The New Museum was designed by SANAA Architects, Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa. SANAA Architects received the commission to design the New Museum in 2002 and completed it in 2007. The museum is located near the Bowery, and it is described by the architects as the "museum wanting to be there". The New Museum is a seven story building however, it is an eight level structure. Also, the museum is 175 ft above street level. The New Museum’s intended usage is to be a home for contemporary art and an incubator for new ideas. The New Museum is a combination of elegant and urban design. For example, seven rectangular boxes are placed on top of one another according to the anticipated needs and circulation patterns of the users. Following this, aluminum
The Scarborough Museum is an educational place to visit in Toronto. People can learn about the history of Canadian families living in Canada during the early 1900’s and how they survived throughout the seasons. The Scarborough Museum is situated on a piece of land that once belonged to the Thomson Family. It has houses that had come from other parts of Scarborough. One of the house being the Cornell house. The Cornell house is Victorian style house built in 1858. It has a kitchen, an upper floor, which had bedrooms, a dining area, and a parlor room. In the kitchen, there is a stove which has multiple purposes; for cooking food and for keeping the house warm during the winter time. Learning about the stove was interesting because it shows
A new exhibit on the history of crime in Lake County, “Crime and Punishment”, is open for the summer at the Courthouse Museum in Lakeport. Stagecoach robbers, a notorious sneak thief and a gang of murderous miners are featured in the same building their sentences were handed out.
The Goodwood museum is a plantation house from the 1830’s and had several different owners. It features original furniture in the main house, none of what of it was brought in (all of it was found in the house when it became a museum). Everything was original including paintings, furniture, and the chandeliers. Outside of the main house, you can see a porch that was added during the early 1900’s. The main house consisted of three stories, the bottom being for entertainment: the living room, office, and dining room. These rooms featured beautiful furniture and painted ceilings (which were painted by italian painters). There was a bookshelf that consisted of books from that time, one being a first edition Edgar Allen Poe book. In the dining
According to the Getty museum states “Lagrenée played an important part in the French movement away from the Rococo style toward a more restrained, lassicizing expression”. “Deliberately rejecting the exuberant, artificial aesthetic of the mid-1700s, he revived instead the previous century's taste for cool colors and polished, refined technique”. The context in which the culture affected Alcibiades artwork was about race, gender, and class. Another information that I found interesting is that “The male dress is rendered in angular lines that contrast with the soft curves of the female attire. The men hold weapons as their job is war, while women’s jobs are concerned with children” . According to the Khan Academy states“In 1785 visitors to the Paris Salon were transfixed by one painting, Jacques- Louis David’s Oath of the Horatii. It depicts three men, brothers, saluting toward three swords held up by their father as the women behind him grieve—no one had ever seen a painting like it”.

used a scale to obtain a larger model. Her head is stretched vertically, and her hair is pulled back into a braid. It was a project to homage sea, the ocean. First, it was placed in Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro, and later in Chicago’s Millennium Park, Chicago. Nowadays, her serene face and closed eyes are contemplating the Port of Miami. Water is the main public space in the world and Miami is the perfect place to live when talking about water. That is why Plensa decided to place his work at the Perez Art Museum Miami.

The list of historical buildings that act as museums is endless. International style arose to reflect the modernist art style and the social sensibilities of the 20th century. This design was often composed of simple material and straight lines. The goal of international style was to act as a blank canvas on which to display artworks. It wasn’t until later in the 20th century that
When I visited the Ringling Museum of Art it always surprises me to see the amount of people that go to visit from different backgrounds and of all ages. This recent visit there were mainly just people of little to no art background except there was a group of college students along with a professor from the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus there viewing the art and took a tour along with me. I talked with them and as I saw there reaction to each gallery it was fascinating. They were amazed by the sight and described it as “ elegant and beautiful” and when they viewed the artwork unclose with only a few inches from the canvas to evaluate the small details of each piece. Inbound this very interesting so I began to do this
I found it interesting how Botero really made the country of Columbia into a cultural art center and how he reflected the country in his art style. He is just one more example of seeing how Latin America artists take their surroundings into their art and how they show a deep love for their country. When he donated his complete collection to the country, creating the Botero Museum, I was very impressed in his generosity giving back to the people. His reflections of Abu Ghraib on the US in the last few slides is also interesting to see how outsiders view our country.
What is art? Some people may say it is creativity that comes from your imagination, however, I believe Salvador Dali had a different view on not only art, but life itself. The Dali Museum in St. Pete, Florida, holds numerous art pieces displaying his great work, but the true beauty of the museum is within the building itself. Visiting this spectacular site is a must when in the area. Architect, Yann Weymouth designed a bulky exterior, three stories high, with an amazing spiral staircase and a beautiful garden that overlooks the St. Pete waterfront.
I was toured by the docent Ms. Alba Muniz at the Ringling Museum of Art located in Sarasota, Florida. Asking her and some of the tours many questions, one of the answers they gave me was that the museum does have a lot of Renaissance, Gothic and Rococo but the museum is particularly strong in the Baroque period. This museum was very interesting and exciting to visit. It had featured exhibits such as Peter Paul Rubens’s, The Triumph of the Eucharist Series, Trenton Doyle Hancock’s, What the Bringback Brought, and Builder Levy’s, Appalachia USA. These three exhibits where really compelling and had a strong background to them. For example Peter Paul Rubens’s, The Triumph of the Eucharist Series, was comminsioned by daughter of King Phillip II in 1625. Her name was Isabella Clara Eugenia and she was actually in one of the tapestries presented in the museum. That tapestry was called The Defenders of the Eucharist. The
You know what’s disturbing in today’s world? When a story about a lost pig in Dalhousie gets way more views than a local museum losing one of their prime time players. Heritage House Museum in Smiths Falls losing its curator Carol Miller disturbed me because people need to realize that it could happen in any of your towns, any day, anytime-- and if we don’t do anything to stop the hemorrhaging we will not have these local gems anymore.
Q1. Sending back 1,000 paid registration fees is not feasible, and would create negative publicity about the event in the media. However, it is impossible to allow the convention center to become a fire hazard due to overcapacity, and were an incident to occur, the publicity would even be more negative, if someone were injured (such as if there was a fire and the building could not be evacuated in a timely fashion). Instead, using satellite venues to cater to certain aspects of the expo would be advised. Using the exterior space outside of the convention hall to house some of the events would balance the number of individuals on the exterior and interior of the structure. Even if inclement weather were to occur, tents could be used to stage some of the attractions of interest.
Do you have that car guru on the trip? Don’t worry the Okoboji Classic Car Museum is the place for you. Not only are you able to see some classic cars, but also replicated streets of what Spencer, Iowa, and Arnolds Park, Iowa use to look like in the 1950-1960’s, complete with a bar, hand painted murals, and a drive in movie theater. Tobie Shine, the owner, also has men and women working hard on restoring and fixing old cars. Maybe your wife will let you take a car home!
