Newport Beach, is located on in Orange County, California along the coast. It was incorporated in 1906 and is one of the more affluent cities in Orange County. Encompassing Newport Beach is Corona Del Mar and Newport Coast. Newport Beach is most well known for its harbor, Balboa Island, Lido Island and the peninsula which is located between Newport Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Its elevation is from sea level to 1,164 feet, at the top of Signal Peak in the San Joaquin Hills. The city flower is the Bougainvillea, and the city tree is the Coral Tree. The city has a total area of 51.5 square miles and is bordered by Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa, Irvine, and Laguna Beach. As of the 2010 census, Newport Beach has a population of 85,186. The city is predominantly caucasian with 83.7% of the population categorized as “White”. Less than 1% Black as well as American Indian and Pacific Islander. 7.2% of the population is Hispanic or Latino and 7% Asian. With 17.3% persons under the age of 18, and 19% over 65 years old, and 63.6% in the labor force. Between 2009-2013, Newport Beach has a median household income of $106,333 with 7.9% of people below poverty rate. 42,173 people 16 years and older are employed with most in the management, business and science sectors at 60.7%.
