The journey started December 31, 1965 for Nicholas Sparks. He was born in Omaha Nebraska. He was the middle child of three children who moved around a lot, but ended up spending most of their time in northern California. His family moved there when he was eight. Sparks gradated from high school in California in 1984 as Valedictorian. His earlier years were rough. “Because my father was a student until I was nine years old and my mother didn’t work, we weren’t exactly living the high life when I was little, (Sparks).” Sparks was also poor growing up showing he had to work even harder for success. In 2011, Sparks and his wife launched the Nicholas Sparks Foundation, a nonprofit “committed to improving cultural and international understanding through global education experiences for students of all ages. (Sparks)” They had five children together: Miles, Ryan, Landon, and twin daughters Lexie and Savannah.
