In “New York Captures Presidential Race” writer Richard Cohen talks about how the presidential candidates are all campaigning in New York City. Cohen says, “New York is back –once again the mudder of presidents, in the local vernacular.” Cohen talks about how New York has always been important for the presidential candidates. Throughout the article Cohen gives us many examples about how New York is important to presidency. According to Cohen, most candidates ran for president in New York or they return to New York after their presidency is over. Living in Manhattan is a struggle, its also prestigious and convenient. Consider that Manhattan has a population of 20 million, from that number about 7 million people commute to Manhattan for work.

The state of New York as a whole is truly an incredibly beautiful state. It started to be inhabited by the British (now Americans) around 1664 and started to gain prominence in the 18th century according to wikipedia.The reason why New York started to gain prominence in the 18th century is because of the vital role in the American Revolution, The Battle of Saratoga was the major turning point in the American Revolution for America. Almost all of the American people’s hope came from the French which was there newly formed allie and struck up a new type of hope for the people of the 13 colonies. The New York Constitution was adopted in 1777 and was brought upon by the US constitution. New York was the United States capital at various times between 1785 through 1790 because it was

New York City’s old slum neighbourhood, the Five Points, was notoriously known for its vice and crimes. The first organized crime group in New York City was the Forty Thieves which was led by Edward Coleman, started in 1825, in the back of a grocery store. The Dead Rabbits were an Irish gang in the Five Points area, and are most known for the riot they caused in 1857. The Eastman Gang were a Jewish group in the Five Points area, which began in the late nineteenth century, and were the rival of the Five Points Gang. The Five Points Gang was another group, started by Paul Kelly and included future famous mobsters. In Five Points, where most of New York City’s crime started, it also started some of history’s most notorious gangs, and mobsters.

New York is a state where there are big lights and lots of people and busy streets. I live in Brooklyn, New York and I was born here and I have lived here all my life. Personally, where I live I can walk to go get groceries that I need and everything is in walking distance. I take the public subway or the bus to get to school and there are many public schools here in Brooklyn, New York. There are delis and corner stores almost around every block. Here in Brooklyn, it is very noisy and busy. I am so used to the noise that I can sleep soundly even with all the noise that surrounds my house. Personally, I think that if I were not born here or was not a New Yorker, I would plan to move here when I get older.

Sixteen thousand two hundred and twenty-four dollars is the average cost to attend Jacksonville State University per year. That comes out to three hundred and twelve dollars per week an athlete is being compensated by the university for the athlete’s contribution to the university. Considering three hundred and twelve dollars per week amounts to take home pay. Therefore, the student athletes would have worked 52 weeks for forty hours per week at a job paying approximately eleven dollars per hour, for most college athletes that is a fair compensation. However, what if the student athlete comes from a family that is unable to provide them with any financial aid help with things as basic as personal hygiene or transportation home on the holidays?

When you think of New York, most people imagine the great sky scrappers, the beautiful lights at night, The New York Yankees, and of course hectic traffic. New York City and its citizens have always demonstrated a toughness and grit that have historically defined the city and those who live. Often times, New Yorkers have been considered the bully, rude, and obnoxious type. Of course there are some unfriendly New Yorkers, but the city and is more than that. Without some of those obnoxious yelling taxi drivers, New York would not be New York. People often imagine the bad or more crazy part of New Yorkers rather than the good. Humans tend to do that in most situations. The frantic way of living in constant motion is what makes New York great.

On November 27, 1971, in Portland, Oregon, a man claiming to be “Dan Cooper” bought a ticket for Northwest-Orient Airlines Flight 305 to Seattle, Washington. Dressed in a sharp dark suit with a pearl tiepin, this forty-five year-old man was about six feet tall with black hair (Abacha and Gilmore 233). No one would suspect him of going down in American history as the only man to ever escape capture after hijacking a U.S. plane (Warchol 1).

New York City consists of five boroughs, Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. The borough that I reside in is Brooklyn. Brooklyn has approximately 2.592 million people inhabiting this district and approximately 23.4 percent of individuals who reside in Brooklyn, NY come from a low-income household or in other words come from poverty. With catholic and private schools being expensive, people have to rely on the education system to provide their children with a good education. In this paper I will be discussing the public school education system ranging solely up to high school in Brooklyn New York and giving a general idea of the New York education system as well.

Bethany for Children and Families offers a variety of programs, but adoption is one of the most beneficial to those in the community in both Iowa and Illinois. Bethany offers infant, special needs, domestic, and international adoption services to families. Other services offered with adoption include; recruitment, screening, licensing, placement, case management, counseling and support services to birth parents placing a child for adoption, and post-adoptive services for adoptees, adoptive parents, and birth parents.

As someone walks over the grates in the sidewalk, they can feel the wind rush up from the subway cars flying through the tunnels. While they continue walking down the street and looking at all the different people that they pass, they can smell the hotdogs being cooked in the food truck. In the distance, they hear a siren weaving through the congested narrow streets of this busy city. New York City is a one of a kind type of place. It is the only place in the world where so many different cultures and backgrounds are all in one place. Along with the multitudes of different types of people and cultures, New York City truly is the city that never sleeps. The city that never sleeps, New York City, is full sights, sounds, tastes, smells, and feels.

I believe it is very important for students to not only learn about the world around them, but also experience other people’s way of life within their communities. And that is exactly what I look forward to achieving at NYU.

Living in America is a fantasy for a lot of people, but living in New York City is something even better, and more magical than any fantasy.

Living in the city presents more job opportunities for the working class, in fact, “There are 626 of the largest businesses and 105 of the largest minority-owned business in Queens, New York” (Baynes 1). With that many large businesses, the employment rate is constantly on the rise. This allows more people to have jobs, which in turn allows more people to achieve goals and dreams that they may have for their families. Achieving these goals in the country would be a lot
