History can be broken down into the past days, years, centuries, and even mega annums, but if the saying history repeats itself holds any truth, then should we not consider our history the future? I could spend hours looking through quotes about how history is a never ending cycle but George Gordon Byron says it in a way that pulls every quote together, “History, with all her volumes vast, hath but one page.” So if history is just a foreshadowing event that tells of what is to come, then one might think we would be prepared for acts such as terrorism.
On January 7th, 2015, two gunmen attacked the headquarters of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, killing twelve people and injuring twelve others before escaping. On 9 January, police tracked
Edmund Burke once said “Those who don't know history are destined to repeat it.” Unfortunately, it seems that many people who have impacted the world have had a bad history teacher, as history continues to repeat itself to this day. One of the most prime examples of this is seen in the Middle East; where the Palestinian people are fighting against the Israelis over territory in which they both believe belongs to them. It has been a dispute which has resulted in loss of homes, loss of life and loss of money. However, this is nothing new. Eugene O’Neill’s statement, “There is no present and no future, only the past happening over and over again, now” applies strongly to the situation of the past 70 years in the
There is no doubt that history repeats itself and even though it isn’t direct if we look a little deeper we can see the similarities. No matter how hard we hide history will discreetly fined a way to
In recent news, there has been a string of attacks all over the world; each attack has been related to terrorism. A passenger boarded a train traveling from Amsterdam to Paris, armed with a box cutter, a pistol and an AK-47 with intent to harm innocent people. Four passengers on the train quickly subdued the terrorist before anyone could be harmed. In November, Paris, France was struck with terror when three armed men set off a string of attacks throughout the city, to include a bomb and active shootings. This attack left nearly 127 people killed and wounded. Most recently, in San Bernadino, California a man and woman left from a holiday party and returned with assault rifles. The officials attributed their act to terrorism, where the
Most people believe that the only way to get they want is to go to war or revolt against those who treat them badly. Some people also fear that good and honest people will turn to this type of violence to get what they want because it worked in the past. Look how the Pueblo Indians dealt with the Spanish, how Thomas Paine believed the only way to get their freedom from Britain was to encourage everyone to join the fight, and how Thoreau was afraid of expanding America because it meant the increase in slavery and in the chance slaves would turn on the United States of America to win their own freedom. History can be used to learn about our past and to see how it has affected the way the world acts today.
After the fall of the Qin Dynasty, the Han dynasty drew from the teachings of Confucius to create the Han Synthesis. This formed the traditional belief in China that history repeats itself and directly contributed to the Dynastic Cycle. This is demonstrated by the use of Confucius teachings, the Dynastic Cycle and the Han Synthesis when addressing the Good Life, Good Society and Good State respectively. Each of these philosophies highlight that Chinese history repeats itself by casting light on this theme of repetition through the three different areas. This makes the state accountable for its actions to its people. Confucius was a Chinese philosopher whose ideas greatly affect China in every aspect of its culture. In The Analects, he
Reminds us of a site that saw one of the worst acts of American terrorism, and now as history does, we run the risk of having it repeat itself. Our longstanding tension with Russia, as well as the way we have bombed Syria, an ally of Russia, does not suggest an unchallenging future. Our rocky relations with North Korea have not been the best either. However, history’s repetition is not necessarily a negative thing seeing as it is vital to learn from our errors. Only then can we grow and better equip ourselves for whatever else is to
history though is that we can learn from our mistakes, and make sure that nothing like this ever
What I find ironically funny is the statement quote used for this essay topic, “Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it”. This is something our government needs to take heed to, because they are the ones repeating history. Right now as we speak banks are again selling houses to people that cannot really afford the payments, they are signing contracts without reading the fine print of the balloon rates that are going to make it impossible to keep their
June 12th 2016. At first glance this date means nothing to many, but as you dive deeper you realize that this date claims the deadliest mass shooting in United States history and the largest loss of life due an act of terrorism since 9/11. This is in reference to the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida where 49 people were murdered and another 53 patrons were injured. This is at the hands of Omar Mateen, 29, who was an American born citizen but was a self proclaimed ISIS member. Mateen called 9-11 mid attack trying to plead his allegiance to ISIS. After a three hour standoff with club goes still inside a SWAT team eventually rammed into a side of the building and the gunman was shot by the police force.
Time and time again, Lady Macbeth will doubt her very competent husband. Also, if a man has to plot a murder to gain power, is he really a man? Is being deceitful a trait in a “man”. Macbeth gets quite a bit of the spotlight and intention throughout the production, but there is a real man hidden behind all of Macbeth’s faults.
1. Gold Paved Road- The gold paved road in our container is a symbol for the theme immigration. The gold paved road is symbolic of the immigrant’s beliefs of a better and more luxurious country that they would be able to make a life in compared to their home countries, much like the luxurious nature of a gold paved road. Immigration relates to the theme of industrialization because of the horrible factory conditions that were endured for low pay because of an immigrant’s need for money in America.
As an early childhood educator, in an effort to support families who have a lack of extended family support, I will make sure to provide them with resources that support their family needs. Resources that are based in the school setting could be childcare, tutoring or expanded learning programs in the afternoons. These school based resources can help the development of their children and offer parents more support. Other resources are more community based, such as parenting classes, enrichment programs and many more. These community resources can provide families with the support of others that may help them deal with issues or concerns they are facing. Sometimes families just need to know they are supported and
Americas history is what defines us and who we are as a country. We were built on hard work, sacrifice, wanting to be free and independent to be who we want to. Now a-days, we seem to have fallen away from this. Everything is given to us so easily on our computer and through technology that we have no need to work hard anymore. This is the downfall in humanity because as we keep going, life will continue to get easier and we won’t want to do anything. History is our hope so that we can learn from what we did in our past and how things were done then. For starters, we can see what mistakes we did and make sure we don’t do them again. If we continue to the same thing over and over again, there’s no way for our society to improve from this. Our
Now and days every person must take at least two years of history in order to pass high school. Many people, including myself, ask the question,“Why must we take history?” Well the answer many of us get is, “ So that history does not repeat itself.” The real question of the matter is, Does history repeat itself? History has repeated itself over and over again. An example of this would be the genocide that occurred in the Ottoman empire in 1915, nearly 88 years later another genocide has occurred in Darfur in 2003. These two events are both similar and different in ways, but none-the-less are proof that history does in deed repeat itself.
George Santayana once said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” Following this quote, I would be expected to discuss some of the terrible actions committed in our history and that if we don’t learn about these events, they are bound to be repeated in the future. Well I slightly disagree; let us repeat history. Although our nation has endured dark and shameful times, our history is also honorable and full of progress, innovation, patriotism, and triumph. The United States’ history should not be confined to the worn pages of textbooks or preached only by teachers across America. It needs to be shouted from rooftops by all citizens so that we may, yes, repeat it, again and again.
