But what is he talking about anyway? Net neutrality, or the separation between internet service providers (ISP’s) and the content being retrieved through their networks, is an extremely hot topic nowadays. The ideals of net neutrality can be compared to the way you would use electricity in your home. You do not pay your power company a “toaster fee” just so you can plug in your toaster, or a “light bulb fee” just so you can turn on your lights (Gordon; Ammori). Imagine getting online, only to find out that you can 't access your favorite website. It could be Instagram, Tumblr, or even Youtube, a website for uploading videos. After getting off the phone with your internet provider, they tell you that you need to pay to access your favorite website. Internet providers want it to be set up that way. Their has been an ongoing debate about net neutrality between the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) and internet providers. Net neutrality is fighting again internet providers blocking content.

Net Neutrality is allowing users to free and open access of internet irrespective of sources or internet providers demanding special charges in order to use services provided by them. Now a days Internet is one of the essential part for everyday communication in life. Several services were used in our day to day life for example GPS tracking, google, Wikipedia, Netflix etc., and we can’t imagine a day without the internet. Internet Service providers combining with corporations were utilizing this and trying to make profit out of this by imposing more charges on the user in order to utilize the services needed for him with more speed and flexibility. There are several discussions and debates supporting and opposing net neutrality.

It's been a theory for some time that the government can view the American peoples' internet searches and browsing history, but are they and should they be doing it at all? The Government will be able to monitor what you’re searching for, watching, etc. I believe the Federal Government has too many powers right now, some of which they can’t seem to keep up with. Most Americans today don’t even know what net neutrality is, let alone how it so greatly affects their life. Whenever you use the internet you are benefiting from net neutrality. If we were to lose Net Neutrality, then we will inevitably lose all innovation, creativity, and the spread of great ideas on the internet, allowing only the wealthy and powerful to have complete access to the internet. Without net neutrality, we would see a decrease in innovation, the gap of accessibility of information between the rich and poor would increase, we would start to see a rise in censorship in content, which violates free thinking and freedom of speech. Net neutrality is limiting internet service providers, such as AT&T, Verizon, Century Link, Comcast, MediaCom, etc., from charging their customers where they are using their internet. Right now internet service providers can slow access to certain cites and speed the internet upon other cites, they are basically controlling where people go and what they do on the web.
