Neighborhood watch, police patrol, and warning signs. The three things that could help the communities that are worried about gang activity. The communities can try everything in their power to get rid of the violence from families and their community. Next neighborhood watch in the communities they could have group meetings to set up the times that people can watch out for gang activity. Setting up times to watch the neighborhood is probably the most dangerous way to get rid of gangs. The neighborhood watch should call the police or get help when they see gang activity, they should never try to get involved in stopping the gang activity, because it can be very dangerous. Gangs should never be allowed in the communities. There are young children in the communities and it’s a very peaceful community without gangs disrupting the neighborhood. …show more content…
The police patrol is the safest way to get rid of the gangs, by telling the police and informing them that the community has a problem with gang activity. The police could get ride through every night to check in on the neighborhood. They should stay for a long time to see if anything goes down. The police need to get rid of the people off the corners of the road that are just standing there. They need to come at the right times to catch the gangs off guard, so the police can stop the violence from breaking out. They can protect the community if the violence gets out of hand that nobody can break it up. The police needs to stop the between the gangs because there is a lot of deaths that come out from the gangs, and the children don’t need to be around a lot of negative influences to bad things when they get
The mission of the SDWCC Task Force, in partnership with key stakeholders, is to eradicate crime and violence caused by the West Coast Crips gang by creating a renewed community confidence and enhanced quality of life through a three pronged prevention, intervention, and suppression strategy. We will educate community members on the negative impacts of gang participation and attractive alternatives for families, and in particular the youth, in a robust prevention effort. We will utilize law enforcement and other emerging resources, to engineer intervention solutions for those at risk of gang membership and those already in gangs who are in need of, and desire legitimate lifestyle alternatives. The suppression element will attack illicit gang businesses creating disruption in their money making ventures and will aggressively target those most violent gang members to remove them from the neighborhoods and remove their influence.
It truly is a shame that it took any extended period of time for the admittance of a gang problem to be made. Ignoring a problem in no way makes it go away; if anything, it could easily make it worse. According to an article from the Time Free Press, efforts to reduce the gang problem that Chattanooga is currently dealing with, and has been dealing with for a while, have been made, but they simply do not last due to a major lack of cohesion. In my opinion, I do think that there are small things the community could do together, coupled with the efforts of law enforcement, that could improve things; slowly, but surely. Stated in the article, “There are at least 780 social service programs within a 30-mile radius that are potential resources to
Understanding that most of this kids are coming from a lower social economic background means that there is not a lot of resources provided for them. Despite this what the community should do is have a career fair to help gang members. According to, Beth Caldwell “ connecting gang members with meaningful employment opportunities, may be some of the most successful efforts in helping people to stop engaging in gang activity”. Having a career fair can be an option for youth gang members to think about going to college or finding a job rather than being in a gang. Giving them the ability to think that their essence is important can impact their life in a positive course. Job training skills can help them be a better person to seek for job opportunities. Even though civil gang injunction tend to bring a negative aspect into society and communities, they also benefit our society. Civil gang injunction help maintain community safety and focuses on the safety of the
These kids need things to do or they would just turn to violence to solve their problems. Gangs cannot be the only alternative. I would find various programs that the children are interested in doing. When dealing with such a large group I would have to go in an advocate. I would advocate change and make a stand to end violence.
A two-pronged prevention approach has proven effective, with primary prevention strategies aimed at the community 's general population and secondary prevention strategies targeting youth between the ages of 7 and 14 who are at high risk of joining gangs. Prevention efforts undertaken by law enforcement departments around the country include: “Participating in community awareness campaigns (e.g. developing public service announcements and poster campaigns). Contacting the parents of peripheral gang members (through the mail or during personal visits) to alert them that their children are involved with a gang. Sponsoring gang hotlines to gather information and facilitate a quick response to gang-related issues. Organizing athletic events with teams of law enforcement officers and gang members. Establishing working relationships with local social service agencies. Making presentations about gangs to schools and community groups as a combined effort at prevention and information gathering. Sponsoring school-based gang and drug prevention programs (e.g. DARE and GREAT)” (Hess, 2013 p.230).
The streets of Philadelphia are rapidly becoming a home to violent acts and random homicides. Innocent lives are taken every day due to the strong presence of gangs, and the streets are run by unruly groups of fearless young adults. Gang violence in Philadelphia is a major issue, and the citizens will never be safe until gang prevention occurs. Gang prevention is not a simple task, but with the right resources available, it is possible. Gang violence is a problem that will contribute to the collapse of Philadelphia, and it has yet to be solved throughout many generations. With gang violence on the rise, the best solution to gang violence is to educate the youth and parents about gangs and use family support to prevent the creation of gang
There have been many approaches taken to get rid of gang violence from the streets of Toronto. Whether it be by having tougher law's or taking guns off the street, very few methods have yet to be effective. When it comes to looking at a complex situation such as gang violence there are many factors that affect the reasons as to why people join gangs in the first place.Whether it is due to poverty, peer pressure, boredom or despair (Grabianowski). Gang violence can never be fully gotten rid of due to the fact that there will always be people who commit crimes whether it be just an individual or a group of people, however we can reduce the amount of people who choose to choose that pathway in their life. One of the most effective ways of getting rid of gang violence off the streets of Toronto is by having more activities provided for the youth in the communities with higher gang related crime rates.
In todays United States we have a huge problem affecting society, gangs and the violence that follows them wherever they go. These days’ gangs aren’t just compiled of grown adults, they often lure in young teens to do dirty work and to add numbers to their turf. Despite laws aimed straight at these gangs they still defy the law and wreak havoc upon the territory that they claim. The members in the gang have a gang first mentality and will do everything possible to provide for and protect their fellow members. They will very rarely snitch on their own to help put a stop to some of the meaningless crimes committed by these savages.
Gangs violence and there way they treat citizens within their neighborhood has also ways been a problem. Gangs have a way of taking over like cancer and pulling in our children, by offering them a better family life, one that will protect them and love them always, no school, power, promotion, and respect based on the gang that they join, and the colors they pledge to honor and protect. Citizens are always afraid of them and at times will let them take over their neighborhood and children, because they feel helpless, powerless and that nothing can be done, but there is a way and that way is finding programs that will help save their children and give them some coping skills that will help them to make positive friends, choices, and respect the right way. One of these programs is called G.R.E.A.T.
On May 17th, 1912 the city of Chandler was founded in the heat of the Arizona desert. This Phoenix suburban town is home to approximately 250,000 citizens. Unfortunately, youth street gangs have been recently developing and causing a spike in criminal activity in this once safe community. Gang related violence and criminal activity drastically impacts the security of Chandler’s businesses and community members. Our community has been the victim of drive-by shootings, vehicle thefts, drugs, homicides, and other gang related criminal activity. The city of Chandler has had enough of criminal activity happening in our community. It is absolutely essential that a gang reform program is implemented in order to prevent and break this violent gang cycle. Community members, business owners, and school officials are aware of the elevated gang related criminal activity and as the head of the new gang reform program, I hope to implement new strategic programs. The gang reform program will be a three-tiered program consisting of evidence-based prevention strategies, early interventions programs, and necessary follow-up methods. It is estimated that this gang reform program will cost nearly one million dollars for implementation and startup of the gang reform program for 2016.
The first step we should take is bettering the children that are already incarcerated because of gangs. 90% of juvenile boys in a correctional facility are gang affiliated. Why is this number so high? Something that could be done is starting a program in the jail. The program could help motivate them and keep them focus. It also would also be a step closer in steering them away from being in the gangs they are in. Or restrain them from trying to join them. Why are so many young boys interested in joining gangs anyway? The main reason why so many young people are affiliated with gangs are because there are not enough interesting extracurricular activities or programs to keep these young people off the streets.
The problem of gangs persists and lives are still being lost today. Gangs are truly are an assault on whatever community they are in. They tear at the very fabric of family and community life. There have been many attempts to solve the problem of gangs, but most were not backed up by data or hard evidence and therefore they are difficult to assess. One factor as to why gangs cannot be stopped permanently
Gang and gang violence has always been an ongoing problem within the country. Street gangs have evolved into some of the most notorious group associated with murders and killings that law enforcement agencies have encountered. Gang violence has become one of the most serious crime problem happening in the country that involves physical assaults, drive-by shootings, homicides, robberies, prostitutions, and home-invasion along with a long list of criminal activities. It had occurred and multiplied so fast in which it reach an all-time high epidemic of young gang people killed on the streets or entering into the juvenile and prison system throughout the country. Such death occurs on a daily basis especially in the inner cities that are
In society today, there is a major problem We live in a society where gangs are taking over our neighborhoods in numbers. It is the responsibility of the individuals to part take in getting their neighborhoods back under control. Gangs are becoming a growing problem in American society. More young people are turning to gangs to solve problems in their lives or for acceptance. When youths join gangs, they drop all their social activities with school, family, and friends. However, individuals ruin their lives, and the chances of them having a decent education, and a successful life by getting involved in gang activity.
Juvenile gangs have become a serious and growing problem in many areas throughout the U.S. It is unlikely that gang control strategies can be successful as long as legitimate economic alternatives are lacking. I will be exploring the possible proactive solutions to this social problem.
