New England Colonies Research Paper

The economy of Colonial New Jersey was a simple one, very much like that of other colonies and different types of establishments. Said economy, was set heavily on, you guessed it, trade, imports and exports. Occupations of New Jersey’s citizens varied, but not so far out of the normal range, but just far enough to include the following; Farming, hunting, resource gathering and many types of manual labor, such as Carpentry. Many people's’ incomes depended on exporting, weather it back to Europe, or to another colony it was a staple in the economy. Previously mentioned was farming, livestock like cattle were grown a lot. Also largely produced was wheat, to make flour, which was exported.

The Southern Colonies consists of Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. And in those areas, there were three groups: social planters, Yeoman farmers, and the frontier families. All three of these social groups played a major role in the lifestyle of those from the Colonial period. I’m here to identify and describe the lifestyle of these three major groups: planters, Yeoman farmers, and frontier families.

The United States (British Colonies) needed to separate from Britain because of growing unrest. The colonies attracted more and more immigrants and had steady growth in their 150 years. Most of the growth was in urban areas like Boston and Philadelphian. These big cities had large populations of free people and slaves who had contrasting views, but were living in the same condensed areas. The immigrants had no loyalty to the British monarchy, so attitudes towards the crown greatly shifted. This shift started when Britain passed the Proclamation of 1763, saying the colonists could not settle in Indian country. With cities overflowing and land available in the west, immigrants with no loyalty disobeyed the crown and went west.

The geography and the environment along the atlantic coast affected the colonies in which subsided there. The New England and Southern colonies both worked around their environment and geography to ensure optimum profit. As the people of the different colonies became wealthy and prospered more people became ministers, lawyers, doctors, and teachers. The instantaneous route to wealth was through the land. Different colonies had different opportunities for colonists.

Starting off as a single colony, the New England colony eventually expanded to form the Middle colonies, Southern colonies, and the Chesapeake colonies. The Chesapeake and New England colonies both stemmed from England, but developed in a way that made them each very unique in the way that they developed. Developing around different intentions, the New England and Chesapeake colonies were unique due to their different economic and social structures.

Although there were many different aspects like religion, ethnic diversity, and new ideas that contributed to the growth of British settlements throughout the New World, “geography was the primary factor in shaping the development of the British colonies in North America.” During the 1600’s the geography deeply impacted the life style of the colonies, as well as their overall economy. Without North America’s vast range of natural features, New England, the Middle colonies, and the South wouldn’t have been as successful as they were.

The New England colony really only had the pilgrims and puritans, but the Middle had the Dutch, Quakers, French,German, Irish, Finns, and Scotts. The New England colony had very poor soil where the Middle had very fertile soil. Also the New England had not a lot of farming where the Middle grew very good crops because of their good fertile soil. Also the New England had very long winters, but the Middle have very long hot summers. The New England fished and built boats, but the Middle mined and traded and started drug stores so they made good profit.

A large country is in control of what you say, do and believe. After years of being pushed around and finally being fed up with being told what you can or can’t do, your people leave the rule of the mother country, in search of freedom. This situation happened to the British North American colonies and they ended up breaking away from Britain and creating their own separate identities and created new feelings towards Britain. Geography was the biggest influence on the colonies becoming unique, and surviving on their own. The New England colonies consisted of rocky mountains and infertile soil while the soil in the Middle and Southern colonies had deep and fertile soil fit to grow lots of crops and tobacco (Statement, By Linda AlchinPrivacy).

In colonial America in the late 1700s, the states were not unified under a single form of government. They were under British imperial rule, which proved to be a constant struggle for the colonists In the late 1700s, America was in a state of political, social and economic unrest. For example, certain significant events such as the Proclamation of 1763, the Sugar Act of 1764, and… ??? Eventually, these events contributed to the American Revolution starting in 1765, where the colonists rebelled against British power. This period of time ultimately was the beginning of The United States as an independent country. Finally, in 1776, the Declaration of Independence was drafted, which allowed the United States to officially break away from British rule.

The New York colony was the second colony founded after Virginia. They relied on peaceful relationships in order to make money from the fur trade. The culture and weather in New York was successful.
