Nicki Minaj is widely regarded as one of the greatest female rappers of all time. While I myself am not the biggest fan, it’s hard to deny the influence and success she has seen over her career. Though she has one of the most loyal fan bases in music, many fans in hip-hop feel as though she has underachieved in terms of albums released. Nicki managed to become a household name without having a career defining project. “Pink Friday”, “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded”, and “The Pinkprint” aren’t making anyone all-time list. She widely considers herself one of the greats regardless of gender, but she lacks a “Take Care”, “Good Kid Maad City”, or even an “Acid Rap” type of project. While fans have ate up her music without question over the years, for …show more content…
In 2017 however, we managed to see the rise of other women acts like Cardi B and Rapsody. While Rapsody is currently the best right now in my opinion, it’s hard to look at a rapper like Cardi as you can draw so many comparisons between her and Nicki. Many insiders believe for it to be some sort of tension between the two, though they repeatedly deny it. You can look at social media, and a few verses the two have done and say that they are subliminally taking shots at one another. The two didn’t even appear in one scene together on the set of “Motorsport” due to what they said was “scheduling conflicts”.Nicki Minaj is widely regarded as one of the greatest female rappers of all time. Washington University. Columbia. University of Pennsylvania. Harvard. Brown. Yale. It’s no surprise that these top-ranking, prestigious schools also rank among the nation’s most stressful universities. Stories surrounding these schools spread like wildfire, reporting of students committing suicide, or dropping out of school due to the overwhelming expectations set for them. This is the life of one particular Columbia University student, Nayla Kidd, who decided to escape a life of stress. This past April and May, completely cutting herself off from outside contact, Kidd staged a “disappearance” in order to isolate herself from school and pursue a nontraditional lifestyle. Overnight, she became an example for students everywhere, inspiring them to life the lives they want instead of conforming to what society wants them to be. Though difficult to see amongst

2. Rose argues that women “are not major players in the use of sampling technology nor have they made a significant impact in rap production.” List some reasons why Rose makes this claim. Does Rose provide evidence that counters or complicates her argument? In other words, how have women been, despite being clearly marginalized, essential to the development and production of hip-hop.

Women have decided to consume hip hop regardless of the sexism and machismo of their rap artist spouses. Historically, black women who have sex with other women haven’t been recognized in the Black community. Also, the expectations are the same in hip hop culture because men reject lesbians. An example is the murder in 2003 of Sakia Gunn after she declared her lesbian identity to a group of males. We all know that in hip hop culture men predominate and precisely masculine. Women can achieve a higher professional success than men regarding no matter their sexual orientation. In other hand, women represent different controlling images like the whore, the mammy and temptress. Homophobia in hip hop is translated into forms of oppression, discrimination and violence for gays, lesbians and transgender. “Black women rappers interpret and articulate the fears, pleasures, and promises of young black women whose voices have been relegated to the margins of public discourse.” Their voices are in constant dialogue with the public and men rappers about sexual promiscuity, emotional commitment, infidelity, the drug trade, racial politics and black cultural history. If we pay close attention to female rappers, we will notice that they address questions of sexual power, economic opportunities and the pain of racism and sexism. Women rappers has been promoted as sexually progressive, antisexist voices because of “an understanding of male rappers as uniformly sexist.” Discussions of women
In our society influence, is the power a person (or group) holds over a general population. Positive influence uses the power held over the population for an overall good, whether this be by helping others, being inspiring and well spoken. Positive influence is demonstrated by powerful people ,up to whom the population looks and aspires to be like. They display the traits above by creating and donating to charities, participating in social movements and challenging not only themselves but others to be better people . These traits influence society positively because when the general public see these idols and celebrities doing these things they are more likely to mimic them, and in turn will grow to become model citizens in the same
Hip-hop feminists are using feminism to draw a critique from the social, political, economic structures that shape their lives and give rise to the mainstream violent misogynist music. In the DVD we watched in class, Say My Name, they are aware that being a woman in hip-hop culture that they are at an extreme disadvantage when it comes to be respected at lyrists. Women in hip-hop are seen as sexual objects and it is rare when you see a rapper talking about respecting a woman in his music. These women believe that hip-hop is a tool for social change and these hip-hop feminists can spread their message of critical analysis and empowerment through their lyrics. They want to stay true to themselves by not rapping about what the media wants to hear or what sells, but rather an intersection of class, race, and gender that has a special meaning to them. Another example of hip hop feminism in the film is when the females that were
Not only was she doing all of this at the young age of 17, but Alicia also managed to graduate out of her high school a year early, and as the schools prized valedictorian. In late 1999, Alicia followed the renowned Clive Davis to his new company J Records, where she continued to show signs of success. Now, at the age of 20 in the year 2001, releasing her Debut CD “Songs in A Minor,” Alicia Keys is still rising. Her CD has already gone triple platinum, (the first number 1 album for her new label). She has also won the 2001 Best New Artist MTV video music award. Her music is incredible, with well-written and very wise lyrics. Her sound is very unique and different from many of the artists out there right now.
Rap music in general has failed miserably in portraying the true worth of a woman. Women have a character that men cannot replace in any other way. “Behind every great man, there is a great woman,” and I strongly believe this because it is very applicable in my life as well. I can say that my mother plays an important role in my life, and she stood behind my success till now. Being an international student in this country takes a lot of courage, but the support and encouragement from my mother has helped me every step of the way. She is able to do things that a man cannot do; to be the nurturing, caring, patient, loving, and protective woman she can be to her children and her family.
