Technology has a negative effect on society because people are becoming antisocial, technology is creating bad habits, and online problems are emerging. “Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master” (Christian Lous Lange). Imagine being in a world with no cell phones or technology, the only way to communicate is through person. In society it is easy to get caught up in society online instead of our own lives. Technology is an easy way to communicate to others, and also helpful in everyday life. Although there are many amazing things technology does for society there are negatives sides to technology. Technology can be a huge distraction in life and can blind society from the most important things in life.

Technology is a large part of everyday life in the 21st century, and the effects of its power over our culture are clearly visible in multiple ways. For example, social media is the most popular form of communication and using the internet and computers seems second nature to us, especially in the form of entertainment. Many children today have never known a time when they didn’t have access to the internet, a television, or a cell phone. Everything is accessible at anytime and anywhere. While there are many benefits to technological advancements such as easier teaching, instant feedback, and simpler communication, there are also many shortcomings and negative effects, especially on young children. In this essay I will explore ideas such as technology and its detrimental effect on children, and the importance of how children learn and are impressionable in the categories of learning and focus.

Have you ever thought about what affects technology actually has on a growing child’s mind? In Hanna Rosin’s, “The Touch-Screen Generation,” she suggests that touch screens are not inherently bad for kids. Many people think that if children spend too much time on electronic devices such as, iPad, cell phones and tablets, it will take tolls on the child’s physical and mental growth and development. There are also many that believe that technology is very beneficial to the growth and development of children. There are also many people that believe technology is misshaping and effecting family structure and function. Many people also believe that technology is disintegrating the core values of families. There are so many children who are so technologically inclined, that they will always rely on the technology being available. There are many pros and cons to children spending an abundant amount of time on technology.

Albert Einstein once said “ I fear that technology will surpass our interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.” Many people tend to think that technology is one of the best things to ever happen , but others believe that it is starting to have a negative effect on humanity. There are many different types of technology, but the two most commonly used are cell phones and computers. Our generation is being raised alongside technological evolution. Individuals use technology everyday for many different occasions, whether it be for work, school, or just to play video games. People don’t realize that they could outside enjoying their life and having fun, but instead they choose to stay inside on their computers or cellphones. Humans are being taught that technology is the reason behind everything that is happening in society today. Technology is supposed to make life easier for everyone. While it is true that technology contributes a lot of good to the world today, it has not came without a price. There are various negative effects that technology has caused in today’s generation. Technology is negatively affecting humankind because it is making people depressed, it is beginning to make individuals simple minded, people are becoming addicted to their technology, and because it is starting to make human beings do things that will put them in dangerous situations.

Have you ever considered how harmful technology is? Some of us believe that using technology is necessary while others think using technology is time consuming. However, studies show that 59% of boys and girls are addicted to technology. In 1951, the science fiction short story “The Pedestrian” written by Ray Bradbury, and the 2017 episode of 20/20, “Digital Addiction” both show the danger of too much computer, cell phone and video game usage can be. Therefore, some say that technology may be addictive. Furthermore, many believe that too much technology can cause cognitive changes, produce physical and psychological problems, and introduce dangerous situations.

Although technology can bring people together and has educational tools it can tear us away from what's real in life. Technology has become such a big part of our lives that people can now just look at a watch and check their emails or watch a video. People are being consumed by their own technology devices technological to the point that instead of spending actually face to face time with their family they are in their room and in their bed just watching youtube. There are many problems with the way technology negatively affects people. To name a few, people are constantly distracted, there are many individuals that are in social isolation because they are always on their device. Also, an individual can suffer from technology addiction which leads to having a warped sense of reality.

Computers and other related technologies have become an enormous part of our daily lives. They have altered our sense of people, space, and time. From our living rooms, we can now talk to people, and watch ev ents unfold in far-off places. Shopping, banking, and game playing are just a few of the other daily activities that have also changed. Many people use electronics everyday, but could the way we use technology have negative consequences on us? Before today, the effects of technology were much less apparent, but now, we are effected constantly by technology, and not in a good way. Because we use technology practically everyday, there will be negative effects caused by our everyday use, and it shows, such as lack of sleep, losing the ability to remember information as well, and becoming easily distracted.

Phones, iPads, tablets, iPods, laptops, computers all facilitate everyday life. Computers become a necessity in a couple of jobs; keeping files, research, reminders, etc. Multiple, effective applications of such technology can be set in place, however, that is not what is being done. Parents are giving children such elaborate devices for absolutely the most unreasonable intentions. Kids merely entertain themselves for far too long, which transforms into isolation. Unknowingly growing separated from educational value, friends, and family. For future generations only disaster emerges, but there is still a way that this can be retained from happening and involvement of parental help is required.

When was the last time you went a day without turning on the TV, working on the computer, or looking at your phone? I doubt many could honestly say they have gone more than one day without using technology. A little girl and her mom walked into Verizon, and the little eight year old instantly ran around the store looking at all the phones. “Mommy, this one is so big; can I have it, and what about this one?” screams the little girl. In today’s world, technology is flourishing and growing, and we live by it. Whether it is fighting to get the newest iPhone or purchasing a sixty-six inch TV screen, people cannot imagine life without technology and rely on it to do almost everything. However, technology can cause a loss of privacy, and today, Americans even lose individuality. Society and all its technological advances has a negative impact on today’s culture.

Today’s modern life is surrounded with technology and it has been growing rapidly over time, becoming an important part of everyday life. It has become a major debate whether technology has a positive or negative impact on our youth. Technology has its impact on all ages such as adults, teens, and even our toddlers. Many companies are inventing tools for kids to help them learn in different ways which can make them more advanced than kids their age. Technology has indeed improved greatly over the past decade. New innovations have helped society in great ways such as in medicine, communication, and transportation. Currently, scientists are reaching the point where they cannot keep up with the pace of their new innovations. In other words, they are not able to control or make secure their own invention because they focus more on creating something newer and more impressive. For my research paper, however, the focus will not be on the why and how technology is becoming a bigger problem but on the fact that society is not aware of the issues that technology brings, on the ways that people can be educated about this topic, and on why they should be educated about this topic.

Nowadays it is almost impossible for many people to do their works and spend their days without using any kind of technology. According to Savanah Guthrie, an American journalist “ a recent survey found that people check their phones up to hundred fifty times a day. We talk, text, listen to music, surf the web, take pictures, oh, and then we share it all on social media.” Many people think of technology in a negative way. They think technology makes people create their own world and it make them alone. Even though technology has some negative effects on society, it has also a positive impact on the way people communicate. Technology makes it possible for people to enrich their relationships and for disabled people to overcome their disabilities.

Less than ten years ago it would have been a rarity to own a smartphone. Technology has advanced immensely over the years and completely changed the way we live today.
