leadership with his organizational skills, hardworking character and ability to overcome opposition. He displayed servant leader attributes in how he put the needs of his people before his own and worked to help restore the walls for the safety of the people who live within the city. He even shared his own allowance of food and invited everyone to his table to partake of what he had to offer. Also, Nehemiah’s honesty aided him is earning the trust of those who worked with him and prompted them to work even harder. Next, Nehemiah was a visionary whose ability to see what was needed and plan accordingly helped to motivate his people toward carrying out that goal. In addition to this, the last element and most important that aided Nehemiah into
Built-in qualities such as intelligence, good looks, height and so on are not necessary to become a good leader. Anyone can cultivate the proper leadership qualities. In order to excel in their leadership a good leader must possess qualities such as self awareness, courage, confidence, innovation, fairness, openness, and dedication among others. Odysseus in The Odyssey, and Samuel, Saul and David in the Books of Samuel, display these characters. However, at some occasions they fail to do so. That is to say, leaders, being it great or small, chosen by God or people, are not completely perfect.
Kamehameha was an effective leader because after a huge war, Kamehameha worked with his people to fix his war torn land. After a battle, with Kamehameha’s victorious winning he helps out with his people to fix the land. Kamehameha helped fix the taro patches, ponds, and farm land. This example was something that changed because no one ever saw a chief work to help his people fix taro patches, ponds, and farm lands.
In the Lotus Eaters, the strong minded leaders can help the weak minded crew when they got sick when they eat the Lotus and Odysseus saves them. Odysseus told his trustworthy men to go and see what the land has to offer, “Then i sent out two picked men and a runner to learn … what the land sustained”(201). When Odysseus told the men to go and see what the land holds, they do not know what is in store. They don't come back for a while and Odysseus gets worried. Then the crew comes back they are intoxicated from the plants and, “They longed to stay forever…, forgetful of their homeland”(209). If they ate those plants they wanted to stay there forever , eating the plants. And the only way Odysseus could get his men back on the boat was for him
Moses empowered Joshua and gave him authority. To be a successful leader in the modern business world, you have to decide when it is the appropriate time for your successor to receive a bite of the pie. If you wait to long and they are thrown straight into the fire, success may not be achieved and your legacy and or reputation may be damaged. If you share the load with your successor, they can better understand the qualities and actions needed to be successful.
From the group Biblical Integration Paper, it was understood that servant-leadership is not only a gift of purpose that God places in the hearts of His people, but it is also a calling in one’s life to truly touch the lives of others in need. Living a successful life, as a servant-leader is not one that focuses on self-fulfillment, rather it is in seeking a fulfillment that comes from Christ when one pours him/herself out for the sake of others. It is through servant-leadership that one is able to bring hope into hopeless situations (Group Integration Paper,
Analyzing Nehemiah’s Servant Leadership behavior, Nehemiah will raise other people’s needs as a higher priority over his own; this is evident by the dedication of Nehemiah’s work to rebuilding Jerusalem. Nehemiah demonstrates how to serve first, instead of caring for his own wellbeing, an example of this is; Nehemiah hears of the troubles the people of Jerusalem are having and is willing to take action to help.
King David, a member of the tribe of Judah was chosen by God to lead his people. As everyone knows, he proved by his wise choices to be a very effective leader. As a great military strategist David united the tribes and extended the national boundaries so that in his time Israel enjoyed a greater fraction of
The nation of Israel was set apart as holy to the LORD. But they When the children of Israel demanded a king, they did so to be like the other nations. The first three kings were Saul, (outwardly tall, handsome and strong—a seemingly good choice for a king, but inwardly arrogant, proud and unrepentant—not God’s choice), David (a man after God’s own heart who repented of his sins and as such was God’s choice), and Solomon (the wisest man who ever lived, but because of covenant disobedience became the catalyst for the division and ultimate exile of Israel.
Public policy refers to “a system of laws, regulatory measures, courses of action, and funding priorities promulgated by governmental entity or its representatives”(Blau & Abramovitz, 2014). One public policy that is gaining attention from United States Senators is the Expand Excellence in Mental Health Act. We can gain a better understanding of this act by taking a look at a recent public policy related to mental healthcare, the values in the Code of Ethics, social welfare programs, stakeholder groups, and Joel Blau’s five elements model. This will give us a better understanding into the social problem and public policy related to access to mental healthcare.
This week I found it very interesting and enlightening to learn how servant leadership principles have been around since biblical times and how they remain timeless even today. I learned more about the leadership traits of those from biblical times during my research for this week's discussion post. While the majority of the concepts of servant leadership made perfect sense to me before in regards to how they were present in that era, this week it has become even more evident that mankind were really meant to serve each other. Through completing this weeks assignment, I have taken a look back at the various leaders that I have had the pleasure of working with, they all held servant leadership qualities.
Throughout the centuries epics, legends, myths and oral lore have reflected the ideal hero of the time in which the story was written. Few of these have survived until today to show us the societal beliefs of the ancient civilizations. In The Iliad, the main characters trusted divine intervention to lead them through life and hardships. The heroes used intelligence in order to deceive others and their pride and glory were of significant importance to them in order to distinguish the status of the soldiers.
“Leaders become great, not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower others.” John Maxwell. Not everyone is equipped to be a leader. Great leaders have the ability to establish a set direction and principles to guide their companies in an efficient way. It is believed that certain people possess traits that make them good leaders and researcher focus in personality, social, physical, or intellectual qualities that would identify them as leaders from the rest of the people. A few ideas have been developed over the years in the effort of define leadership. One of this is the Fiedler contingency model and Hersey and Blanchard’s Situation Theory. One of the situations that comes to mind is the story found in the Bible about Joshua when he was selected to spy the land of Canaan, and return to report on what was found, the land flowed with milk and honey. While others may only see problems before it true leaders can see possibilities and endure the opposition until they see an open door.
There are many core attributes of being an active biblical leader. According to Brent Rinehart, there are nine essential qualities of a Godly leader. A good leader is modest, not arrogant. There is always that one person who thinks they know it all or they
The book of Joshua is the continuation of the pilgrimage of Israel to the Promised Land. However, it is also a book about the man Joshua. Joshua's life is an illustration of the power of faith, and teaches us the key to victorious living. The principles he lived by and through which he found success are the same ones we can live by to be victorious in Christ. The essential element of that life is faith.
Moses was a leader of the Hebrews and probably the most important figure in Judaism. He led the Hebrew people out of Egypt and into the Promise Land. His story is told in the book of Exodus, and begins when he was first born during the time that the pharaoh of Egypt declared that all male Hebrew babies were to be drowned at birth. Moses’ mother Yocheved, hid Moses and placed him in a basket in the reeds of the Nile River, where he was then found by the pharaoh’s daughter, who kept Moses and raised him as her own. In the story of Moses, he grows up and stumbles upon an Egyptian beating a Hebrew slave. Out of anger Moses murders the Egyptian, and flees to Midian to escape his crime (Hays, 2000). In Midian, Moses rests besides a well,
