If I could characterize my entire life in a single word, that word would be dedication. I grew up in a family committed to serving both our community and our country. My dad served for eight years as a naval intelligence officer before transitioning to federal law enforcement and my mom has stayed active in our church assisting in our nursery, teaching and some leadership roles. Beyond that, my grandparents, nearly all my cousins, and uncles serve in law enforcement, military, or medical. This environment instilled in me the value of hard work and ambition while setting me up for a career in public service. Like a moth to the flame, I have always been drawn to the military. It appeals to me in many ways, but most prominently in the role of the military to protect individual’s freedom. As a US history major, my dad always regaled me with stories of the American Revolution and Civil War. The courage and passion shown by countless historical figures to preserve freedom amazed me growing up and set the stage for my ambitions with the military. …show more content…
At that time, I began to research the United States Military Academy and United States Naval Academy and careers within the military that struck me as a good use of my life. Like many kids, the Navy Seals struck me as the ultimate job and so I began to train every night for the PFT. As soon as I could, I joined Cross Country to improve my running for the PFT. I also read every book, watched every documentary, and spoke to anyone that could provide me with firsthand
When the Navy sends their most elite squad, they send the SEAL’s. At the point when the SEAL’s send their elitist, they send SEAL Team Six. SEAL Team Six is a top secret group and the only way to get in, is to prove yourself as being strong physically and mentally. I Am a SEAL Team Six Warrior by Howard E. Wasdin is a emotional story of how Howard Wasdin defeated an extremely rough childhood and how he entered the extremely risky U.S. Naval force SEALS Team and Special Forces expert marksmen as a sniper. His transformation of becoming a young, poor boy into a lethal and extremely dangerous weapon will change him forever, and make him choose intense decisions. All through the book of I Am a SEAL Team Six Warrior it appears and clarifies missions that Howard had to experience. Missions no man should have to deal with. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for tons of action and for people with a thirst for adrenaline and a heart warming story.
Why did you enter the military? What impact did this decision have upon your family? What military core values/traditions did you identify with most, and why? Did values/belief systems change between entering the military and during their time in service?
I originally became interested in Naval service because of my military heritage. When I was younger, both of my grandfathers took care of me every day while my parents went to work. One of my grandfathers served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and the other served as a Merchant Marine during the Second World War and received the Purple Heart. Both of these veterans were instrumental in the early development of discipline and integrity. It is because of them that I gained a curiosity for military history. My grandfather that served as a Merchant Marine died when I was in first grade and it have always felt that it is my obligation to follow in his service to the United States by becoming an officer in the U.S. Navy. Once I started in high school, my grandfather that served in Korea began to tell me stories about his experience in the war which made me feel even further obligated to serve this great country.
Howard E. Wasdin, former naval SEAL and member of SEAL team six had served his country and has fought for it. In his book “SEAL Team Six”, it goes over his backstory and training to become one of the world’s elite snipers. Throughout the biography many themes were expressed in his story. Themes of brotherhood and morality will follow Wasdin through his career as a SEAL.
Working within the Veterans Affairs work-study program has many different avenues that interest me. I have found that I have a great deal of passion working in customer service and the office environment. I feel that with my prior training and experience I would be a valuable asset within the organization. I am a very self-motivated person that is very dedicated to my job and to my coworkers. My prior experience has been in active duty Air Force where I served a 9 year enlistment before separating honorably as an E-5/ Staff Sargent.
As a young child, I learned that education would be beneficial to not only myself but also all humankind. Growing up in a Northeast Florida housing project my father and mother did the best they could to raise nine children. My father worked seven days a week in the service industry as a waiter and bartender while my mother worked as a domestic employee in the homes of more affluent people in the south. My father had an eleventh grade education and my mother had not passed the tenth grade before she bore her first child. Neither parent completed high school but they had dreams of their children far exceeding their educational accomplishments. I was child eight of the nine and I knew early on that I did not want to live
I, Cpl Nathaniel K. Bouffard was born on June 15, 1996 in Burlington, Vermont. Where I then went to Flynn Elementary School from kindergarten to 5th grade. After that I went to City Middle school. Then for high school I went to Bellows Free Academy, where I graduate from. I decided to join the Marine Corps half way through my senior year in high school. I decided I was not ready for college, I figured I would be focusing more on social life then schooling. So I thought the military was the best option. I chose the Marine Corps over all the other branches because in my eyes and to this day the Corps is the elite fighting force of the world. I also am a fourth generation Marine in my family my great grandfather was a Sergeant in the Marine corps in WWII. My grandfather was a Sergeant during the Korean War, he later changed branches into the Airforce and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. His brother my great uncle was a Marine Sergeant during the Korean War as
From Sea, Air, and Land, the U.S. Navy Seal Teams are the most feared and respected commando forces in the U.S military if not the world. The Seal Teams are the most elite and highly trained forces on the face of the earth. President John F. Kennedy formed the teams in 1962 as a seagoing counterpart to the U.S Army Special Forces.
I selected this book because I’ve always been curious as to what type of person and what mental attitude someone has to have to become a Navy Seal. Eric’s grandfather died during his freshman year at college and that’s when he discovered he wanted to travel the world and help others just like his grandfather did. He went to Duke University and during his sophomore year he helped the Red Cross with poor kids in Bolivia and Rwanda.
I have 26 years of federal service, 20 in the U.S. Navy and 6 with NGA. During my military career, I took on the responsibility of developing personnel for operational readiness. For instance, during one particular assignment as the command watchbill coordinator for non-commissioned officers, I coordinated a unit proficiency-training workshop for the completion of new command watchstanding protocols. The workshop saved 9,600 man-hours and qualified 80% watchstanding personnel in less than two months. I currently attend The George Washington University NGA Cohorts Systems Engineering Program to obtain a masters in systems engineering, and have applied the knowledge and skills I have learned into practice. I developed a content workflow management
My Mother and Father relocated from Costa Rica to New York City where they met got married and where I was born. When I was just two years old, always wanting the best for us, my father moved our family from New York City to Jacksonville, FL in search of a better paying job and the American dream so he could provide us with a better quality of life. To ensure we were always clothed and feed, my father sacrificed everything for us and worked long hours to do so. Though I did have a pronounced, safe and active upbringing the North Florida school system didn’t expect much from the Hispanics that were starting to move to the then small town; unfortunately since my parents worked so much they expected the school system
The Making of a Navy Seal is a true story told by Brandon Webb. Webb tells the story of surviving his toughest challenges and how he trains to be the best. He has a very unusual childhood and is eventually thrown out of the boat his family lives on. Even though Webb has a rough start in his adulthood, he overcomes difficult obstacles and works hard for his goals.
Military service, to me, means to give my all in the fight for freedom and equality. Every task must be completed with full ability and effort. Furthermore, military service means not just serving to protect one’s own family and friends, but each of their friends and family as well. Military service is a selfless act, protecting all Americans, while at the same time, serving to propel and maintain America as the world superpower it
I, Jenner Jason Pereda, if selected for appointment under the Active Duty CWO Program, do agree to remain on active duty for a period of 3 years subsequent to acceptance of such appointment.
Millions of men and women have served in the armed forces before me and millions more will serve after. Some have paid the ultimate sacrifice; some lost and captured, others received wounds, physically and or emotionally, and that time
