The reason I chose to conduct this study is due to something that hits close to home. I have four children, and I remember that the stages of adolescence for my three older kids were a time of difference. They all had their own individual problems and it was tough for me and it is something that my youngest daughter is currently going through right now. Her behavior has change tremendously, her actions are frustrating, and we can never both come to understand each other anymore. Everyone goes through early adolescence, but how each individual experiences it all differs from one another, so I figured I can do a research study that will help me understand what is going on in this shifting phase in her life. The research I have decided to begin …show more content…
That basically means me doing the primary research myself. If I am going to get a better comprehension of the stages that my children went through and the reasoning behind them I have to do it from a first-person perspective. Now, not only will this benefit me but will also provide a stepping stone for other parents out there who are just as confused or lack full understanding on the development process of their adolescent child. The two particular ways I will propose to study the topic I have chosen is by Naturalistic observation and a …show more content…
The benefit of a cross-sectional study design is that it allows researchers to compare many different variables at the same time (What researchers mean by... cross-sectional vs. longitudinal studies, 2016), for example age Gender and much more. A cross-sectional study breaks down information in section making it easier to fully comprehend. A longitudinal study would have been the best bit but since my daughter is in her last year of the early adolescence stage and, my eldest children past that phase, it would make sense to record in the “moment” of time. Cause and effect relationships through these types of research studies can be understood and seen more clearly. As well as the more data collection over long time periods the better and more concise the results. These studies are high in validity and are great for picking up long-term
My observation locations are Starbucks and restaurant. I chose them as my observation location because those are the places where people normally talk, study, socialize and interact in a casual manner.
During my naturalistic observation, I was at my sister’s softball game at the field behind Bridgeport Middle School. There were two identical twins little girls, who were three years old, playing together in the practice batting cage. In the beginning, they were walking around together, eating popsicles while they watched two other older kids, a boy and a girl most likely around the age range of five to seven, chasing each other. The older kids were playing tag and invited the twins to join them. From their facial expressions, it was obvious they were thrilled to play with them; however they were hesitant to run and chase the older kids. They stood at the starting location and watched as the other kids raced back and forth, and had to move

Each child’s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual and language development will be looked at through age stages. All of these categories are as important as each other and can each have a substantial impact on the child’s full adult potential.
In this paper, I discuss my experience with observing a group counseling session with the purpose of evaluating it in terms of how it is set up, how it is run, interventions used, culturally sensitivity, and the contribution toward my professional development as a social worker. The group setting plays a critical role in social work outside of the individual session and can be largely beneficial for clients in the forms of therapy, counseling, self-help, and support. By attempting to better understand group interventions, I will learn how to apply this strategy in aiding clients for whom this method is appropriate by increasing their social supports.
There are three basic methods a researchers uses to conduct research. The first method is the observational method which is when behavior is closely observed. Now there are two different categories when it comes to the observational method- naturalistic observation and laboratory observation. When doing naturalistic observation the researcher views the participants in their natural environment. Now when doing laboratory observations the participants are viewed in a lab. Researchers have more control in a laboratory. Laboratory observations are more meaningful than those obtained with naturalistic observations. The second method is the case study method which involves an in-depth study of an individual or a group of individuals. When doing the case study method it allows the researchers to investigate a topic in way more detail than might be possible if they were trying to work with a large number of research participants. The last method that researchers use is the survey method. When using the survey method questions are administered through interviews or questionnaires. Case studies allow a researcher to investigate a topic in far more detail than might be possible if they were trying to deal with a large number of research participants.
Naturalistic observation is a research technique involving the observation of people or objects in their natural environments to gather data. When performing a naturalistic observation, it is key for the researcher to remain unavowed to the subject, or the result of the data could be skewed. When conducting a naturalistic observation to study the exercise times of young adult males versus older adult males, a good place to make observations would be at a gym, a popular hiking trail, or in a populated city (ex: downtown Washington, D.C.) where there are large sidewalks and plenty of room for foot traffic. Next, determine the variables. The measurable variables would be determined by witnessing a subject perform some sort of exercise, or any act that raises the heart rate above its natural rhythm on purpose at different times of day (ex: bike riding, running or jogging, roller blading, weight lifting, swimming, etc.). A record is kept regarding the execution of the variables, and after spending a viable amount of time collecting data from the subjects, the results of the study can be concluded. A possible result of the study could be that it is more common for older adult males to exercise early in the morning, while it is more common for younger adult males to exercise late in the evening.
Observation as an approach in a laboratory setting is instantiated quite specifically using the Laboratory Based Observation approach. A variation of single user observation is two-user observation where pairs of users are invited to work together and the above process is carried out on the pair. One of the 'users' in two-user observation may be a member of the design team, and this is particularly useful in situations where there may be an unstable prototype.
Naturalistic observation involves recording subjects' naturally occurring behavior while they are in their natural environment. This experiment revolves around this type of observation. Specifically, it involves the observation of the various human dyads (male-female, male-male, female-female,) social interaction, within in a public environment. Focal points of observation included conversation space (distance between individuals heads,), and body language.
The topic studied in this naturalistic observational research study was called “pick me up.” The purpose of this study was to place a note card on the ground labeled “pick me up” and observe the type of person that picked the card up. The research question was “Which gender will pick up the card more and which gender will react more?” The researchers had three hypotheses: (1) More women will smile when reading the card than men, (2) More men than women will notice the card and continue walking, and (3) More men than women will notice the card.
In order to study human development and perform naturalistic observation I went to the mall. I selected a 9-year-old white girl as the subject for my observation. I observed the subject for 30 minutes. During my observation the subject was not interrupted and was not aware of my study.
This paper is going to describe the behavioral and cognitive traits that can be inferred from that behavior of a two year old child that I observed in the park as she was playing with her mother. The child that I observed is a girl, has blonde hair and is physically well-developed for her age. She is around two, weighs approximately twenty (20) pounds and is about two (2) feet tall.
Observational research is type of correlational (i.e., nonexperimental) research in which a researcher observes ongoing behavior. There are a variety of types of observational research, each of which has both strengths and weaknesses. These types are organized below by the extent to which an experimenter intrudes upon or controls the environment.
I observed a classroom of four-year-old students who are enrolled at the Child Development Center on the George Mason University campus. This observation lasted about fifteen minutes with a total of twelve students in the classroom. At the time of my observation the students were engaging in free playtime where they are allowed to play games, make crafts, and interact with their fellow classmates. I was seated in the corner of the classroom where the children could not easily see me or get distracted by me. I stayed seated throughout the whole observation so the students would not be affected by my presence. Many different activities were happening at the same time, but a couple standout situations reminded me of many subject areas we
My practicum took place on September 7,2016 from nine thirty to ten thirty. The practicum took place at Impact Early College High School in Baytown. The class I observed was Ms. Nguyen’s class of juniors and seniors that contained twenty students, seven boys and thirteen girls. The class appeared to be alert and ready to learn. Since this was their second period class they already had enough time to shake off their fatigue. The subject was Pre-Calculous and the topic was operations of functions. Students entered the classroom in a calm manner and socialized until it was time to start class. The teacher instructed the students to take their seats and take five minutes to write their assignments into their academic calendar. The teacher went
