Abstract
This extended essay explores the question ‘to what extent does nature and nurture influence intelligence in child development’. Nature in this context is the inborn hereditary characteristics, as well as your genes; and nurture is the environment you’re in, how what is around you affects your personally.

The essay starts with the introduction over viewing what I’m going to look at and important definitions and reasons of why I’ve chosen the question. I’m going to look at a brief history of the debate, seeing what views they had and why. Furth more, I then go into both a paragraph on how nature and the genes you inherit influence intelligence and through nurture and caring can improve intelligence, looking at specific studies to show both theories.

The debate of whether nature vs nurture can have an impact on intelligence is the question even every day people want to know. Many psychologists have long been looking for an answer. A lot of research has gone into this topic, studying different cultures, also strategies to learning from example Helen Nevilles sure start schemes, giving a child just a small amount of education at a young age. I selected varied sources but mostly from the internet to research case studies and I also used JSTOR to find the research papers and to consolidate the information I found.

In my conclusion I found that it is hard to accredit either nature or nurture that influences intelligence, it’s not hard to say they both do. In my own…
