Whoooooosh! If you listened closely enough early Wednesday morning, you may have heard Andy Murray’s sigh of relief in the distance. Murray’s nemesis and world No. 2 Novak Djokovic was defeated in the second round of the Australian Open.
The Djoker has ruled the tournament Down Under, holding six titles and winning five of the last six finals at the event. Many, myself included, believed that Djokovic’s return to the Grand Slam he has been most successful at would right his mental ship and return him to his championship form. Obviously, that wasn’t the case.
Denis Istomin, ranked 117th in the world, defeated the former world No. 1 7-6 (8), 5-7, 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 in a MASSIVE Melbourne second-round upset.
Like all tennis matches, there are two sides with the outcome. To his credit, Istomin came to play and kept his foot on the gas throughout the match. He played the with confidence of a Grand Slam champion, which he has never been, ripping ball after ball, especially down the stretch.

He battled until the end, yet he didn’t battle like the Djoker of old. This Djoker played very passively and seemed to lack confidence in himself and his game. Djokovic was gracious in defeat, giving the 30-year-old Istomin his due.
“Him playing this well, I mean, it’s amazing,” Djokovic said via The New York Times. “He played obviously above his level. You got to give him credit for that. Many things came together for him today. He’s a well-deserved winner.”
As well as Istomin played and as well as Djokovic acknowledged it, Djokovic losing in the second round is the real story. The most interesting comments after the match came from Djokovic’s former coach, Boris
In the second match of the day, Howard Payne led two sets to one and 14-13 in the fourth, but
Even the fans of tennis did not want Serena to win as they booed her and her family many times as she walked on and off the court.
Unfortunate for him, no one would agree. Anyhow, the opening presentation of the tournament finally began with each one of the players lined up on a podium facing the enormous crowd.
Tomic’s action was so swinish that even Novak Djokovic, the entitled, weather complaining, women’s equal winnings bashing, best player in the world buffoon, realized it was wrong. On Tomic’s need for maturity, Djokovic said, "The sooner the better for him, because he is still relatively young and he can definitely be a better player and better ranked than he is now. Everybody knows that. He knows that. But he doesn't seem to really get things the right way off the court."
Bobby Riggs, who was formerly ranked the number one tennis player in the world, challenged King to a match (Lankhof). Although it was somewhat of a publicity stunt and Riggs was well past his prime at the age of 56, the game symbolized all that King had been working for throughout her career. More than 30,000 people watched in the stadium and fifty million others viewed from their televisions. King recalls, “I knew I had to win. I knew that we had worked so hard and that if Billie Jean King didn’t win that everything we had worked so hard for, for two and a half years, would go up in smoke in two and a half hours” (Calabria).
Serena’s name a finally landed her the 304th ranking out of 350 spots. In that same year, she beat multiple players, including the 4th and 8th ranking spot, and made it to the semi finals all in one season. It is safe to say, no one was expecting her to beat two top ten players and move up to top 20 players within nine months. Everyone was sleeping, including venus, until Serena would play the number one ranking tennis player and beat her. This momentous moment, defied all odds. Serena was the first one to win a single grand slam title between the sister act. This grand slam title had yet to be professional verified by playing the only one left, Venus. This match was disappointing but the fact remained, Serena beat her older

Not only is his game in tiptop form for this historic venue, but also I believe his mental toughness is second to none as he has dealt with multiple injuries and health issues that have popped up over the last couple of years. Most recently dealing with a back injury that almost forced him to withdraw from the match play, but was able to gut it out and dominate for the victory. He has
Twenty minutes passed, we played just 7 games and the first set was complete. All that adrenaline I had built up had suddenly turned to shame. During changeovers, my coach was desperately trying to get me into my happy place. He tried talking strategy, but eventually realizing that his efforts were for naught, reverted to try and humor me by quoting “Animal House” or joking about how unattractive he thought my opponent was just to try and get my head on straight. As the second set neared its conclusion, I felt a sense of failure. About a week back, my team gave me the honor of being captain. I was supposed to be defending our new courts and setting an example for the young underclassmen hoping to one day be in my shoes. Instead, I was on the receiving end of a metaphorical butt-thumping by our biggest, most hated
Serena Williams is out of the French open with an injury. After one week at the French Open Serena Williams stopped short on Monday. This was because of an injury to her right pectoral muscle which made her withdraw shortly before her fourth round match against Maria Sharapova. She feels as of she cannot serve, which makes it hard to play if she cannot even start each play. This is only the second time that she has withdraw while in the middle of a tournament, the first was in Wimbledon in 1998 after injuring her left leg. This is Willam’s
"It will be fun to see it," Djokovic told the Associated Press. "I was lucky, I must say. Right place at the right time, I guess."
At last, the day of girls tennis tryouts has came. The day I have been waiting for to finally reveal my skills and techniques. I trained hard all summer to get in better physical shape so that when I got onto the court I could attack each and every ball. The tryouts took place at tennaqua which had six tennis courts available.
For anyone who watched the men's tennis final at the Australian Open (January 29, 2012), there is no doubt that Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are extraordinary athletes with stamina and skills that are amazing. The match went 5 hours and 53 seconds and both men were drained physically and emotionally at the end when Djokovic emerged victorious. But is tennis the most difficult sport? The answer is probably not. Some would say boxing or football should be considered the most difficult sports. And when it comes to baseball is hitting a pitched ball with a wooden stick the most difficult? The argument is ongoing about that.
Purpose Statement: The purpose of my speech is to inform my audience about the history of tennis and about tennis itself.
