When we looking at the lipstick, the primary ingredients we are going to found are wax, oil, pigment, dyes, alcohol, fragrance, preservatives, and antioxidants. Wax enable the mixture to be formed into the easily recognized shape of the cosmetic. Wax is usually the combination of three type of waxes — Beeswax, Candelilla wax, and Camauba wax. Beeswax is a natural wax produces by honey bees. Candelilla wax is wax derive from the leaves of the small Candelilla shrub native to northern Mexico and the southwestern United States. Camauba wax is wax of the leaves of the palm Copernicia prunifera, a plant grown only in the northeastern Brazilian. Also known as “queen of waxes”. Oils such as mineral, caster, lanolin, or vegetable are added to the wax to help mixture formed into the easily recognized shape of the cosmetic. Mineral oils is usually distillation of petroleum. Caster oils is a vegetable oil obtain by pressing the seeds of the caster oil plant and it is indigenous to the southeastern Mediterranean basin, eastern Africa, and India. Sheep are the only source of lanolin oil. A sheep gets sheared once yearly and provides about 10 pounds of wool annually. Lanolin is an amber-colored fatty substance taken from the sheep’s wool before it is washed. Vegetable oil is triglyceride extracted from a plant.
