As the journey of learning, I got a lot of improvement in the middle to high school. Many things I learn in the middle school and it get improvement as I was doing a lot of activities and writing an essay. First, I got betterment in middle school by doing activities and getting to know something. In the middle school I where do a lot of actives before the school start, but it was not easy to go the first day. On the first day not understand what teacher say to do activities with writing something about yourself. The activities I don’t get it because not understanding what the teacher was saying fast and different accent. Another thing, it was hard to study that homework was giving by the teacher. In high school, I learned a lot of different things about grammar and little bit about writing a paragraph. In the class, it was getting the hard word and the class that I did not understand the story. I get the book to read and have to write about it. I was not to get what to write and not understanding the book. Other, I was starting to put more effort than other by going to after school and talking to the teacher. As after school, I meet the teacher and talk about the story and word that I don’t understand. Also, the teacher helps me to write an essay about the story. More often, I get to know about grammar, when we write when to put the comma and how to break down the run on
First and foremost writing has always been a bit of a challenge for me. My writing in high school was mostly regarding essays about a book I was assigned to read and analyze. I've noticed that there's a difference between my writing in high school and the essays i've wrote so far in college. My writing in college seems to be far more formal and includes complex wording. My writing in college tends to be longer than most essays i wrote in high school and far more detailed.
When I was a young student, my first English professor taught me the alphabet. After one year, he taught me to put those letters together to make words, sentences, and finally paragraphs in essays. During the high school I learn to write short paragraphs, with ought putting in the correct structure .When I moved in America I stared the course of English as a Second Language and I finished with success last year. My professor advise me that when I starts the English 101 my writing it will be more fulfil and more structural. He has right as when I arrived in English 101, I realized there was more to do not just writing words on paper.
Well trying to learn in my English class it was very hard for me because I did not understand the way in which the teacher is teaching because it did not appeal to my learning style, which I figured out while doing our second paper. The way I figured out that help was needed by only my second paper was when going over the paper and seeing what were the problems with the paper I still was not able to correct what I was doing. Overcoming this was particularly difficult because when coming to the teacher for help I still was unable to grasp the learning. This is when I turned to peer for help which helped me tremendously while in this class, as well as, visiting the AAC on campus where someone sit down with you and go through and help you improve your writing techniques and skills that what helped me achieve a passable
Over the course of this semester, my confidence in writing has improved greatly. In high school, I didn’t really know how to write effectively. I wasn’t really sure what was considered to be “good writing” until I took AP* English. However, even while I was taking this “Advanced Placement” class, I was still trying to figure out how to really create “good writing”. I feel as if this had something to do with the fact that I never really had to work with the rules of grammar intensively. After taking this course, however, I now have a much better understanding of how to correctly use proper grammar. I also improved on using transitional phrases in my writing. I have implemented my understanding of proper grammar and transitional phrases in both my writing inside and outside of this class as a result.
Starting my ENG101 class, I felt like it was the basics of learning grammar and English material from high school. However, I quickly learned that I needed to brush-up on some of my writing skills. I acquired skills of the past, as well as some new ones. Writing may still be slightly confusing to me when using correct punctuation, run-on sentences, and organizing my thoughts. Learning to use an outline, create a topic to answer questions, and brainstorming has taught me to become a better writer.
I was the exact same way during school! I wouldn't raise my hand to answer questions when I knew I was right either. I was extremely nervous going into middle school during the 7th grade, so I could only imagine how it was for you going to a middle school that began in the 5th grade. It's even worse when teachers are constantly reminding you about how different middle school is going to be from elementary school. They think they're trying to help by giving constant reminders, but it really only helps cause more worry about transitioning. Your middle school's no hugging policy seems so out of place in an environment where students socialize and meet new people. However, I'm glad you were able to enjoy your high school after your difficult middle
It is essential to understand that classes taken in grade school do not give students a full understanding of each subject. With the topic of writing, there will always be a new lesson to learn, an aspect to improve, or a differing way to explain. Author Craig Vetter states in Bonehead Writing, “This is your enemy: a perfectly empty sheet of paper. Nothing will ever happen here except what you make happen.” Each story, essay, or response comes from a writer’s experiences. With each attempt at a new piece comes an underlying story of emotions the writer is facing. Each person’s writing is unique and the ideas people have are related to their past experiences and what they believe to be familiar with when deciding which writing style to use. As a high school student, I have learned many things about writing that helped me become the improved writer I am today, but the most essential advice I have received is practice makes perfect. Although there is no actual perfect way of writing, I have discovered that each essay I write, my writing improves. It is easier to spot mistakes, find areas to improve, and ponder elevated word choice to use.
Writing a college-level essay can be tricky, especially if there is lack of inspiration or the ideas aren’t organized well enough to articulate into a draft. However, in the case of higher-level education; students are encouraged to stimulate their learning through writing, in order to acquire an analytical and understanding capacity to be successful in college. Coupled with planning, research, and hard work; writing essays for college becomes an easier task in a short time, resulting in the improvement of critical thoughts. In the article, Using Writing to Promote Reading to Learn in College, Hayes Christopher G, states that, “the written text allows both reader and writer to examine thoughts captured in time and recorded in words, thereby encouraging more complex thinking because constraints imposed by memory have been abolished by the written record” (Hayes 4). After all, more than any other invention, writing has transformed the human consciousness. This mastery gives society the ability to improve every day, by enhancing their personalities, considering that having a good use of language and information, will result in achieving great success. In the article: Reconsidering English Teaching for Improving Non-English Majors’ English writing Ability, Yuru Shen declares how, “it is self-evident that grammar plays a very important role in language learning, including English learning” (Shen 74).With this in mind, understanding that college level composition is important will
At the beginning, I learned how to write my paragraphs properly and towards the end, I learned how to write an essay. For example, when I'm writing a paragraph, it's important to be more clear and specific in my topic sentence to get the reader to understand my point of view and to draw the reader's attention. For example, in my essay, I wrote “arranged marriage” as my topic. My professor taught me the correct way to write “my arranged marriage” as my topic. Then, I prove the topic sentence by giving clear examples and details information. At last, the conclusion of the paragraph has to wrap up the whole topic. Then, I learned how to write an essay with a better introduction, background information, and thesis. Also, I learned to have more examples and supporting details in paragraphs by comparing and contrasting, cause-and-effect, and problem solution. Before taking this class, I did not know how to write an essay. After learning this information about writing an essay, I can write a good
When I first came this classroom, my basic writing was a way lower than I thought, because my writing was a kind of messy due to the missing of strong vocabulary words in my sentences, transitional word to tie up my sentences and how to use quotation more efficiently in my writing and to summarize someone else thought. In fact, a major part of those problems was related to my brainstorming because I was always doing a free writing, instead of organizing my thoughts or ideas after the brainstorming. Even though I was a poor, I learn the concept of organization and sentence structure, the way of summarizing and quoting, and to write the comparison and contrast essay.
From grade school english courses to English Composition I, I have learned something new every year. However, some mistakes that I have made in my writing, I did not realize they were mistakes until my current English course. I soon learned that the mistakes I made in previous
After this english class I am a new writer I am so much better of a writer before. This is a fact I learned basic grammar rules that are very necessary to writing. I actually really learned them, I think this is because I really care now. I have learned the rules in the past through many years of school. But it was not until now my first year of college, and actually wanting to change my life and my habits I built through all my life in school. The habits of just going to class because I have to just being there because it was mandatory. But the whole class I was I was thinking about something else or not actually putting in my full effort. I did not actually learn the material I was being handed because I did not care of put in any effort.
My experience with English has changed drastically from middle school to college. Being in middle school I have really had to do much of a big paper, but as I progressed through college I’ve realized there much more that has to be added. I had always wondered why middle school was so easy but as years went on, I realized that advancing to college there’s a lot more requirements and importance to writing. In middle school, I was young and just starting to really realize what an essay was and after high school I really understood what an essay consists of. No matter how
what can I do to improve my own writing in college? Through high school I was herded, like most students, to write in the basic five paragraph formula and it provided a solid foundation for which to write a essay. But I am in college now I believe that the most important way I can improve my writing is to care more about it, to prod into unconventional sentence structure and to craft better works because I want to do better. In highschool I was more concerned with passing then learning, a mistake I do not intend on repeating. to change how I write fundamentally I must first examine the foundation I use to write, my writing process.
When I first started college I did not know what to expect with an English class. I liked writing about topics that interested me, but high school did not allow me to do that. I took American History and we would have to write
