The fourth most abundant and by far one of the most interesting elements, Neon, is definitely unique. The tenth element on the periodic table is known as a noble gas, with the symbol ‘Ne’. This element has a density of 0.0008999 g/cubic meter, a boiling point of -246.08 degrees Celsius, three natural isotopes, an atomic mass of 20.179, and a melting point of -248.59 degrees Celsius. It’s atomic number is ten, and its atomic mass is 20.179. This element was first discovered by Sir William Ramsay in Scotland, the year being 1898. The name ‘Neon’ comes from the word ‘Neos’ which is Greek for new! The element was found through the study of liquified air, and can be found in the Earths atmosphere. It is found as a gas with molecules. These molecules typically have one neon atom. …show more content…
Not only that, but the unique element actually glows a bright red-ish orange when it is electrified... At least, typically. Depending on the gas, chemicals, and how it is electrified, the element can also glow other colours such as red, yellow, white, and blue! Sadly, neon is not all sugar cookies and milk. It had a multitude of dangerous aspects that come with the dandy glowing gas! We are able to inhale neon, and since it is not oxygen this can cause us to suffocate, which could, after a long enough amount of time, result is asphyxiation and death. Other side effects of inhaling this element include things such as dizziness, nausea, loss of consciousness, and vomiting! Not only this, but the gas can actually cause frostbite on contact with liquid, which is a bit of a scary
The element Argon though was suspected to be presented in the air by Henry Cavendish in 1785 but it was first discovered by Lord Rayleigh and Sir William Ramsay in 1894 it was discovered in England . The name Argon originated from the Greek word ‘Argos meaning idle. Argon is the third Noble Gas in period eight of the periodic table, and makes up less than 1% of the Earths atmosphere. It was obtained when Rayleigh and Ramsay isolated air and exanimated the residue of air after Nitrogen was removed from the mixture. This element was the first of the inert gases to be discovered on Earth, and always appears associated with nitrogen. Argon has no compound.
This can make these elements every dangerous because some are toxic to humans and animal if they inhale them. It is hard to detect when these elements are in the air around you in dangerous amounts without proper equipment. Due to their state of being, and the fact that some are toxic they need to be handled properly by a professional to insure that no harm comes to those in the surrounding environment. The fact that all of the elements in the Noble Gases group are gases make them unique because other elemental groups have an array of different states of matter in their element groups.
Pierre Janssen discovered helium in the spectrum of the corona of the sun during an eclipse in 1868. Shortly after it was identified as an element and named by the chemist Sir Edward Frankland and the British astronomer Sir Joseph Norman Lockyer. The gas was first isolated from terrestrial sources in 1895 by the British chemist Sir William Ramsay, who discovered it in cleveite. In 1907 Sir Ernest Rutherford showed that alpha particles are the nuclei of helium atoms.
First, I'm going to tell you about the history and uses of neon. Neon was discovered by Sir William Ramsay, a Scottish chemist, and Morris M. Travers, an English chemist, shortly after their discovery of the element krypton in 1898. Neon is one of the most amusing elements used today. Neon mixed with some other elements
The element I’m doing research on is Neon. Neon is usually used for advertising. For example, the Las Vegas sign uses neon so it can have a bright light or shine in the dark. The element’s chemical symbol on the periodic table is ‘Ne.’ It’s really easy to spot the symbol on the periodic table since it uses the first two letters in the actual word, Neon. The atomic number is shown above the element’s symbol on the periodic table. The number represents how many protons and neutrons it has. In this element, the number is 10, which means there’s 10 protons and neutrons. The atomic mass tells us the mass of the atom, for neon the mass is 20.180. In the periodic table, the mass is usually located underneath the chemical symbol. For each atom, every
chemical element here on our own planet Earth. Though it is a rare, unreactive noble gas,
Every element is special because none are ever the same. Even an atoms isotope is different. Krypton’s atomic number is 36. Its atomic mass is 83.798 units. The number of protons in an element, which is also the atomic number, is 36. It also
A little background to this element that we use today is that it’s the first noble gas and the second most abundant element in the world. Pierre-Jules-César Janssen, a French astronomer, and Sir Norman Lockyer, an English astronomer, through experiments have found that the longest historical document that shows a theory of where our helium is retrieved is from is one of the biggest things in the world, the sun. By looking at the elements of
Alfred Noble was a Swedish chemist, most famous for inventing dynamite. He may also be called a business man, engineer, inventor, and philanthropist. Since he really didn’t discover an element, I will list the elements it is made from and their information. Dynamite is nitroglycerin which is basically carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen. It also contains an absorbent that contains silicone. Now, let’s get into the details, starting with Carbon. Carbons atomic number is 6, its atomic mass is 12, and it has 6 protons, 6 neutrons and 6 electrons. The next element used in dynamite is Hydrogen. Hydrogen’s atomic number and atomic mass is 1, it has 1 proton, 1 electron, and 0 neutrons. The third element is nitrogen. Nitrogen’s atomic number is 7, it has an atomic mass of 14. It has 7 protons, neutrons, and electrons. Finally, is the famous oxygen, with an atomic number of 8
It may be funny, but research shows it is not all that safe. When you breath in helium it displaces the air in your lungs and there is no way to get oxygen. This is dangerous because it could cause your oxygen levels to drop very low. When your oxygen levels drop you could become very dizzy and disoriented. It could also cause an abnormal heartbeat, unconsciousness, or even death. This is all if you just breathe it normally. If you breathe helium deeply, or directly from a container that is pressurized, it could cause a blockage of a blood vessel which could lead to having a stroke, seizures, or death. It could also burst the air sacs in your lungs. In that case you die because you would drown in your own blood.
It is not toxic History of Gallium ● It was discovered through a spectroscope ● First proposed to exist in 1871 by Dmitri Mendeleev (he was the one that created the periodic table) ● It was discovered in Paris Uses of Gallium
Germanium is a solid element that looks similar to silicon. It has a grayish color to it and has a glittery look to it. Its atomic number is 32 and its in the 4th period in the 14th group. It has a melting point of 928.25 degrees celsius. This element was named after he country Germany, as you can clearly see.
Neon is a very inert element. Neon forms an unstable hydrate. In a vacuum discharge tube, neon glows reddish orange. Of all the rare gases, the discharge of neon is the most intense at ordinary voltages and currents. It is present in the atmosphere as 1 part in 65000.
Neon is a chemical element. Neon was discovered by two chemists named Sir William Ramsay and Morris W. Travers in the country of England. Ramsay and Travers discovered this element in the year or 1898. The word “neon” is a Greek word that means “new”. Neon was discovered through the studies of liquefied air.
Chromium is part of the periodic table this element has the atomic number of 24 which means that it has 24 protons and 24 electrons. Its atomic mass is 51.996, but when reduced it will be 52. The density of the element is 7.19, and the temperature for it is 20 Celsius. And the melting point of the element is going to be 1907 Celsius. This information gives you the idea of what my element has.
