The NFL Playoffs attract millions of fans each year for each team. 12 franchises make it to the postseason each year, and while everyone wants his or her favorite team will win it all, only one team can. The worst, however, is when fans are sure their team has won, just to have it ripped away from them. With that in mind, here are the top three most devastating losses in NFL playoff history:
3. New England Patriots vs Oakland Raiders, 2002 AFC Divisional Round—the Brady Rule (The Tuck Rule): As if Spygate weren’t enough to mar the Patriots three Lombardi Trophies from the turn of the century, there’s also The Brady Rule. Brady drops back to pass in the late fourth quarter in blizzard conditions with his team down to the Raiders—the makings of a great comeback, right? Not exactly. Charles Woodson came around on Brady’s blindside, sacked Brady, knocked the ball loose, and then watched as his teammates recovered it. The refs reviewed it, decided that Brady needed a little help to win, and called upon an obscure rule in one of the most controversial calls in NFL history, robbing the Raiders of a win. The rule has since been abolished.

New York Giants versus New England Patriots, Super Bowl XLII: And the Patriots make the list once again, this time with a much different outcome. 16-0 in the regular season and 2-0 in the playoffs for a grand record of 18-0 heading into the Super Bowl, the Patriots were eyeing perfection. The Giants on the other hand barely snuck into their Wild Card slot. Easy win, right? It was back and forth the whole game. Then, at the end, with the Patriots up 14-10, the Giants are put into third & long. Eli Manning takes the snap, gets grabbed by a few defensive linemen, breaks free, and hurls the ball downfield, and David Tyree makes the best catch in NFL history. Plaxico Burress’s catch was just icing on the 18-1
The ball was used in the 2014 AFC Championship game between the New England Patriots and the Indanapolis colts. Tom Brady handed the ball off to LeGarrette Blount in the third quarter of the game, and Blount carried it into the endzone.
Fantasy football is becoming one of America’s favorite pastimes, along with actual football. This year over 59 million people in America and Canada will take part in a fantasy football league of some kind. So for those 59 million people, here are some early fantasy football busts that you need to be aware about.
In last month’s NFL draft, the Philadelphia Eagles did the complete opposite of what everybody thought they would do and did not take a running back. Leading up to the draft, many analysts had the Eagles taking LSU’s Derrius Guice in the first round, who ultimately fell to the second round to the Washington Redskins.
The NFL draft is held in Chicago from April 28th to the 30th. Since, the Super Bowl was earlier this year it gives all teams to think about what players they want to pick to be on their team. All teams have had three months to look at many player that they would want on their team to help their team improve. The first team that gets to pick is the team that has the lowest record and then the second team with the lowest record would pick next and so on. If any teams end up with the same record then they look at the strength of schedule and the team with a lower strength of schedule will draft first. With that said, it is important that all teams play hard in games because then coaches will not have to worry about getting a good pick.
Notwithstanding the excitement surrounding the catch, plenty of NFL fans are not impressed with this display. These skeptical fans questioned whether this catch was due
Tom Brady then throws a touchdown pass to Julian Edleman. With the Falcons defense head down, Brady knew it was time for a historic come back. The Patriots did not give up. They kept pushing until the game was over. Fans started leaving the stadium thinking the game was over and that the Falcons won. I bet they regret doing that. With the Patriots down 28-20, and 2 minutes and 28 seconds remaining in regulation, Tom Brady did what he does best, and that scoring touchdowns. He threw another touchdown pass to Julian Edleman. With the patriots trailing 28-26 the Patriots had no choice, but to go for the two point conversion. Tom Brady then throws a screen pass to Danny Amendola to tie the game 28-28. There was no time left on the clock, so they went into overtime. The Patriots won the overtime coin toss. The Patriots put together a 75 yard drive with James White scoring a 2- yard touchdown run. In order to win the Falcons had to score and go for two points, but they were not able to score. The Patriots won the game 34-28. Tom Brady won super bowl MVP and the team won many other awards. No other team has won a super bowl trailing more than 10 points at the
When it comes to sports, a competitive mindset is key. In American football, it’s hard not to win without communication and teamwork. In the NFL playoffs of 2015, the New England Patriots beat the Indianapolis Colts 45-7 for the AFC Championship. In a game that originally portrayed the Patriots as an offensive force to be reckoned with, ended out to be a game that goes down in history. After further investigation, the NFL found 11 of the Patriots' 12 footballs in the game to be underinflated by about 2 pounds below the NFL’s requirement. Now whether the allegations are determined to be true or not, it does raise some speculation about the truth of the AFC
The NFL “catch rule” has been a hotly contested topic of sports debate since an incident involving Calvin Johnson, a highly-respected former wide receiver for the Detroit Lions, in 2010. Similar to Zach Miller’s recent incident, Johnson was originally awarded a touchdown reception, only to have it overturned for unclear and confusing reasons upon review. This play resulted in the first of many changes to the catch rule in recent years, aptly nicknamed the “Calvin Johnson Rule (Rothstein). However, as proven by the necessity of revisiting the rule again in 2015 and 2016, this was ineffective. Furthermore, as proven by scenarios such as Zach Miller’s earlier this season, it is clear that the recent word change has not removed the
The most dramatic football game ever? On September 27, 2017, in Beazer Communities, 10 kids of ages 7-15 started off with a peaceful conversation, which somehow ended with each of them aggressively arguing and tackling each other in a vicious football game. It all started in Hillsborough, New Jersey, specifically the “friendly” neighborhood of Beazer Communities. The sun was out, about 90 degrees, the perfect weather for hanging out with friends, and playing enjoyable sports.
Having slept on this discussion, and then seeing this, I think I should be more direct. And so I will.
Today in class, September 9, 2015, Mr. Eric Jang presented his research on “ NFL and Fan Behaviors”. Mr. Jang research about the NFL and how he connected it to other items and activities that people engage in. It was brilliant. I say this simply because Jang wrote his research to allow anyone, both NFL fans and non-NFL fans can relate and comprehend his research. In Eric Jang’s presentation, there were two main points that truly intrigued. In addition to the two main points, I also have one recommendation for Mr. Jang that he could add to his presentation for the future. Overall, the presentation was informative and engaging.
These rivalries have helped make the game as attractive and as loved as it is today. The Colt/Patriots rivalry had been carried to a higher level of intensity, because it featured the battle between Peyton Manning and Tom Brady —two of the best quarterbacks of all time. In 2012, the rivalry changed significantly, it was no longer just about the quarterbacks and the rivalry seemed to cool down some, but in 2014, the rivalry intensified again when the Patriots were accused of cheating in the AFC championship by purposely playing with under-inflated footballs and beating the Colts 45-7. Due to this scandal (deflategate) and the great hate for one another between the fans, the financial rewards for both teams have been in the
The finals night the Titans were hyped up ready to go they make there way onto the field and they were off pass, step, catch, touchdown, the first half was over titans down 24 points. The second half the Titans defense was too strong and could not be broken and they keep scoring and eventually they caught up and won the game and in one year they concede racism and the
It is the fun of picking your favorite team and the super bowl party watching your team go to the final round. Through all the injuries, all the lost; football is only one thing to the players and fans the best game ever made. The retired NFL player Peyton Manning said after his last season with getting neck surgery, “I fought a good fight and now I finish my football race." "After 18 years, it's time. God bless all of you, and god bless football." Football is a sport you can’t take away, it’s one of America's favorite pass times. It is a sport that can only get safer over time, but for now let the player’s play their beloved
The NFL has become the most popular sport in the United States. It is watched my millions every weekend. The NFL is only growing in popularity. With new fans joining the fun every day. The NFL has faced its share of problems too. With concussions scaring away many future players, the NFL is hoping to lower the possibility of concussions in the future. Each NFL team plays a total of 16 games over a span of 17 weeks. There are two conferences in the NFL, the AFC and the NFC. There are four divisions in each conference, each with 4 teams. The playoff teams are decided by the division rankings. The winner of each division makes the playoffs, with the two best 2nd place teams making it in as a wild card.
