The president is constantly looking toward the state of nation’s defense. All major decisions and strategies are his to make alone. Likewise, the president is the nation's number 1 political boss. People look to the president as the leader for public opinion. Even though the president seems like he couldn’t take on many other roles, he is also the Chief of State, he is the leader of the rituals of the American Democracy.
The modern presidency has in a sense become a double-edged sword in that presidents have become beneficiaries of anything positive that can be attributed to government, but also can be blamed for anything bad occurring in society. Quite simply, the modern president has become the center of our political system (The Modern Presidency, 2004). The men who have dealt with this double-edged sword known as the modern presidency have often walked a very fine line between effectiveness and ineffectiveness, but all have attempted to use their power in one way or another.
Donald Trump before he became the 45th president, his famous campaign motto “Make America Great Again” caught the attention of many Americans, but mostly by white Americans. Trump’s tactics made him a very clever man throughout the election, he had many techniques on how to gain the American vote. Throughout his campaign, he was attentive of the men around him. For example, Trump knew exactly what to say to get the attention of the American people. He already had in mind who he was going to pick in position for foreign policy, national security, and defense (“Donald Trump is the ultimate Machiavellian prince”). With this intention, he brought comfort to Americans, yet the people he was going to pick for these positions all have a common trait, which was all of them are specialist in the Middle East and Russia. Not only, was Trump attentive of America, yet he kept in mind how it was going to affect
Throughout history, the term “Imperial Presidency” has been used in the 1960s to portray the United States presidents and their utilities. “Imperial Presidency” is grounded on many citations, observations that are devised by many historians. A numerous number of presidents follow the footsteps of presidents before them, in order to
The life of a President Have you ever wondered how difficult it is to be a president? Well it is not as simple as it may seem, being a president means constantly being watched, judged and put into a lot of pressure to take on the responsibility for the country. In
Reasons why the Role and Influence of the Presidency has Increased in the Political History of the U.S.A
James Barber presents an intriguing method into uncovering and analyzing the presidency. As Barber explains, “To understand what actual presidents do and what potential presidents might do, the first need is to see the man whole—not as some abstract embodiment of civic virtue, some scorecard of issue stands, or some reflection of a faction, but as a human being like the rest of us, a person trying to cope with a difficult environment.” The President’s personality amplifies in world affairs. Ultimately, James Barber’s breakdown of the presidential character is semi-credible/reliable, offering a unique perspective into Barack Obama’s presidential character that can be described as generally active-positive and passive-positive,
Research is something I take pride in. I understand that so much can be learned from just reading an article, watching a video, or listening to a podcast. During this project I did all three of those things. Presidential power is still a topic today that we struggle to define. The founders wanted the President to be a “powerless” leader but in contrast we also knew that they wanted the President to also have some power to overrule certain things. President Reagan was a man of enthusiasm, and during the INF negotiation treaties I really believe he just took America under his wing and did everything he could to put America in a better place following the action. President George HW Bush was a man that also wanted the best for America, but he
[Abstract]In the 2016 American presidential election, Donald Trump, who has been dampening down since his announcement of running for president, beat his opponent Hilary Clinton, being elected as the next president of the United State, which was seen as a political miracle. As we know, rhetoric plays a vital role
President Obama’s Inaugural Speech: Rhetorical Analysis Barrack Obama’s inauguration speech successfully accomplished his goal by using rhetoric to ensure our nation that we will be under safe hands. The speech is similar from ideas obtained from the founding documents and Martin Luther King’s speech to establish ‘our’ goal to get together and take some action on the problems our country is now facing. As President Barrack Obama starts his speech, he keeps himself from using ‘me’, ‘myself’, and ‘I’ and replacing it with ‘we’, ‘us’, and ‘together’ to achieve ethos. He makes sure his audience connects with him directly by making them feel at his level, and him at theirs. This way he connects to the audience, and in exchange, helps his statement of unity. Using various examples of parallelism, anaphora and refrain, Obama brands the theme of equality and togetherness in our country throughout the speech, vital to gain the respect of his audience. Obama recalls the ‘enduring strength of the constitution’ by delving into the past alluding to America’s allegiance to the Declaration of Independence by quoting “we hold these truths… that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of
The first citizen of a nation can be seen as an individual who is at the head of his institution and also one of his own citizens. It may seem ironic or even impossible that a person can assume such high standing while maintaining the typical image of his fellow men. But with the unique structure of the American Government and the many interesting facets of its President, the American Presidency can assume such roles. Since the military is headed by civilian control, the President's status as Commander-in-Chief declares him as one of and head of the civilian population. The American President is the leader of his political party as chief of party, the ceremonial head of the American Government as chief of state, and a representation of
Literature Review In review of the literature, the impact of a Trump presidency on the People, American culture and the development of America, will seem to hinder the progression of the nation, as we know it. America and its greatness now seems to be compromised. As President Trump governs the nation, the nation as a whole appears to be more divided. The people of our precious nation appear to be divided. Thus, a Trump presidency has proven to be nothing less than controversial and seemingly detrimental to society. Among the literature reviewed, in order to understand Presidents Trump’s influence, it is necessary to decipher the ways in which Trump will impact the United States. Whether it is his views on immigration, presidential spending, healthcare, the economy, women’s rights, marriage equality, or bipartisan relations, the President’s views seem to not be in alignment with the nations goals, clearly the nation is resilient.
