Life changing experiences through extracurricular activities have given me the opportunity to discover my passion for leadership and service. Prominently my initial experiences while volunteering for Civil Air Patrol have shown me a life dedicated to service is unmeasurably rewarding especially when given the opportunity to lead your peers. Mentoring my followers and learning from their experiences have been so remarkable and rewarding. Deciding to pursue opportunities to lead and serve, the possibility of serving the United States of America as a commissioned officer was perfect. The idea of becoming a professional leader and warrior defending the nation and the ideals behind it would be a dream come true. Seeing the path of an officer fit my goals flawlessly, an education provided by service academy was severely …show more content…
Attending outreach programs locally and then traveling to the Naval Academy to attend NASS, not only showed me how naval service will fulfill my passions but also how the Naval Academy will prepare me for a future full of opportunity to lead and serve. Nearly every midshipmen and a naval officer I met impressed me with their leadership qualities and dedication to service. These men and women showed to me how the Naval Academy can give me the opportunity to grow into the best leader - my biggest goal - in the world’s greatest Navy. I understand admittance to the Naval Academy is accepting that dedication to a lifetime of service in and out of the Navy. And that’s exactly what I want to dedicate my life too. Additionally, coming from a single-parent household living off of public assistance I’ve learned to value the opportunity our nation provides for its citizens. I know I can make meaningful contributions as a commissioned officer and I want to take advantage of every opportunity to not only improve myself but also defend my nation and the opportunities it
The personal experiences I have had along the way have aided in shaping my character. For example, this year I had the privilege of being elected to the board of my school’s National French Honor Society. Our induction ceremony for new members was taking place and much preparation had to be done in a short amount of time. As a new board member, I took charge and made sure every detail of the ceremony was perfect. From decorations, food, audio and video, I did it all. My teacher and head of the honor society was very impressed by my leadership and “take charge” approach that she appointed me the new President of the French Honor Society for the 2015-2016 school years. That event allowed me to see my true potential as someone who works well with others as a leader, and my ability to work under pressure to achieve results. I have always strived to be the best I can be and excel at whatever task I set out to do. By having the opportunity to attend The United States Naval Academy, it would allow me to continue to challenge myself academically as well as strengthen my leadership and discipline. I would also be honored to serve my country as an officer, giving back to this great country that has been so good to me and my family for generations. All of my life I have been told that I am a very determined individual with a strong presence and desire to lead. It only seems right that I further develop myself
I chose the Coast Guard for my military choice. The Coast Guard was established on August 4, 1790. The Coast Guard has a large difference compared to other military branches, the Coast Guard is directly related to Homeland Security, which means they also protect and look out for attacks and terrorism attempts against the country. There are many different careers inside the Coast Guard such as pilot, flight crew, medical staff, navel officers and many more. The career I would be most interested in would be a navel officer. Their main jobs are to control the rest of the crew on deck. The Coast Guard is in charge of the safety of the coast and the guarding all of the waters surrounding us. Anyone attempting to join Coast Guard must be able to
I want to attend the Air Force Academy so I can further my education and enhance my leadership capabilities for the Air Force. The Academy’s strenuous training and academics will equip me with the necessary skills and experiences to lead, plan, and execute the highly important missions of the military. I possess a mindset of determination and selfishness, necessary to handling the rigorous curriculum and adversity of the Academy. The school will push me beyond my comfort zones and throw many obstacles my way, forcing me to adapt and over come on a more challenging level. The Academy will take and mold me into a young and diverse leader of tomorrow’s generation of armed forces. I yearn at the chance to be a leader amongst team-members, display
November 10, 1775, Tun Tavern Philadelphia, PA. This was the original birthplace of the strongest branch of military on earth, the Marines. The Marines have been the backbone of the military and of America since for hundreds of years. I believe the Marines have been around in other forms under different names since roman times. The Marines
The Marine corps officially made in 1775 november 10th after the efforts to join the revolutionary war by recruiting men in tun tavern congress saw their efforts and help with approving them to join and officially named them the united states marines. Seaman High School has many policies that keep its students in check and ready for the everyday life outside of it. The rule that I find non-beneficial to its students is, the parking fee it charges us who drive to school. Money that the school obtains from this fee isn’t used beneficially for its students in the correct way; for example, every winter when we have a heavy output of snow or ice on the ground, nothing is done to the parking lots, to ensure student safety. A parking fee should be used for the up keep and safety level of the parking lot. So, why should we have to pay a fee to drive to school when it isn’t used to benefit us? For this reason, our school should do away with a parking fee, if we are to be charged to park here, then
Coast Guard Petty Officer Stephen Lehmann said the location of the boat prompted searchers to recalculate their plans, the Palm Beach Sun Sentinel reported.
Members of the U.S Coast Guard use patrol boats, cutters, and aircraft to watch over certain areas in the sky or sea (Noble 224-225). Thinking about U.S Coast Guarding? What would it be like doing certain missions like searching and rescuing for someone who is missing at sea? Well to some coast guarding looks like a very interesting and yet surprising career to choose. One of the most important aspects of pursuing this career is having required knowledge. The four main things that include required knowledge are rates and ranks, chain of command, eleven general orders, and daily knowledge or information. Those who are really good at swimming and problem solving will definitely fit this career. U.S Coast Guarding has many important skills and responsibilities involved such as training, missions, and safety. According to Christine Duffy “The Coast Guard is engaged in many
The United States Service Academies are unique institutions that prepare students for their highest potential and instill many valuable characteristics. This being said, students who attend academies are pushed to succeed academically and become leaders that will take charge of the US military. I want to attend one of the US Service Academies because they would provide an excellent experience, to a high-quality student like myself, that is unavailable at other schools. On an academic level, US Service Academies encourage studies in specific majors, but also provide additional opportunities to prepare graduates before entering the armed forces. As a student who strives for success in class and makes the most of of academic experiences, I
At seaman high school there are many rules that students have to follow. Such as PDA, attendance policy, and seminar period. The high school advisors do not enforce PDA enough; Students do not come to school to see someone all over another student. Also, attendance policy is enforced enough. It teaches teens to have responsibility ,and to be on time to class. In conclusion, seminar period should be in forced more. The students do not get homework done, as much as they should; Seminar period is for homework ,and studying, not to be talking with their friends or on their cell phones.
America was founded upon, and continues to be defined by, remarkable leaders. Without the brilliant guidance and tireless dedication of generations of these men and women, it is possible that our country would not be the renowned nation it is today. The ideals and values that these leaders exemplified, and what our country has accomplished under their direction, has inspired me; I,too, am devoted to expanding and defending this nation’s greatness through my leadership. This desire, paired with my passion for the military, is what has, and continues to, motivate me to attend a U.S. service academy. Furthermore, my country has provided me with access to exceptional opportunities, education, and freedoms; a bestowal of far greater value than
Throughout the ten years of my Army career I have aspired to be a consummate professional and set the example for my peers and subordinates. I have always demonstrated my ability to lead by consistently filling in for positions above my pay grade without dereliction. I have proved to be resilient throughout my career by overcoming all of my obstacles set before me. Failure has never been an option for me as the accomplishments of all of my missions and the welfare of my Soldiers have always come first. In all of my assignments, I have made a name for myself to be a person of integrity, knowledge and reliability.
Being a Senior Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) in the United States Army was my real first experience at being a leader. There were many challenges with handling those new responsibilities that, at first were difficult, but later defining. I learned so much in a short period of time unlike any other experience in my life. Growing up in the Army, I have always noticed that officers, whether Commissioned or Warrant, possess something different about them. The officers that I have worked with always seem to be very competent and confident and project that toward everyone around them. I have always looked up to leaders that possess those qualities and try the best that I can to embody them. I am very committed our Army, this lifestyle, and the defense of our nation. I am certain that there is no other place on this earth that God wants to be. It is because of those two things that I want to be an officer in the United States Army. The Army has given me everything that I have so it is only right that I push myself, and be the very best Soldier that I can be for the Army. I feel that being an officer is part of that.
When I received a congratulating email from my dream college less than a week after receiving all three Congressional Nominations last year, ecstatic doesn't even describe how thrilled I was. Although the email wasn't giving me a direct appointment, I believed that Navy Prep would actually be the best option for me. Transitioning from a small town in northern Maine to the Naval Academy would've been a tough change, but now I am lucky enough to have the step ladder of NAPS in between. I’m always looking to push myself, learn, and grow as a person, and I know that this service academy will help me continue doing all of those tasks and more.
While in the National Guard, opportunities arose to attend leadership schools. During my 22 years of enlistment, the opportunity to become instructor certified for Tennessee’s Region 2 Noncommissioned Officer Military Academy arose. Deployed twice to
