The fourth most abundant and by far one of the most interesting elements, Neon, is definitely unique. The tenth element on the periodic table is known as a noble gas, with the symbol ‘Ne’. This element has a density of 0.0008999 g/cubic meter, a boiling point of -246.08 degrees Celsius, three natural isotopes, an atomic mass of 20.179, and a melting point of -248.59 degrees Celsius. It’s atomic number is ten, and its atomic mass is 20.179. This element was first discovered by Sir William Ramsay in Scotland, the year being 1898. The name ‘Neon’ comes from the word ‘Neos’ which is Greek for new! The element was found through the study of liquified air, and can be found in the Earths atmosphere. Not only that, but the unique element actually glows a bright red-ish orange when it is electrified... At least, typically. Depending on the gas, chemicals, and how it is electrified, the element can also glow other colours such as red, yellow, white, and blue! Sadly, neon is not all sugar cookies and milk. It had a multitude of dangerous aspects that come with the dandy glowing gas! We are able to inhale neon, and since it is not oxygen this can cause us to suffocate, which could, after a long enough amount of time, result is asphyxiation and death. Other side effects of inhaling this element include things such as dizziness, nausea, loss of consciousness, and vomiting! Not only this, but the gas can actually cause frostbite on contact with liquid, which is a bit of a scary
