When Mieszko I married the princess Dobrawa in 965, he tied Poland’s government to another, stronger one and created the Polish - Bohemian alliance. Dobrawa, the daughter of Boleslav I the Cruel, was not only Czech, but also a strong believing Christian. A move like this would have been very positive in both the aspects of religion, as well as politics. *** It is important to realize that the spurs between the pagan religions and the Christians were becoming already tense. This is additionally and especially true when it comes to the German people at the time. Borders were becoming too mixed and fights for power began to break out. Poland, being relatively weak, had to do something to save itself from being conquered. And taken over by the
Historically religion has usually been a large part of civilizations, states, nations, and cultures. In Poland the case is no different; religion has been engraved in the culture and history of Polish people. Since the introduction of Catholicism In Poland has grown largely and more homogenously Catholic. It can be argued that this was manufactured at the end of the Second World War; through the holocaust and forced migrations by the Soviet Union. The significance of Poland’s strong ties to the Catholic Church is that the church plays a large role in the structure of polish society. The Catholic Church has served as a protector and promoter of polish culture during the times Poland vanished off the map, to the struggles for democracy. As Poland fought to rid them of Soviet influence and become a free democratic society with free elections that Catholic Church played a key role in helping the fall of communism in Poland. However from an alternative angle it can be said that art a music movements were also a key fundamental influence in the fall of communism in Poland. Although entirely opposite, both artistic expression and religion were two institutions of culture that both played significant roles in Poland’s rise to freedom. However it is clear from the work of many musicians, poets and
Letter from Birmingham Jail is a letter that explains the controversy that occurred when the clergymen purportedly criticized Luther’s entrance into Birmingham. Luther King Jr writes this letter to the clergymen who had insinuated that the situation of racial discrimination was in control by the law administrators and was not to be intervened by King and his group, the outsiders. The letter is published by the program of Teaching American History - Ashland University and dated on the day and date upon which the letter was written. The statement from the author may be excerpted from his argument that I am here for organizational ties and because there are lots of injustice here and I’m here to restore and fight for human rights (The
Document Review Regardless of the alliance between the United States and the Soviet Union during World War II, the cooperation found during a time of war began deteriorating due to the differences of the two nations. Soviet leaders claimed that communism and capitalism were unable to exist peacefully. Tensions grew strong as the USSR began acting out, causing the beginning of the Cold War and eventually the “Red Scare” in America, resulting in a change in foreign policy. Hints of the Cold War began in WWII as the multiple delays in creating another front in Europe made the Soviets suspicious of their Western Allies’ motives.
The war had a profound result with the British having rule of North America. The Seven Years War ended with the French signed the Treaty of Paris in 1763. French territory, New France had ceased to exist, the British gained control of the lands that extended from Canada to Florida with the signing of the Treaty of Paris.
The Seven Years War was a major event that took place to start the chain of events that led to the American Revolution. Mercantilism was the British government’s way of regulating the economy to increase national power. This encouraged locals to produce more raw materials, such as sugar and tobacco, to produce goods that were made out of the raw materials.
Militarism, nationalism, and the start of the alliance system between the great powers of the world in the beginning of the 20th century caused an enormous conflict that shortly after turned to the First World War. In late June 1914, Gavrilo Princip a Serbian nationalist assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria which shortly after caused the beginning of the greatest and bloodiest war in history. The war was fought on different theaters by the world’s greatest empires at that time. The allies composed of the British and the French empires joined forces with mighty Russia against the Central powers composed of Germany, Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire. In 1917, three years after the war broke out, the Allies were joined by the United States which forced a quick defeat of the Central Powers. The introduction of new weapon technology and trench warfare caused an unimaginable amounts of destruction and deaths all over the content of Europe where most of the fighting took place. By the time the Great War had ended in 1918, more than 9 million soldiers had been killed and 21 million more injured. Many historians of the 20th Century blame the generals of the Great War for the massive death toll, they lacked the ability to adapt to the new warfare tactics and the horrifying modern weaponry.
The wartime alliance between the United States and the Soviet Union proved a little more than a marriage of convenience. They both shared a goal of defeating the “Axis” also known as Nazi Germany. They had forced these two nations, a capitalist country and a communist country, to cooperate with each other and although this produced victory it didn’t last much longer than the celebrated win.
Civilizations are constructed and inhabited by people. No matter where they come from, the color of their skin or the language they speak they have the right to coexist. Immigrants from all around the world have come to one great nation to live the dream. America was founded by immigrants which today are now naturalized citizens by birth and that have several generations of families. The American population will always continue to grow not with the naturalized births but with the arrival of immigrants.
Eastern Europe was in a state of constant conflict and strained relationships in the early 1900s. Austria had drawn the ire of Serbia through the annexation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Balkans had just escaped from two wars, and major powers like Russia, Germany, and Britain sought to gain an influence in newly formed countries in the area formerly belonging to the Ottoman Empire. During this time, relationships were extremely crucial. They limited or expanded each country’s abilities to achieve their goals and impacted the global reactions to a country’s actions. These alliances were established from the treaties made and broken between countries from as early as the 1800s. However, the reason to make these treaties was not solely based
The Opposing alliances in 1985 were military alliances in the cold war, the two alliances were the NATO an anti-communism alliance, and the Warsaw alliance is a communism alliance. I agree with NATO alliance by trying to stop the communism alliances. Warsaw Was a collective defense treaty among eight communist states of Central and Eastern Europe in existence during the Cold War, led by the USSR. The Warsaw Pact was the military complement to the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance, the regional economic organization for the communist states of Central and Eastern Europe. The Warsaw Pact was in part a Soviet military reaction to the integration of West Germany the Warsaw alliance isolated itself with an iron curtain in Germany no one could leave or enter. Although NATO was present throughout the Cold War as the opposite to the Warsaw Pact, joint military exercises were practiced but no military operations took place. This came after the Cold War when NATO's influence in a post Cold War rose to prominence in Bosnia where NATO gradually stepped up their efforts to end the trouble.
What exactly is the problem, and why do you believe this to be so important?
As one of the most troubled region of the Balkans in Central Europe, the Balkans were affected by strife and hostility. The problems in the Balkans not only affected the people living in this region, but also other large European powers that fueled many of the major conflicts and events of Europe at the time. The First Balkan War and its profound effects on European history will be discussed, while also exploring the future conflicts in both the Balkans and the rest of Europe.
The War of the Triple Alliance is regarded as the bloodiest war in the history of Latin America, taking place from 1864 to 1870. In a seemingly uneven match up, the country of Paraguay took on an alliance of three countries: Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina. Paraguay started this conflict under the rule of Francisco Solano López, the country’s dictator. What would make Fransisco Solano López, dictator of Paraguay, exponentially increase his military forces and attack an alliance of three countries, two of which are much larger than Paraguay? I will use operational code to study the dictator who started the war and examine reasons as to why he made such the rash and risky decision that he did. After examining Francisco Solano López’s
(Wikipedia, 2015) During the time from 1795 to 1918 the Polish state did not exist and all of its borders were destroyed during World War I and World War II. In 1940 this caused 50% of the Polish to marry other American ethnics with no exemptions. Many immigrant families found adjusting was too difficult which then lead to crime, delinquency, divorce, desertion, prostitution, and economic dependence; leading to family disorganization. Therefore, not many Polish desired assimilation, but also wanted churches to become a blended staunch Roman Catholics which is Polish culture. This was to include a full social service available to assist immigrants in becoming acculturated as it did in their previous churches for the
Overall, I am generally satisfied with the process for developing the project. If I had another chance, I would have made the project electronical rather than a physical project, and with more time, I would have liked to have made the questions even more fun and engaging by having more real-world examples and possibly more interactive activities. In this way the primary text would be more about applying rhetoric rather than regurgitating information. By making the project into a physical game, I think we lost some advantages in terms of including image and video examples in our questions. I think an electronical version would have made the project more versatile and visually stimulating. There are advantages to having a physical game as opposed to a digital game, such as the participants feeling more involved because they are physically playing and experiencing rather than observing for the most part.
