I truly believe that most of sexism is harmful. There are so many different factors that play into sexism-between culture, religion, politics, and family upbringings-and so many different parts of this can point us in the wrong direction. We live in a world where many companies find it acceptable to pay women less than men for the same position, and where companies refuse to hire some of the most educated human beings simply because they are transgender. I am fortunate enough to work for a company that does not do either of these things. “How Racism and Sexism Killed Traditional Media” is a great book that accurately reflects not only how sexism and racism both killed their careers and their culture, but also how it affected so much more of …show more content…

I don’t see anything wrong with a man holding the door open for me every once in a while, just as I wouldn’t see an issue with me holding the door open for a man. It’s part of being kind and courteous to others.

I do believe that sexism can be harmful towards men. While you typically find sexism against women, it can be just as emotionally damaging to a man as it can be to a woman. Many people believe that men are incapable of being a single parent, but some of the best parents I know are single dads. It’s sad, because they literally had to prove that their children’s mother was a lying, very ill drug addict in order to get custody of their children.

One of my very good friends is transgender. She is one of the kindest, most amazing people I have ever met. However, I notice all too often the number of times she is openly judged in public and at work. I have had to correct many people in their actions and behaviors, because the way they speak to her is simply unacceptable. I do believe that this is one of the most harmful types of sexism, as she has been verbally and physically abused by people around her, simply because they don’t agree with her lifestyle or who she
