Net Neutrality
Many people worry that without net neutrality, we will lose our freedom.
Net Neutrality is the principle that Internet Service provider’s should treat all content on the internet equally. Most people in the United States of America want to keep net neutrality. However, the Federal Communications Commission’s chairman, Ajit Pai, wants to stop net neutrality, so many people are protesting to keep net neutrality. Net neutrality promotes innovation and allows freedom, but is seen as unnecessary by the Federal Communications Commission.
One reasons to keep net neutrality is to promote innovation. People can contribute to science and discovery when they have full access

Since net neutrality forces Internet Service Providers to treat all content equally, people can have equal opportunity on the internet. Blocking, throttling, and slowing websites is restricted with net neutrality, so everybody gets to have equal competition on the internet. Without net neutrality Internet Service Providers would have the ability to throttle companies that support them, and block competitor companies and their services. This would start monopolies that restrict smaller companies from selling products and services. People also have suspicions that Internet Service Providers will start to make people pay microtransactions to have access to each individual site or group of sites on the internet. Because net neutrality evens the playing field for all users of the internet, net neutrality promotes …show more content…
Most aspects of net neutrality can be achieved without forced regulations. They say Internet Service Providers wouldn’t want to alter internet content access and speeds anyway. We should trust our Internet Service Providers. Internet Service Providers are afraid to alter the internet because they would quickly lose many of their customers. They say net neutrality will disincentivize companies in low income areas. We need more focus on broadband expansion instead of regulation of companies; some companies take more bandwidth than others, so having net neutrality overloads bandwidth on smaller companies that don’t need as much. Also, authority should be restored to the Federal Trade Commission. Internet speeds become overall slower by spreading out bandwidth. The Federal Communications Commission has multiple reasons for thinking that net neutrality is unnecessary.
Paragraph one explains how net neutrality promotes innovation. The second paragraph explains how it protects freedom. Paragraph three explains how the Federal Communications Commission says net neutrality is unnecessary. Net neutrality promotes innovation and freedom, but the Federal Communications Commission sees it as an unnecessary addition to an already stable internet. Many reasons for siding with or against net neutrality have been given to show both sides to net
For one thing, it would give the Federal Government more power over the Internet. “If net neutrality went into effect, then the government would have to monitor the telecoms’ and cable companies’ broadband connections” (Wasserman, 2014). The Government will be able to monitor what you’re searching for, watching, etc. I believe the Federal Government has too many powers right now, some of which they can’t seem to keep up with. By enacting net neutrality, additional Federal Buildings would have to be built, additional Federal Workers will need to be
First thing I want to point out what is net neutrality. Net neutrality is limiting internet service providers, such as AT&T, Verizon, Century Link, Comcast, MediaCom, etc., from charging their customers where they are using their internet. Right now internet service providers can slow access to certain cites and speed the internet upon other cites, they are basically controlling where people go and what they do on the web. They charge certain companies more for the customer’s use of that cite and then, in turn, those companies charge more to their customers. Basically net neutrality is making the internet a fair place that everyone can use without having to worry about if the internet site they use is going to be slow or if they will be going
Without net neutrality, companies can charge the customer for how much data they use rather than a flat price. Most every other business practice is like this. If someone goes to get fast food and only wants a sandwich but has no other choice but to get the full meal, that is the same concept. This is very appealing to lots of people who may not use as much data as most internet users and feel that they are paying too much. Internet Service Providers are very against net neutrality because it costs them more money.
[1] The concept of net neutrality is that all data on the internet must be treated equally. So, this means that internet service providers cannot use deep packet inspection [2] (which is reading information contained in a packet to detect signs of unwanted or “unsavory” data) or any other means to discriminate against specific types of data or content they don’t necessarily agree with. One important aspect of the argument is how such a system would affect minority/low-income groups. I believe that net neutrality is an overall benefit to such communities.
What is Net Neutrality? Well net neutrality is a principle that individuals should have free access to internet. The user can have access to all the content and applications equally, regardless of the source, without the internet service provider (ISP)to discriminate against the specific online service or websites. As the question, has risen, is net neutrality a good thing? In my opinion, the answer is yes in modern time the internet is our freedom of speech that preserve the fact that the government shouldn’t have control or regulate any information over personal data use as it preserves undistorted consumers’ freedom of choice. One essential principles are the end-to-end principle: the links in the network, which its sole purpose of getting
I also think that the government needs to maintain net neutrality, because there have been cases throughout the last few years of ISPs and phone providers illegally blocking websites from all their customers - e.g. AT&T blocking Verizon’s website in an attempt to lower competition. This is not good, because the consumer has a right to know about their ISP’s competition if they want to know it, and blocking it prevents them from making an educated decision if they want to switch. If net neutrality is done away with, and there aren’t proper laws in place, ISPs would also be able to charge different amounts to different companies for the same amount of traffic - meaning that if Verizon had to pay AT&T to unblock their site, AT&T might decide to charge Verizon far more than is reasonable. This also means that ISPs could charge more from larger companies, and make more money than they already do, or charge more from small businesses that they don’t like and drive them bankrupt or cut down their profits due to online traffic being blocked, and the business wouldn’t be able to sustain itself from the lack of
Net Neutrality is the principle that Internet service providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular services or websites. If we were to lose Net Neutrality, then we will inevitably lose all innovation, creativity, and the spread of great ideas on the internet, allowing only the wealthy and powerful to have complete access to the internet. Without net neutrality, we would see a decrease in innovation, the gap of accessibility of information between the rich and poor would increase, we would start to see a rise in censorship in content, which violates free thinking and freedom of speech. The fight against net neutrality is also a very modern one, and is still being fought today, and many advocates for net neutrality will continue to fight until the internet is safely open and free to everyone.
And without Net Neutrality, millions of small businesses wouldn’t be able to compete against larger corporations online, which would deepen economic disparities. This would then further add to the 1% of people who exist only at the top of the social ladder. This causes the rest of society to have a harder time to go through life. As a matter of fact, this would cause all of the
Net neutrality is becoming a rising topic that could take the large community of internet users by storm. Net neutrality according to Dictionary.com is: "The principle that basic Internet protocols should be non-discriminatory." This definition by itself is very bland and leaves out many important details. I agree whole-heartedly with this idea of a truly open internet. Nobody questioned the free internet until on January 14th, 2014, a federal court of appeals opposed the Federal Communications Commission or F.C.C's "Open Internet Order." This allowed for large internet companies, such as AT&T or Comcast to discriminate against content displayed on the internet. This change could end up costing users a lot more out of their
One of the greatest things about the internet is the ability to visit any website you please to get your news and information. The removal of net neutrality would allow ISPs to slow down or even block you from accessing certain websites unless you pay a premium. This is a basic violation of a our fundamental rights under of the 1st Amendment: freedom of speech and
Net Neutrality is the idea of being able to enjoy free speech, be involved in innovative processes, and not have unreasonable limits placed on one’s internet usage is alluring reason to support net neutrality. Without net neutrality, big companies like Verizon, AT&T, and Comcast which provide services to consumers so they can access the internet would have more control. The companies can put severe caps on the internet which basically would put limits on individual subscribers who are critical of them. They would charge enormous fees for the services so that internet access is available to only the wealthy. Net neutrality was put in place to protect broadband, protect small companies to continue to innovate and protect freedom of expression.
What is Net Neutrality? Well Net Neutrality is the set of rules that prevents internet companies from forcing people to pay extra fees to use websites they do not support; as well as preventing the internet companies from not allowing people to view said websites. Saving Net Neutrality is important to have an equal internet, the repeal of the rules can create an onset of problems, and the opposition falsely claims that the repeal has improved the broadband deployment. Therefore, Net Neutrality is important to have an equal internet so there is no prevention of access to the competitors’ of the internet companies that they own. According to Ryan Blethen, Net Neutrality rules help protect entrepreneurs, consumers, teachers, everyone, from monopolists
When a person goes online they want to have total control over what websites they view. People expect their service provider to not manipulate their data and connect them to all the websites they want. When people use the internet they want Net Neutrality. Net Neutrality is a basic method that prohibits service providers like Verizon and AT&T from speeding up or blocking websites people want to use. Net Neutrality is the way the Internet works.
• Net neutrality protects innovation and if big companies like Google and Netflix could pay to get exceptional treatment, more bandwidth, faster speeds, the new start-up firms would be at a disadvantage.
I find net neutrality to be important because I believe that the internet should be fair to everyone. I don't think that ISPs should have the power to slow internet speed once a costumer reaches a certain gigabite. At this point in time I don't see this as too much government regulation because the ISP systemwas flawed. One example where net neutrality is needed would be Charter internet slowing streaming for Netflix.
