This summer I had the opportunity to do New Start a program for incoming freshmen at the University of Arizona. The program is to support the transition from high school to college and throughout the program you gain knowledge and tips not only just about the college but about yourself. Using tools from class activities like SWOT and True Colors that helped me really understand who I am and what are my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Within this essay I will share with you my SWOT analysis and the things I learned about myself during the last few weeks.
Strengths
Personal values I believe speak a great deal about a person and who they are and I learned that my values reflect just that. During New Start we had an activity in class that forced us to pick from a list of personal values and narrow them down and rank them in order of importance. My top values included family, friends, school, and independence just to name a few. This activity was especially challenging for me but in the end it helped me really look at what truly is important to me. I had to apply this lesson from class in my life sooner than I expected. My grandmother passed away during New Start and I had to decide if I wanted to miss school and be with family but that also meant by missing school I’d be missing out on important information. In the end I choose to go to school the next day and be with my family afterwards. That decision alone was very hard because in a situation such as mine there was a conflict of my personal values my family is very important to me but school is just as important to me. Although it was difficult for me to make that decision but the fact I had the ability to choose between two of my own personal values is why I’ve chosen to place knowing and understanding my personal values as a strength. I know that throughout life there will be times when I will have to choose once again between my personal values and as student like I’ve mentioned earlier I’m going to make those decisions based on what matters to me and what won’t always be there in the end.
Another strength I have is goal setting towards the end of high school coming into this summer my top goal was to get a job. I've tried my best to
A third strength I have is an inner drive to be able to stick to a task and get it done. Whether it is at work or at school, if I am assigned a task I make it a point to work at it until the task is done. If a deadline is presented in front of me I have something inside of me that forces me to keep working on it until it is completed and not just completed but done first the right way. Which leads to another strength that I have is a strong work ethic. In my profession in recruiting what I do reflects me and the company that I work for. When I go to recruiting events or career fairs I represent the company that I am there for. Everything about me such as my demeanor, my dress, my attitude, etc. reflects the professionalism of the company as well as any reports or products that are produced and put out by me. I take pride in my work and
My second key strength is showing gratitude to others. If someone does something for me or helps me develop a new skill. I show gratitude to them by thanking them, and I tell them that really appreciate their help. I am there for that person when they need my help.
Another strength of mine is my passion and enthusiasm for the field. This trait is something I pride myself in and means that I put 100% effort into everything I do. My passion is evident by the autistic patient I work with. I give extra assistant with this patient because I want to and not because my supervisor requires me to. I volunteered over the other techs to be included in all her
Values are standards and principals by which we live our lives. These standards are many and often depend on people`s background e.g. Culture, class, religion, gender, age. Values are extremely individual attitudes that direct people`s responses to the world around them. Amongst some of the values I live my life by and respect are privacy allowing me to have space to myself and respecting the fact that others may desire privacy, to be safe and also allowing others the same, having self respect, being trustworthy, being non judgmental, being anti discriminatory, respect life and faith, value freedom and equality, value choice and others points of view. I have learned to live my life this way from my parents and their families. The schools
These are my strengths. I am a risk taker the reason for that Is because I love doing almost doing every thing. I will get out of my comfort zone to do fun things. I eat the weirdest food to see if there are good or not. I will do every sport except baseball I believe that baseball is just boring. I will go camping without tent all i need is a sleeping bag and a fier. I love sports, outdoors, and being with my friends. This year I will work on doing homework, which I am not good at doing. I will try to get good grades so I can pass 7th grade. I will work my hardest on every thing I do. All these sentences are my struggles. I will show my teachers that I can have fun and doing my work at the same
One strength I had in my essay was my use of significance. I usually struggle with significance in my essays but I felt I did a good job incorporating significance throughout my paper. One area I did a good job talking about significance was in
My activities in school have played a big part in the values I live by today. In my marching band, the core values
Over the course of my life my values have changed based on circumstance. Currently if I had to list out my top five values in descending order they would be: religion, family, education, country, and culture. I value religion first and foremost because of my beliefs system that has been instilled in me since I was a child. " If you place God first in your life, then everything else will work itself out", is something my Grandfather has always told me. Family is something that doesn 't necessarily come first, but is a very high value to me. I identify as being a very caring father and husband, the protector, and head of my household. My family has always been supportive of my decisions. They have influenced me to always give my best at everything and to persevere when I fail. Education is the new value that has began to take a precedence in my life. Education is the bridge to success that I am striving to succeed at. Without education I cannot properly attend to my family 's needs. The time demand of education also puts it very high on my values list because it warrants the majority of my attention.
Another skill that was a strength for me was handling my responsibilities. I answered this skill as being able to perform this extremely well. I responded this way because one of my positive attributes is that I am very accountable for everything that I have to handle in life. I feel that I fulfill my responsibilities as a student, daughter, athlete, employee, and godparent to the best of my ability, while taking into consideration that I have to balance
My three remaining values were health, family, friendship, happiness, and self-acceptance after our activity in class. During the activity, my deliberative strength made it very difficult to keep narrowing down these values in groups. I could have spent all day deciding what values I hold more deer. I thought I could handle a possible disconnect between my values and work, but activity showed that I could not. It was so difficult for me to narrow the values down because I actually do care about values.
I had learned these core values from my family, teachers/professors, peers and myself. While I was younger to the age I am now, I was shown how important it is to have strong characteristics that make you a person. Everything I had been through I had lost and gain some of the values along the way of my life. I will admit not all of these came at once; it took much time to see the importance of my life and progress what’s left in it. Most of the time, when I was stuck I’d ask for advice and see how others got
My personal values act as a basis for determining right and wrong in my daily life. My life, my parents, my husband and my children have all played valuable roles in the development of my core values. The following is an ever changing personal ethics creed, that I plan on using to help guide me in my endeavors.
My values change every year, last year I valued getting a job, enjoying my time alone, working on selling urn necklaces on Amazon, reading my favorite books and socializing with more people on the internet. This year my values have changed a bit, I value meeting new people who share similar interests like mine, focusing on college, exercising and building a stronger relationship with my family. These values come from myself because I like change in my life and want to get out of my comfort zone little by little and be more out there. As a student I don't feel that my values from last year have aligned well
The biggest strength I have is to be creative with the situation that I am given. This in not only a skill that suggest that one can synthesize material to give it a sense of authenticity, but also can adapt and accommodate in the moment. Even the best planners can have a poor classroom dynamic; the rigidity of these classes is what prevents them from engaging students in the moment. I genuinely believe in effective planning and mythology but I also believe in breaking from the script and to accommodate the needs of learners in creative ways.
Life can be many things, it can be a box of chocolates or it can be a big trial and error, over time some of our values change, become eroded, or become forgotten. Our actions can say more than our talking and our beliefs guide us in life. Over the years, my values have greatly influenced my character and helped me reach my point in life right now. Unfortunately, not every one is lucky, they forget their values and become overwhelmed.
