rather than the physical confrontation that bullying used to be. Through recent years, it has become an epidemic that has taken over the internet and social networks. It has made it even harder for students to get away from the bully or the person harassing them. At Madera High the amount of bullying seen at school by other students and staff is fairly low,
Located in the Panhandle of Nebraska is a national park call the Wildcats that is not well known. It isn’t a piece of land that many would think they would find in Nebraska. Its filled with pine trees as well as your normal grasses you’d find in Nebraska’s prairie lands. The Wildcat Hills is a beautiful escarpment that isn't very well known, is an extremely peaceful atmosphere, and is a wonderful place to escape the city to for a few days.
The school environment was measured by its implementation of the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) approach. SEL is a framework that focuses on resiliency and teaching social and emotional competencies to children and youth (Hong, Espelage, Grogan-Kaylor, and Allen-Meares, 2011). Specifically, SEL uses social skill instruction to address behavior, discipline, safety, and academics to help students become self-aware, manage their emotions, build social skills, and make positive decisions. A meta-analytic study of more than 213 maltreatment intervention programs found that SEL-implementing schools could expect better student behavior and an 11-point increase in standardized test scores (Durlak, Weissberg, Dymnicki, Taylor, and Schellinger, 2011). The affluent school with abundant resources implemented SEL to promote resiliency. The less-affluent school with limited resourced did not implement SEL; therefore, its students did not have access to any resiliency
I’ve been going to the same summer camp for six years and most years we canoe out to High Island, which is about a mile away from the camp, or a 45 minute paddle. I’ve never had much luck going out to the island. One year it was so windy we had to stop at a town dock and be driven back to camp because the winds were so strong, and the water was so choppy. Another year my canoe was dented, which dramatically affected the tracking so we had to be tied to a counselor's canoe and brought back to camp. With the strong memories of those trips I was worried when my counselor in training program required a three day camping trip to High Island, meaning a canoe trip out with lots of supplies.
Stop, right now, think of the last time you went swimming, think of how many times you've gone swimming, how high is that number? It's engraved into our lives, not only is it a fun way to relax, but swimming is a survival skill needed for many species to use in their lives. Swimming is part of nature, almost every living species has a natural instinct of how to swim right from birth, but humans don't, why do you think that is? Over the years, swimming from a competition stand-point has advanced and changed along with technology. My goal is to learn about: the regulations of competition swimming (rules and strokes), the technological advances that are pushing athletes to go beyond old records, and what is happening with swimming in your neighborhood.
Analysis of NHANES data on the subject of US trends in prevalence, alertness, treatment and control of HTN from 1988 to 2008 was reported very recently.21 Prevalence of HTN increased over time in men but not women and in general was not significantly different between men and women. HTN awareness increased with time in men but not women; however, it was greater in women than
Thesis/main topic – Learning how to swim is essential for being around water, it will help strengthen a person confidence, improve your physical fitness, and provide an area for stress release.
Most people believe that the most efficient and effective way to lose weight is either by jogging or running. They think this because running is done on land, involves very hard movements of the arms and legs, and their heart rates are going at 5 beats per second. People always seem to forget that a better, easier and less vigorous way to get fit is through swimming. Swimming is moving your body through a body of water, either a pool or ocean, using your arms and legs, while running is moving quickly on land with your feet. Swimming is not a natural act but a learned talent. According to Dr. Howard Wainer, a swimmer and statistician at the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, N.J., the human body was not meant to move quickly through water (NY Times, Gina Kolata). Swimming is better than running because it gives the body a good workout without over working, it has very good benefits on the body and an ideal workout for people with certain health problems, it improves mental health and burns calories, it doesn’t have so much negative effects as opposed to running. Swimmers swim better than they run and runners can’t swim at all and unlike some other sports, swimming is not taken as seriously as it should.

First, I want to tell you about my natural high. My name is Charlotte and my natural high is acting. Acting is a very special part in my life that I have been developing for almost a year now. Acting is all about singing, dancing, and memorizing countless lines! It’s a very fun thing to do and it takes lots of commitment! Singing is also a natural high of mine. Singing takes work and coaching, however you can’t really get into singing until your voice develops (around the age of twelve or thirteen). Anybody can have a natural high. Maybe yours is soccer, or maybe it's something as simple as playing jump rope. Your natural high keeps you going and motivated to stay away from drugs.
Primarily, swimming has excellent health benefits. Swimming is such an amazing sport to help manage weight. One can burn up to 367 calories after just 30 minutes of relaxed breastroke. Believe it or not, that beats walking, cycling, and even running. Swimming is a full body workout. From the moment you dive into the pool to begin swimming laps, every muscle in your bod is challenged. Butterfly, backstroke, breastroke, and freestyle are using all the muscles from head to toe. The upper- body muscles that are used include the pectorals, deltoids, biceps, triceps, and wrist flexors. The lower- body muscles include the calves, quads, hamstrings, and glutes. Having strong muscles doesn’t just have cosmetic benefits. Having strong muscles help control weight, avoid chronic health conditions, and build a strong heart. Swimming does not only affect
