Marquita, just as you, I too was intrigued with Nick Hanauer venture capitalist and CEO of Pacific Coast Feather Company. I was held captive with his testimony related to his business and personal affairs. What a wonderful predicament (I can only assume) to be in where you have so much money you can, with great ease and little after thought, give money over to others to invest as they choose and hope it’s being handled in the best possible manner that will further benefit your financial standing. I was particularly struck by his explanation of what it means to be a job creator. According to Mr. Hanauer, many American’s falsely believe the definition of a job creator to mean a person or business that develops or brings new business to a particular
The Crucible was created to described what really happened in these witch trials, and the effects it had on the Colony itself. There was more than 50 men and women accused of witchcraft but less than 20 were hung. The town embraced their trials as a template for their envy of hate.
The Pioneer boys basketball team has strung together three impressive weeks to end January. After a slow start to the new year, winning one and losing two in the first week of January, Alder has won six in a row. Those six wins highlight a win 59 to 47 over the Division-1 Hilliard Darby Panthers on January 19 and 60 to 44 win over their conference and county foe, Fairbanks. Junior guard Andrew Koenig’s scoring has assisted the Pioneers’ success over this long. He put up a career-high 33 points against Fairbanks. When asked about his team’s success over the past few weeks, he said, “ “ The Pioneers finish out January with a grueling, three game week. On Monday the 25th, Alder beat Shekinah Christian with a score of 90 to 77. They followed
On Wednesday August 31st 2016 in North Muskegon Michigan, Brittany Miller and six year old son Granderson went shopping at a local grocery store. As they made their way up and down each individual isle Granderson suddenly began making high pitched screeching sounds. Just as some other autistic individuals, Granderson is more sensitive to sound. Therefore as a coping mechanism, Granderson often will imitate the sound of a fire alarm to help him deal with the overwhelming sounds and noise. Miller explains shortly after her son began to display this behavior it was only a few brief moments afterward, that she turned around to find a note that was placed upon her bag that read: “You need to buy that kid a muzzle!!”. His mother expresses that she
Reportedly, Melanie Thornburg, a South Carolina Sheriff Captain, is in the hot seat after wearing blackface with a Bob Marley Halloween costume. Melanie Thornburg claims that, "I didn't do it out of lack of respect, and I express regret to anyone that took offense. I wouldn't have ever tried to taunt anyone."
Mike’s American is a cozy and welcoming multi-story institution of an eatery, serving delectable American fare. Appetizer options, such as the hot spinach and artichoke dip with parmesan and jack cheeses and the crunchy, spicy firecracker shrimp, are fun to share and make for great starters. Popular entrée items include the beer-marinated drunken ribeye with redskin potatoes, the roast half chicken in a brown butter sauce and the hickory-grilled fish of the day. Mike’s American also has a tantalizing array of burgers, including the vegetarian-friendly veggie patty made with quinoa, rice, black beans and beets and the classic bacon cheeseburger topped with homemade, spicy “wicked sauce”. And it doesn’t get more American than with the deep dish
Okay, now what were we talking about...oh yes, the back wound. Two FBI Agents, Sibert and O’Neill, observed Kennedy’s autopsy and wrote a report on it. In it, they described the wound as having entered at a downward angle...but went in only slightly [?] – also, that there was no exit. Well, the “no exit” is written in there because, as repeated, the autopsists didn’t know the trach incision in the front JFK’s throat obscured a bullet wound; the supposed exit site. But what about Sibert and O’Neill saying how the bullet went in only slightly???
Dave Pelzer has endured so much in his past. The years of abuse that seemed like a never ending maze of torture, were like a routine of beatings to him. The wicked games that his mother played on him and the bizarre ways of practicing them, felt like an eternity for a 12 year old boy. Nevertheless, for every darkest storm there is a shining ray. The ray of hope that has fueled Pelzer's motivation to strive for the best, for his freedom, and for a brighter future. Pelzer's journey to finding the power to continue begins by acceptance; accepting the fact that he is an abuse victim. Once the acceptance has been initialized, the healing process begins to take place.
When you see yourself living out your dream, the thought of what you're most passionate about pulls you in. Passions in one's life change based on what had affected that person. Dreams are defined to change. However, the benefits of these thoughts is that they belong to you and only you. Not one person's opinions matter but your own. Chris McCandless simply was living out his own ideal life, the way he wanted; not to the idea of his parents, his friends or of society. McCandless wanted to escape society and civilization which he felt was tying him down, while also trying to discover himself. McCandless is not by any means a wacko. He was simply defying society and its ideal expectation it holds upon us as a whole.
SNC briefed all required sections of the five paragraph order; however, throughout his brief SNC seemed hesitant and paused a few times. SNC spoke in a steady voice and his brief was thorough; however, his brief was long, unhurried and it seemed that SNC could not communicate his ideas clearly to his team, causing his brief to take up majority of his mission. SNC did not communicate a well detailed plan on how they were going to accomplish the mission; rather he just restated that they needed to get across the broken bridge and in the order they were going to go in. Due to his initial slow tempo, SNC and his team did not move with a sense of urgency during the execution their mission. Just like he briefed his order, SNC kept a steady but
For Victor, growing up on a reservation was not easy. Multiple times he experienced discrimination, on and off the reservation. His second grade teacher decided to punish him instead of rewarding him for his phenomenal grade on a spelling test. He was also subjected to discrimination when a teacher assumed he passed out due to drunkenness because of his skin color, Victor says to this, “Sharing dark skin doesn’t necessarily make two people brothers.” (Alexie, 1993, p. 5) Discrimination was not the only issue Victor experienced, hunger was another problem. While he and his family barley had any food, girls in the bathroom stalls were throwing up their lunch. People take advantage of the luxuries they possess when there are people who barley
The Roaring Twenties, as they were known, were a time of scandal and mayhem in America. From the hilariously obeyed Prohibition to the new roles of women, the twenties were the personification of a rebellious teenager. It comes to no surprise then that one of the most infamous authors of the twenties, F. Scott Fitzgerald, wrote mainly one that rebelliousness. In his short story, The Jelly-bean, Fitzgerald describes the life of one of those very teenagers.
While Noke was well on his way to creating a better life, Evie was feeling stagnant in hers, with no earning power and (so far) no child support payments from Ted, she was making ends meet with her mother’s salary, in a harsh country, where people disparaged her. To Evie, this was a completely unacceptable situation, accordingly, she privately began to ponder a plan to strive for
Ezer hounded Navie about how his magic made him reckless and stupid, about how simple bandits had made him fell from the horse, how that same horse flew away from him... The list went on and on, be it full of real flaws or just nitpicking, Ezer used his own experience living and fighting lacking everything as a blanket support for any argument he made. If Navie behaved like this was because he didn't have to kill someone with his bare hands, if Navie behaved like that was because he hadn't been starving on a trench for days... and so on, and on, and on. Anything and everything was suitable to not recognize how useful his domain over magic was.
“When only men have influence over who they are living with, the core of any community is a dense network of closely related men with the spouses on the periphery,” said Mark Dyble, an anthropologist who led the study at University College London. “If men and women decide, you don’t get groups of four or five brothers living together.”
Walking around in the relative darkness of the Abyss somewhat stimulated her memory. Only in minuscule bits, but it was enough to remember her first name, which was Juno. Shame she didn’t remember her last name. It would have been nice to know whose family she hailed from…
