The song “New York, New York” by Frank Sinatra could be used to portray of the overall mood of the first chapter of The Great Gatsby. The song is a perfect representation of the grandeur of New York and the aspiration many have of being there. Once you get past the opening monologue, the very first chapter is used to show Nick’s transition from the Midwest to New York. The narrator of the story, Nick Carraway, mentions how he is going to New York to become a bond man and that all the people he knows are in that business, so it could support him as well.
